General Stock Discussion / Re: Stupid Question?
« on: January 03, 2021, 09:44 »
To me that is a difference.

It is to me as well! Just making the point that $14 on its own wasn't much to go on... $400 on SS and $14 on BS definitely makes it not worth it. $4 on SS and $14 on BS definitely makes it worth it (if the OP is making a lot more on SS) etc etc.

Dont bother with BigStock. Its not worth it. I had sales for 14 $ altogether for a period of more than two years now and I stopped uploading to them.

What do you make on SS though? If it's also $14 over two years, and the OP is making $1,400, or $14,000... then it might be worth it.

Looks like the review queue is moving again... just extremely slowly.

404
Are you replying to the wrong person... or are you just putting Pete on the stand to answer for the crimes of all Americans?

405
...there is no money or power with leftie comany just misery and wishful thinking and that do not generate money not even an income.

Have you just completely made that up?! Or do you have any data to suggest that that 'leftie companies' have no power, no money, do not generate money... not even an income? You're aware that your very first example of a 'leftie CEO' was Oringer... the 'leftie CEO' who has a net worth of over $1bn, right?!

Please tell me you're not mistaking a company with a left-leaning CEO to be the same as some kind of communist or socialist organization?!

But don't the majority of other companies not have the ability to request a payout... they send them to you automatically when you reach a certain amount?

407
Graphic River. Pain in the nuts uploading though.

Yeah I uploaded something on the 8th of December. Was 300 and something in the queue, came down to 200 and something within a few days, and it's been stuck there ever since. Seems like they're not reviewing at the moment for whatever reason.

When were they approved?

410
Believe it or not but people like Oringer, Zuckerburg etc etc are lefties and now with a new leftie President???  lefties have always become rich on other peoples work or money! so Jim how do you propose to get somebody like Oringer to do this?

There's so much wrong with this paragraph that I don't know where to start. But for now... I was always under the impression that 'righties' weren't a big fan of 'handouts', so I'm guessing you wouldn't be interested in this anyway?

411
If Jon Oringer of Shutterstock, donated his annual salary of $4,598,580 to image creators who produce the products Shutterstock licenses, and divided it among creators based on the number of images licensed, how would that benefit image creators?

Waiting for the 4th Q report, but I have to ask, that would mean we'd get 12 cents a download minimum, instead of 10c a download. Well that's exciting::)

As for Jon donating his pay to us?

Didn't he used to take $1 a year as pay? When did that change?

He got $1 a year, but stocks equivalent to $4,598,580 every year as well, as a perk. Not sure how or if that's changed since he's no longer CEO.

While you may not need a lawyer to tell you that bait and switch tactics are illegal, you probably would need one to define exactly what is and what isn't classed as bait and switch... as I'd be very surprised if this qualifies.

Or are you saying that if a company advertises a price, rate, fee or commission for a product or service... then that have to honour that for the rest of time?

If they'd said the minimum you'll ever earn in perpetuity is $0.33 per download, then you might have a case, but they're well within their rights to alter their commission structure. Don't need a legal team for that. While empowerment is always desirable, the only real power we have is to choose to accept their terms or leave. Or stay but stop uploading new stuff.

The "Contributor's Union" would have their own website whereby they submit
exclusively to that site. They manage and adjust operations based on a collective vote.
Maintaining and controlling the site would be derived from "union dues". If say,
you sell an image for $2.00us, $1.00us goes toward union website operations.
Someone would have to be hired to manage the website. Someone with strong
union background skills. Insuring that "scabs" aren't submitting to other sites would
be a major issue. That, and gaining the initial confidence of contributors that more
money can be made by joining the union.

50% cut to the union?! Surely their first job would then be to increase royalties by more than 100% to offset the cost and make it worthwhile... which would never happen!

Mavic 2 Pro has a much larger sensor, so you'll get better quality images, less noise and it'll be better in low light.

I thought American companies apart from Face book, Twitter and Youtube didn't practise censorship!!

You must be new to our world. Welcome, we hope you enjoy your stay.

Their own forum is full of posts from people, reporting earnings.

While the first rule of Fight Club may be that you don't talk about Fight Club... I'm assuming you can talk about Fight Club when you're at Fight Club.

Learning After Effects is good advice. Not sure if you do this already, but animating your illustrations could be pretty lucrative. Icons and the like, business style graphics like animated trendlines, infographics etc. Stick together some packs... icon packs, infographic packs, HUD packs, animated social media icons, like/comment/subscribe animations etc etc.

I only upload my non-space stuff for the same reason. While I like the ease of use and the sharing revenue and collaboration features, there's not enough benefits for me personally to offset the negatives.

421
from these 400 usd this clip made 289 usd in November 2020, I think is curious

Was that from several sales or just a few and one big one? My guess would be that they initially bought an extended license and then decided they needed full rights. I could be wrong, hard to say.

In addition who really wants their work on Shutterstock?

People who want a 40% royalty rate? Could be 36% but they had a deal with SS so you actually make a tiny bit more, even with the 15% fee. That may have changed since June, but might not have... hard to tell.

423
You could get a lawyer, but there's virtually no point in doing so when it comes down to reality... take the money.

They don't require exclusive content. I mean they kind of do in that you can't submit content to them that is already on Shutterstock, Pond5, Adobe or Vimeo... and once you've submitted it then can't submit it to those sites in the future... but thats not so much an exclusivity clause. It's just like saying you can't upload the same image to Shutterstock twice... which makes sense.

You're welcome to upload the content to sites that BB don't work with though... iStock, Alamy, 123RF, Storyblocks, Dreamstime, Envato etc etc.

pond5 or distribution via blackboxglobal

He already said Pond5. I'd go for Adobe. And while BlackBox would definitely come in the top three, it kind of wins by default due to the fact they submit to four different agencies... three of them being Shutterstock, Pond5 and Adobe. Unless you get the majority of your sales from SS, then uploading to those three and Vimeo individually, would probably make you more money.
