Product prices at Zazzle are just ridicules, maybe if some companies find something interesting for their promo material, but for individual purchases I don't see anyone buying anything, you can get those things for a fraction of price at local print shops.
Agree I only really only get the odd postcard sale with 4-5c commission . Odd mug or two and some jewellery once. But I wouldn't pay their prices!
You're looking at it upside down, anybody can buy cheap, but where can you buy something unique that only you can supply. Put your prices up, I sold two postcards this week and got 44 pence for the pair.

This is basically Microsofts way of replacing Clipart, but at arms length knowing what the pitfalls are going to be. I keep reading the words Legally Cleared and always with a capital C, whatever that means, cut and paste error? Looking at the terms it seems they are going to be passing the buck to the source of the image, no business looking at the T&Cs are going to touch this with a barge pole. If anyone is with any of those agencies they need answers as to what the renumeration is or pull their images, fortunately none of mine in those. I wonder if they have a slush fund to keep infringed copyright holders quiet, otherwise you would think the whole thing would fall apart fairly rapidly.

From their website
"Pickit aggregates images from multiple stock providers and our own Pickit Community photographers. Then we put them all in one place. At your fingertips."
Be careful with who your agencies partner with, you might just get 60% of nothing.

$5 per month is not going to buy indemnity for an unknown number of free images, so that's not what it's about.

You can't just take photos from the public domain and make money out of them.
You can. You just have to add value and make it your own.
It may have been the case at Shutterstock in the past, but not any more. Cut and pasted from the above Pursuant to Paragraph 14(d) of Shutterstock's Submitter Terms & Conditions, when you became a Shutterstock submitter you warranted and represented that: "the Content and all parts thereof are owned and/or controlled by you, unencumbered and original works and are capable of copyright protection in all countries where copyright or similar protection is available.

Read the thread properly and you will see it is not feasable, no quality control, no indemnity and no security, no offence, but why would I trust you?
Limewire worked because the data was on dozens or hundreds of computers and because internet speeds were grindingly slow you lose one node the others took over. You could never guarentee that a bookmarked image would be available on demand with your peer to peer system.

We will end up being chained to the block and the 1% will make the money, it's always thus.

Wasn't there a discussion on Shutterstock's forum yesterday, about the great big security gap in their deal with Facebook?
I guess they don't want it discussed publicly. Might affect stock prices, or something.
Not for the first time, http://www.microstockgroup.com/shutterstock-com/download-any-shutterstock-images-for-free!/ This is the email they sent me 23/10/2017 Hi Colin, Thanks for your email. We are aware of the other means provided by xDownder including the Chrome extension, Facebook loophole, etc. Please know that we have been diligently working on this; however, we cannot provide specific details about our enforcement efforts. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to fight against anti-piracy. Best Regards, Carl Shutterstock Compliance It appears someone else has got around Shutterstock/facebook security during the last week in November, judging by the comments on the site it stopped working, but has been updated December 2, 2017.

What has Thanksgiving to do with this? It is a US and Canadian celebration, how can that affect EU buyers and contributors. There is a big world out there.
I have no Thanksgiving images and my sales are just a bit down from last month but we still have a few days. Also, I have 68.66% US sales (in commission). For a better comparison, we should have access to the number of downloads too for those US sales not just the credits (without counting them one by one).
Like you said, the US market makes up nearly 70% of your sales. On some days, the US market makes up over 90% of my sales. If the biggest market is on holiday, it would only make sense if the sales are down from the previous month.
A lot "US sales" here, too (whatever that means) Here is the trend of my US earning percentage for the past few years:
You would be pissed if you were paying 30% withholding tax.
I am pissed - no way that my 90% of sales are from us - something is wrong - and they take 30% of 90% of my sales - before AS I had 10% us sales - what happened with no us sales - something is deeply wrong here!!!!..... and unlike other agencies, they don t send tax forms
Looks like you are on your own with this one, which is a surprise maybe the wrong thread, try reaching out to Matt and hit on him at [email protected]

I'm not a believer in the cap theory, but an apparently successful algorithm could lead to the top earners getting most of the sales with little for the vast majority. No doubt things are scewed that way, but agencies need a diverse library to succeed and contributors need encouragement to keep uploading, so the algorithm is likely to be tweaked for the overall welfare of the agency and contributor, but for the life of me I can't see some kind of rotation being like the flip of a switch enabling contributors to catch up at the end of the month.
I have no doubt that searches are made to optimize the bottom line (and only bottom line), which may lead to some images being prioritized more than other, but it would be extremely unwise to shut entire portfolios off completely to play up diversity or anything else. If diversity is necessary at some point to increase sales, so be it, but I don't think diversity is a goal within itself. If tomorrow customers say that they only want cats in hats, that's the only thing you will see on shelves. And I don't see them promoting anything that is completely useless and nobody ever buys for the sake of diversity. And I am sure, there is plenty of useless content, I started with it, I should know.
Bottom line is everything, but it is not always a straight road. As for diversity several of the Premium closed shops have had problems with it and had to open it up to more members. If on an open platform, an agency can do that (encourage contributors who provide that diverdity to upload more) using an algorithm to achieve that as a secondary goal why not, lots of gains for them. Not all buyers are equal and not all contributors are equal, but you do not increase your bottom line by ingnoring any of them and that is all written into the algorithm.

