General Stock Discussion / Re: DT Headed South
« on: May 22, 2012, 12:22 »
I have constant mixed feelings about DT, it doesnt look bad lately but still quite low/stagnated, will see next months..

4077
I wonder how radically this would change the search algorithm too, I hope it doesnt turn into a catastrophe, like gostwyck said its quite pointless to do this exercise

4078
I would like to see it, why dont you post a link here?

4079
no, not even if they pay 2$/sale and 1$/upload

4080
nice job!

it reminds me again how some top contributors have a ranking they arent supposed too, cool :D

4081
Who cares? That was then and this is now. The past is frankly irrelevant in what was a developing industry and analysis of it is no guide as to what might follow. Now and the future is all that matters.

are you willing to shoot very small objects, etc? if so go for it, if not dont.. if you have a 24 70 I dont really think you need another lens to do stock

4084
interesting topic back from 2008, even more curious is that his/her account is with the same pictures so why this?

I actually got a sale today: 33 cents.   Isn't PD just making on-demand sales at subscription prices?

again thats your own experience, I have close to 200$ and 253 sales (RPD at 0.79$)

I got my 21 cents back, thank God!

The honesty is refreshing.

21 cents too, it shows how good we perform at BigStock  ;D

I believe they havent punished emerald and superior ranking, there was a time because of DP that they were going to decrease their pricing but nothing happened actually, so they are still respecting top contributors

Believe me Emeralds have been punished. Some of us were pushed so far back in the search that my I lost 75% of my earnings virtually overnight and it never has recovered.  I know others that had similar treatment at the same time it happened to me so it wasn't anything that I did or didn't do that caused it.

yep I know that, yourself, Lisafx too but I was mainly talking about the royalties % but I do understand what you are saying, perhaps more important than royalties..

to me SS is around 3x IS but I believe most big/top contributors were actually having similar income (of course less sales but a higher RPD), these lastest months/year SS is becoming more relevant to the majority of them

p.s: 4x less total income on IS comparing to SS

I think FL has actually pushed many contributors about as far as they are willing to go. Any further cuts are bound to result in an exodus. Or am I being overly optimistic?

Time will tell but the comments here seem to point in that direction. It would be a lot less painful for most people to dump Fotolia than it is for exclusives to dump the crown and in my view Fotolia has consistently been far more aggressive and deceitful in its treatment of contributors - to and perhaps beyond the verge of outright dishonesty - than iStock.

I believe they havent punished emerald and superior ranking, there was a time because of DP that they were going to decrease their pricing but nothing happened actually, so they are still respecting top contributors

you can say that IS makes a ton more money than FT but actually I dont think you can compare royalties between them

« on: May 17, 2012, 18:31 »
I haven't any sale on DT and IS also...
Weird!

Me either, and SS is dead this whole week for some reason.  I am 50% down SS this month, no OD's and no EL's (very unusual).  It is really pathetic, but probably a cycle of the biz or search. BS never produces squat for me so I consider them like SF.

changes on searches do affect contributors, I am feeling the opposite

What do you mean by  'Spray & Pray' ?

not what you are looking for, its shooting without an aim, and pray to get sales..

Some people were excited about PD for a while, and I started submtting there, but it went nowhere.   Their prices and commissions are just too low, so I'm wondering why I bothered, and thinking I'll close that account.

When I make that rare sale at GL, I get $3, and at least I don't feel like a complete chump for participating.

It seems like none of the "new" sites have gained any real traction against the big agencies, which only continue to drive commissions down.  Some new model has to emerge - not just another me-too site.

again thats your experience, you can generalize it that way, sure they wont rock the world but why not supporting them? if they arent working and you have no patience, just quit simple as that

@ Luis ... I think we have a few who come here just to antagonize and argue; a few egotistical experts and a few who actually do know what they are talking about.

A lot of people who need to eat a Snickers Bar.  (maybe only makes sense in USA?)   ;D

you are spot on!

sure we cannot forget competition between us photographers/illustrators, thats our nature but we need to balance it, the real problem starts when our ego gets way bigger than it should ;D

I upload all I can to SF but the sales aren't very encouraging.  I'm patient but unfortunately, I'm not typical and too many people give up on small sites.  There are other sites that I think are also worth supporting.  GLStockImages and YayMicro also have decent commissions and reasonable prices for buyers.  Should we push all 3 sites?  I think they all deserve as much contributor backing as possible.

That's kind of how I feel. I think I disagree with 100% of people on this forum about the "right" direction for microstock, so it would be hard to find a union to represent my interests.

Haha... same here. Today especially is one of those days where I wonder why I'm here.

Don't be surprised if my username goes black some day soon. :)

honestly I dont understand why there is always huge "competition" between here and SS forum, why cannot people get along?

cool how we blame agencies when we cannot even talk with each other :o

The only way would be a Union...

That always comes up in these discussions, but probably will never happen and even if it did, I would probably never get involved. I'm not really the joining type.

thats interesting, if I may ask you, what % of your income come from microstock beside your own agency? maybe you are becoming less and less dependent on agencies so you have different interests, that said I agree with 99% of your posts

sure, I believe I don't need to teach the lesson to a priest, my bad (thats a portuguese expression)

What's your problem? So I didn't upload my old junk. Because I don't have 100% of my portfolio on SF I'm disqualified from encouraging anyone to upload there?

I have my complete portfolio as it stands today on SF. It's not my entire body of work, it's what my portfolio is as I consider it complete and current today. Sorry I didn't specify that I didn't mean everyone should upload every last image regardless of quality or usefulness. Figured most sensible folks would have got that though.

JEEZ man, read again, I said MY BAD and that I am sure that you are doing the right thing, peace!

I have what matters. I'm not going to upload the junk from 5 years ago that doesn't sell anywhere.
