There's no error. 50 is max for best acceptance ratio(80-100). Lower than that you only get a part Users with an approval percentage of between 50-80% can upload the fifth part of the maximum amount of images daily. Users with an approval percentage of between 30-50% can upload the tenth part of the maximum amount of images daily. Users with an approval percentage of between 0-30% can upload the 30th part of the maximum amount of images daily.
Hi Klauts, that is totally correct but please note that this is just a temporary decrease to 50 a day for best acceptance. The normal is 100. They just drop it down when they are getting swamped with images! I can usually submit 20 a day (on 76%) but it is 10 a day for the moment. It changes all the time, but they always put an announcement on the site when it does. BTW the limits apply both to uploads and submissions (so in my case I can upload 10 images a day and submit for review 10 images a day). Regards, David.

It mentions in the email that they want un-model released street scenes, do any of the other micros that take editorial accept street scenes?
Hi Richard, certainly DT/SS/BigStock/YAY and not forgetting Picturenation here in the UK (once they are back online) do take street scenes. I've just recently put up some of Hampstead, London, in the snow). I'm not with 123RF at the moment, but will certainly be looking at them now. I wonder if all micro sites will eventually take editorial? I would love to see Istock do that! Regards, David.

Like Warren I used a Mamiya TLR for many years. I lugged that and an Olympus OMI around Fleet Street for many years (B/W in the Mamiya and colour tran in the OMI -the latter for Television "stills"). Don't have either camera anymore. What I do still have is my first "proper" camera which I was given when I was eleven years old. A GB Kershaw 630 folding camera (120 format). Press a button on the top and the lens pops out on a little bellows arrangement. Some of the pictures I took on that then have sold on micro sites recently! I'll have to buy a roll of film for it sometime -just for fun. Regards, David.

Yup, just got my payment notification as well $1.75 (no tax deductions). Hope to buy a small bar of chocolate tomorow Seriously, all due respect to Corbis for paying out any earnings at the end of the year, regardless of the amount. They always did this at Snapvillage as well. It's an example to other sites that just hang on to the money earned. Regards, David.

^^^ Nice reply! I thought you might need to pour yourself a large one after reading that but you seem to have a sense of humour.
Hi Richard, I'll second Gostwyck on that one! My apologies for suggesting you might be a Picturenation breakaway (as I said, just idle speculation -it sort of fitted in nicely). I never subscribed to the terrorist plot suggestion though! I have nothing but admiration for anyone trying to launch a new business in the current economic climate and I would love to see more successful British picture sites. So I will wish you the best of luck. However, my suggestions would be 1) engage in dialogue here frequently so that potential contributors can build up trust in your new site. 2) Rethink your pricing and commission. I am afraid that nobody (or very few) here are going to be attracted by 15pence a download (well, obviously, I cannot speak for everyone but I would be surprised). You have pitched it at about the same as Shutterstock but they get masses of sales every day. A new business will not. If you are going the Subscription route how about pitching upmarket -say 1 commission a download?. That said, it's your business, not mine! Regards, David.

Most concerning is the complete lack of address/phone number/ownership details. I certainly wouldn't want to be sending an unknown business my passport/driving license details.
I stand, partially, corrected. There is a business address (on the Model Release you can download). "Suite 30, Sheffield Technology Parks," etc. Hmmm Sheffield is not a million miles away from Stafford (home to offline for three months but "back soon" UK agency Picturenation). Some sort of breakaway venture? Probaly a complete co-incidence but until they provide full information about themselves they should expect idle speculation like mine . Mind you, at 15pence per download from an unknown start up, I won't be wasting too much time on that! Regards, David.

We should email this wanna-be and ask them to provide their business plan, current government-issued identification cards of their owners, financial statements, and ten of their best images for us to inspect. Only then would I even consider uploading to a new sit
Well the 10 best images won't be a problem Lou -they just have to approve those "25,000 pending images" Regards, David.