No need to be sarcastic, we are just talking peacefully. Don't like it, leave it but don't be in a hurry to leave just yet. Let's pretend that you and I, we are not promoted equally because of our overall rank and the customer will buy my image because your portfolio is on hold. I am not saying this is the case with AS but I am sure this is not the first time you hear this. It is called ........ roulette (of some kind), not abuse.
I am talking peacefully, sorry if it came across standoffish, but this whole cap theory has got to be put to rest. I don't hear it the first time, but I hear lotsa things. Don't take it the wrong way, but there is just no reasonable motivation for an agency to hide its content from customers when exactly the same content is offered by another one. None. The same way you or I don't start thinking of pulling portfolios from an agency when sales with them go up. We increase supply if there is more demand, not the other way around, that's not how you stay in business.
It's christmas time, they are promoting christmas, or do you think they are going to shut down people who sell christmas because they aren't ranked enough? They must have run out of quotas by now, so crazy it gets. Besides, people with higher ranks get a larger cut, so it's not in an agency's interest to promote them.

US holiday or not, I was asking where are the sale from the rest of the world? Or why are they missing? SS is an US company too and I have sales from all over the world but hardly ever from North America.
Speculation, but it could be an accounting change rather than a change in the demographics of sales. For example sales through Adobe products maybe reported as US sales and not where the buyer is from, if Adobe products are considered a partner for accounting purposes.

... your favorite President (me).
I saw "that" this morning! Unbelievable! Although we keep on saying that nothing should surprise us anymore, I keep on getting surprised, unfortunately!
It's the truth, he is yours and he is President, which he would not be if he hadn't been favoured by many of you.

It just goes to show how low journalism has sunk that it now gets it's news and photos from twitter.
You can also say that it also shows how low the presidency institution has sunk, using twitter for trivial fights with common people, propagate fake news and more... The fish rots from the head.
That's the story the article should have been about.

Sean and others, can you help me understand why a social media presence is sort of a requirement? I don't get it. The definition of stock imagery is images that are bought to serve a specific purpose. Why does it matter whether or not the creator has a footprint in social media? Thanks.
It's a cooperative effort, everybody contributes to the promotion of the company, more social media presence, more hashtags more links, more visability, better search positions more sales.

November, in my memory, should at least be an average month.
This November is indeed very slow in video sales for me. Any reason behind it?
Thanksgiving in the US, long weekend.
Is it unusual to have Thanksgiving in November?

No one cares anymore what happens or where this is going because it's so disappointing. Am i right???
What took you so long to figure this out. We might care about ourselves, but the future of stock art is going to be more disappointing forever. There are no rapidly expanding markets like there were in 2007. Now the business is contracting, declining and becoming unprofitable for most of us. That's not doom and gloom, that's facing the facts.
Change and adjust or find something else, don't think that what worked before will work now, that goes for you and Derek and the rest who are stuck in the old days instead of looking for new opportunity in the future, that means change and adjusting.
Looks like you too are stuck in the old days... the business is expanding hugely, the demand for images is expanding at a rapid pace and will continue to do so in the future.
Really? You know this how?s
I know this because it is common sense, if you have an understanding of the industry.
For example the SS annual report states their paid downloads increased 14%. I am presuming this is fairly standard industry wide.
I am clear the usage of visual content will only increase. Also the market will be further saturated with content thereby reducing the overall sustainability and profitability to the individual contributor.
The winner here is the "agency" and the loser is the "contributor". Sales are expanding for the agency and sales at the same time are contracting for the supplier.
You might want to look at the last two SS quarterly reports, the first said downloads had declined for the first time the latter was a small increase, all in all stagnant. On the other hand it looks like there is increasing demand for premium content.

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing. Theodore Roosevelt On an important decision one rarely has 100% of the information needed for a good decision no matter how much one spends or how long one waits. And, if one waits too long, he has a different problem and has to start all over. This is the terrible dilemma of the hesitant decision maker. Robert K. Greenleaf You can't make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen. Michelle Obama The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision.
