Interesting that Snapvillage is so low ... below Crestock, Albumo, Moodboard ...

Even below Microstockgroup   :)

But, has the D3 been released yet?  That's the Nikon, right?

No ... and yes ... but I'm still looking longingly at it.

And I can't see any way you'd get one on E-bay other than at wildly inflated prices in the first few months.

well there is always ebay.

Yeah ... but can you get new stuff on e-bay? I'm looking longingly at the Nikon D3 ...

Okay, thanks. I looked at B&H, but quite a bit of the stuff I looked at (Nikon camera bodies in particular) they won't ship to Europe. Don't know why.

Are there any outlets in Europe that accept PayPal?

Don't hold your breath hoping.

The US-based companies are very unlikely to change anything.

I don't know about the companies outside the States. They must be losing out in terms of income at the moment. But whether they will raise their prices is questionable.

Although I chose the first option, I don't actually collect earnings "as soon as...". I wait a bit until I have money from other sites to collect ...

Same here. I chose the first option, because it was about the closest to the way I do it. But none of the options really fit my pattern. Sometimes I take out as soon as it reaches the limit. Other times (like now) I will take out from several agencies all at the same time, then let the earnings build up side by side in each of them to see how they compare.

With the US dollar so low I'm reluctant to transfer my PayPal money to Europe right now, so the amount is building  :)

Does anyone know of an on-line store that sells photographic equipment (camera bodies and lenses in particular) for US dollars, will export to Europe and accepts payment by PayPal?

Might as well take advantage of the low dollar if I can.

Ooops ... I hope I haven't started a trend.

I was joking.

When I was living in a certain less-developed country, at election time there was a saying did the rounds ... "Vote early and vote often."

I guess he thinks he's the next Henri Cartier-Bresson .... David Bailey ... Ansel Adams ... Edward Weston ... all rolled into one ...

... and the reviewer at SS hasn't the wit to see it.

maybe this is just a `hit and run`posting.

I think it is.

I notice that Rolfimages has only just joined and this is the only posting he's made.

Sounds like he's got a massive grudge and he's trying to drum up support.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock - slow sales
« on: October 26, 2007, 12:24 »

How does that work. If the photo is rejected, how can they still want to control the use.

Read the small print of their Agreement for exclusives ...

Full artist exclusivity means no images may be sold on other Royalty-Free sites or businesses with the exception of Getty Images. Individual image exclusivity is not enough.

Doesn't seem right.

It isn't ... in my opinion.

It's one thing to demand exclusivity for individual images. That's perfectly legitimate. But to say you can't sell anything, even the ones we don't want, with another agency, is much too restrictive.

As far as I am aware, iStock is the only microstock agency that has such a condition.

To those of you who have experienced the angry reviewer and have received multiple unjust rejections ...

Can you give an example of what the 'Angry Reviewer' writes, with an example of the unjustly rejected image? Is he/she being abusive or defamatory?

Others can't really make any judgment on this until we see what it's all about. What you consider to be an 'unjust rejection' may be fully justified in the eyes of Shutterstock. They are the ones running the business.

They have no duty to you to sell your photos so they are fully justified in rejecting anything they don't want, for any reason.

However, if they're being rude or abusive about it ... that's another matter.

Off Topic / Scoopt
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:40 »
Anyone here submitted photographs to Scoopt ...

http://www.scoopt.com

Know anything about it? Obviously it's just for newsworthy, editorial stuff, and sometimes I've caught moments like that.

They demand 12 months exclusivity ...

When you send Scoopt a photo, you automatically grant us an exclusive worldwide licence to market that photo for a period of twelve months. During this twelve-month period, you agree not to publish the photo anywhere else.

However, if we do not believe that we can market your photo(s), we will tell you quickly and you will not be subject to an exclusive licence.

When the twelve months are up, the licence becomes non-exclusive. We will still try to sell your photo but now you can also publish it yourself on a blog or a picture-sharing site -- or anywhere else at all.

And they offer 40%.

Any opinions ... experience? Anyone know what sort of sums newsworthy photos go for? I know that's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string, but any ballpark figures?

Hmmmm ...

-  Seems to be one guy's images (I can't find any by anyone else)

-  Can't find any clear information for potential contributors, though there is a sign-up form

-  Keywording looks rather poor. But if it's a sole effort he can do what he wants I suppose.

Good luck to him.

But mine aren't. :(

There's definitely a bug lurking. My image:

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup.php?id=2128298

now shows (on its page) that it's in the healthy foods lightbox. But when I look at the lightbox it's nowhere to be seen.

It seem some people are using auto white balance. I never did that,or at least I never trusted that...I am going to try it

If it's clear what the light source is, e.g. bright sunlight out of doors, I set it manually. But if there's a doubt, e.g. mixed lighting with sun coming in through a window but interior lights on too, I use auto.

Also, I always try to remember to switch back to auto when I've finished. I've shot too many images outdoors with the tungsten light setting.  :-\  or vice versa

An important question is if you need an optical viewfinder or not.

If you don't have an optical viewfinder you're going to have problems in bright light. Some of those screens can be pretty difficult to see in full sunlight.
