No news is good news - so they say!  ;)

The one GOOD thing I can think of about Snapvillage is that because they are so incompetent, any money they spend on advertising will drive more and more customers to the OTHER stock agencies......

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

The files themselves don't 'stay' in the queue, the approved ones are put online and can be managed via the Art Manager.   A thumbnail and a record of the submission stays in the Submissions Manager, if that's what you mean- otherwise there'd be no record of what you've submitted.

I can confirm the web form has a problem due to an unforeseen conflict with another script on the page, I am working on it.   If it doesn't say 'Thank you, file received' and list the files after the progress meter runs, then the upload did not complete, and we will have not received your files.

FTP queue will be brought up to speed today.

Thanks for sorting my uploads for me. The photos are all on site and some have been reviewed already. The graphics are still queued, but I know you are behind and will catch up soon.
I have got the hang of things now, and will carry on uploading.
Everybody should know how you go out of your way to help your contributors!

I just searched my name on the site, and found three pictures lifted from Lucky Oliver. I am a member there, so I posted comments pointing out the error of their ways. Not that it will do much good.
They are just kids messing around, but they should know that they cannot steal just to have fun.

Off Topic / Are you addicted?
« on: March 10, 2008, 15:48 »
You know you're addicted to photoshop when..

You see the world with one eye and stock images with the other.

When asked what the primary colors are, answer "RGB"

You get the urge to 'fix' poor quality images.

You start teaching your significant other to use this "evil" program and in the space of one afternoon convince them it's at least only quasi-evil in the face of PSP.

You ramble about a breakthrough in the piece you're doing to people who have no idea in hell what you're talking about

You ponder the meaning of existence without layers.

You never leave the house without a digicam and notepad.

You drop something and your brain tells you automatically "Ctrl-Z! Ctrl-Z!". When you realize it won't work, your brain tells you "Ctrl-Alt-Z! Ctrl-Alt-Z!"

You're getting dressed for something important and you look in the mirror and realize you would look so much better if you could just tweak the levels a little and apply a slight gaussian blur.

You stop on the street to rant about cheesey effects that should not be on professional posters.

You scream out fonts as they appear on TV.

You have dreams in "glowing edges"

You're standing by the ocean and wondering who used Ocean Ripple.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends who are addicted to Photoshop.

Her work is so witty and clever. She really observes people and their habits.

Aww, you broke it!
I am not sure I would use the whole tutorial, but I often find that parts of your tutorials are useful in themselves. I would like to watch it anyway.  :)

Edit, I just thought of a great use for it. Yes please!

We have added the following folders to each members private FTP folder:

/PHOTOS
/GRAPHICS
/FONTS
/VIDEOS

So, in the future, please upload the different media types into their appropriate folder.

(Now I need to get some coffee going and sort out the current mess :) )

I will make sure to use them in future. Yesterday I uploaded about a third of my portfolio. I will wait to do any more until you have put them onto the site, then I will sort them before upload.

Thanks for being so responsive in this, its great to have a site that listens.  ;D

Go to 'Upload images' in the left hand column. Agree to the conditions, and it takes you to a page that explains their FTP.
Hope that helps!

Its great that you are prepared to respond so openly in the forum. Thanks a lot for your help. The four folders idea sounds like it would work.
Horsetail extract. I never heard of that. As a gardener I spend lots of time trying to eradicate horsetail, its a terrible weed! Thanks for the tip, I will get my husband to look for some when he is shopping this afternoon. ;)

Hi, sorry to keep on about this in a public forum, but it affects a lot of people who may find it useful.
I have uploaded three small batches.
One contains a photo and an illustration.
One is two photos.
One is two illustrations.
All uploaded seperately by FTP.
Now, when you do your thing and put them on the site they should be moved into my submissions queue, like all my other uploads were.
What do I do next? How do I put them into the correct queue? I cannot find any instrutions on the site.
I would appreciate a quick reply because I could spend the weekend uploading. (I have twisted my ankle, and I cannot get around for a few days. I am stuck at the compuer instead of taking pictures  :'(

Why can't they exclude the largest sizes from the subscriptions? It would make a lot of people happier.

OK, so do we have to separate our files into graphics and photos when uploading by FTP? The files go straight into my submissions queue, how do I put them into the correct queue?
I upload to 12 sites with no problems, and have been uploading for three years, this must be the most trying!

Clivia> 5 images of yours have been accepted. we have no more in our queue from you.

ZymmMan,
In that case there is something wrong. When I log in I can see 14 images all with the little clock symbol for images pending, and showing the upload date as 24th December. The 5 approved images were uploaded much earlier.
I have asked repeatedly both by email and on this site, and been assured that my images were in the queue and would be dealt with. In one email I offered to re upload, and was assured this was not necessary. Obviously something is not working properly with your site.

It is that long since I uploaded there I cannot remember the process. I have submissions from 24th December still waiting to be approved, so don't hold your breath after you figure it out.
My plan was to see what they like, then to upload suitable pictures from my port. With over 1000 pictures to upload, and a wait of over two months for approval, I think I will be giving them a miss in the future.

418
Its not the artifacts that concern me as much as the large number of images that are just not in focus, or lack any attempt at composition. The top rated images are nearly all 'pretty' thumbnails, but not a lot of use to a designer.

Mostphotos.com / Re: really starting to hate your "ratings" system
« on: February 29, 2008, 13:32 »
The rating system has a basic flaw. The greatest picture in stock can be uploaded at a time when lots of people are uploading at once. It is pushed very quickly five or six pages back in the lastest uploads search, and so gets no ratings. It will appear to someone in the unrated pictures search, get a single rating, and disappear from view.
In the meantime, an average picture that was uploaded when no-one else was uploading, stays on the lastest images first page for ages, and gets loads of ratings. It rises in the searches, and  stays near the top.
The pictures that rose to the top early on in the life of the site, appear in the Toprated search, and continue to get more and more ratings, keeping out some very good pictures. and making the site appear almost static.
I asked in their forum for another search option to appear under the menu, but it has not happened yet. Maybe soon?
We are continually told that the ratings are only a small part of the criteria taken into account in the buyer search. When the site reaches a million pictures or more, a tiny shift can have a drastic effect in placement, and so become very important. When a site reaches a million or more pictures, a shift of only 0.25% can mean being pages back in the search results, and an image never selling.

I had an idiot doing the same to me. I commented that one of his pictures was out of focus, and he took real offense. (It was very out of focus!) He worked his way through my portfolio giving everything 1's and 2's. You can go to his profile page, and under 'Options' you can select to block him from rating you images.

Very nice.
However, if like me, the other photographers cannot get their images reviewed, its not a lot of use. I have been waiting since 24th December, and despite emailing support, nothing happens. We cannot make money or appear in search engines unless you actually put our pictures on the site.
I think maybe you only review the big name photogs.

Featurepics.com / Re: The sweet thing about Featurepics...
« on: February 08, 2008, 03:17 »
Featurepics is a site that I always hope will thrive, but seems to be stagnating. The occasional sale keeps me vaguely interested, but they do not get priority when I am uploading. I got a payout in May 07, and think I will get another one this year!