Just received an e-mail from workingtitleimages.com to become a new submitter to a brand new agency located in the UK. Anyone else received an e-mail and what do you think about: Our current payout is 15 pence per download and due to our low prices and subscription model our buyers download a high number of images each month. At 2,000 downloads each month you would earn (GBP) 300, that's 3,600 per year. [/quote
Hang on, that's just the Shutterstock home page re-written with UK pricing! How on earth can an agency that doesn't even exist yet make claims that "our buyers download a high number of images a month". Nor can they be "Europes leading" anything when they haven't launched yet. Most concerning is the complete lack of address/phone number/ownership details. I certainly wouldn't want to be sending an unknown business my passport/driving license details. This looks like a total wind up (to see how gullible some of us are) . If this really is a serious business venture then I suggest they get on here and explain some of their claims. And, I didn't get an email either! Wishing you all a very happy and sales filled (at least 2000 a month) New Year. Kind regards, David.

Hi i respect your views but i recieved reort of a c.c.j registered against them this week. Im fairly new to pn but i deal with a large amount of ltd companys and from experience my gut feeling tells me we wont be seeing them or our money again.
I really do hope im wrong for everyones saks but sometimes we all have to face facts. I wish you all a happy new year and hope that you did not lose too much from pn
Paul.
Hi Paul, I only have 16.50 outstanding at the moment so not worth worrying about that. It's the amount of time I have spent getting 1200 images online with them! Still I guess we will find out soon what is happening (though I think I have said that before!). All the time there is still that "apology" notice on their site I remain hopeful. Somebody is keeping that there. Regards, David.

PN latest actions
This is not actions required to change hostes
Report Changes Click here to buy updated report 30/06/2008 - Appointment of director / secretary 25/12/2009 - Risk score change New Documents 24/12/2009 - CH01 - Change of director's details
Well, no, nothing to do with changing hosts. Updating directors details is a legal requirement for a Limited Company and quite routine. Not sure that you can conclude anything from that. Regards, David.

The site has been updated (21st Deceomber) with a similar notice to before. They intend to get back up and running but who knows when.
Meantime I've managed to make my first sale on iStockPhoto and I'm starting to realise that there is very little point in banking on sales from PN.
Many congrats on your first sale at Istock! The PN saga is all taking way too long but I am encouraged by the fact they are still updating. They haven't gone under as some have suggested. If/when they do get the site back up, just wait and see how your sales go. But, yes, I think you are quite right to be spreading your port round different sites. The attraction of PN for me is that one sale there (if you exclude web res sales) pays way more than most micro sites. We will see, I suppose. Good luck with your sales anyway. Regards, David

stockmatized Great word. Stock is killing the fun on my vacations. I can't seem to take an image without thinking STOCK!!!
Killing the fun? Getting loads of new stock images IS the fun, Warren! Just ask my ex partner (it, sadly, wasn't fun for her which is one reason why I say ex). She was quite interested to look at a little roadside chapel on a small Greek island for a few minutes, but after twenty minutes of me hunting for the best angles/lighting etc, tended to get a bit bored). And then, of course, BigStock reject them as "snapshot image" It takes a special talent to spend that long achieving something that looks like I just clicked the button and walked on! Regards, David ("thinking stock" for 35 years now).

Still how long should I wait for their answer? I mailed to [email protected], this was the right mail no? I pretty much signed up because of the "third party program" it's nice to have some exposure in the local markets.
Hi Klauts, it may be a while before you hear anything. Try and be patient! The first Third Party batch was done early 2009 and was just for invited contributors (presumably the best selling ones). In the Summer (around June) they invited all contributors to put together a folder of 100 images for consideration. It took about a month at least before we heard anything. Mine were included in the second batch and I just got my first payment of 11 euros. They are looking to do a third batch soon (according to postings on the Yay forum) so hopefully yours will get selected then. I am sure they will post on the site when this is happening. I am sure you haven't done any harm by contacting them now but I wouldn't expect any action until they invite everyone for the next batch! Three things to make clear (if not already). If they like your 100 images they then select from your entire portfolio. Secondly, not all potential images will go into each batch, just a selection -and then, hopefully, more in the next batch. Finally, once selected you do not have to do anything further. They will look at your portfolio each time they are selecting a new Third Party batch. Hope this helps and good luck with your sales. Regards, David.

After several years of selling images online, my commission from PN still exceeds anything I have made on the micro sites Can we please get real? PN is dead, certainly after this disaster. No need to pamper the dead. They are as dead ad the Norvegian parrot from Monty Python. They ceased to be, they are no more, they're gone. The dog ate the backup of their images or they didn't grasp the concept of backups at all.
Well I was going to say FD, never mind the dog, but the cat has obviously got their tongue (not the cat on the left, I hasten to add!). However, their site has a new update today, at last. "Should" be back online this week. So parrot or phoenix? Hmm, we'll find out in the next few days I guess. By the way, I love your phrase "pamper the dead" -that would be a great name for a rock band, in my opinion. Make sure you get the royalties on that! Kind regards, David.

Seems to be about a week for mine.
Second that, I had a batch reviewed last week which had been in for about six days. Approvals seem to be picking up as well for me. Regards, David.

That's interesting, I'm now getting the notice page as well, though the (non) log in page has been up most of the day for me. Who knows? I did get some good sales from PN. They had slowed of late but I am/was hopeful about the new lower rates. After several years of selling images online, my commission from PN still exceeds anything I have made on the micro sites (though Shutterstock is catching up very fast!). Good luck with Istock. Regards, David.

Try it now - looks like it might be coming back.
+ I can't log in.
Hmm...I got excited initially but now I'm not so sure. Would they re launch online with a site that doesn't work? And check that error message "page may not exist". I think what we have here could just be a "ghost" page. As an example of what I mean search for former British photo agency britishimages.co.uk. You can still get log in pages for that come up, which go nowhere when you try them. Just the way the internet works it seems, with loads of cached pages floating about. That's not to say they won't be back, but I think they would re launch with an operational site (and there would be postings on their Twitter page to announce it). Regards, David.

I understand what you are saying Sharpshot. I guess I am just hoping that they have some loyal customers as well as contributors. I am still surprised they haven't updated on Twitter as they must realise what people are starting to think. I know they look at this forum sometimes, so can see for themselves. Regards, David.

Hi fellow Picturenation contributors. Firstly I should say I do not have any inside or first hand information on the situation at PN. For those that haven't seen it go to their Facebook page and click on "Just Fans". There is a posting there from a PN member who has spoken to Jane Louise. He says he was told that there is an ongoing legal dispute which resulted in PN effectively being "locked out" of their own data base. As I cannot verify this I won't go into further details here (it's still there to read on Facebook). I know from personal experience that anything involving legal matters can often take longer than you expect to sort out. Secondly, PN are a Limited Company and subject to Company Law. If they had "gone bust" as some are speculating, a liquidator would have been appointed and in these circumstances I think there is no way there would still be that "sorry we are offline but back soon" web page online as it would be a misrepresentation of the legal situation. Equally PN wouldn't be allowed to keep posting on Twitter that they will be back soon if this wasn't the case. Indeed, what would be the point anyway? I have dealt with a number of newspapers and magazines over the years that have gone bust and you usually get a letter from the liquidator within days asking you to make your claim against the failed business. We haven't received anything, so again I suggest they are still in business. My guess? A whole package of legal and technical issues keeping them offline (and if it's legal, they probaly cannot say much either). I'm not a lawyer, so don't take any of my comments as gospel, but they do represent my personal experience of the scenario when a business goes down. None of this matches that, so I say keep checking the site and lets hope they are back online very soon. I echo the previous poster who said it was good to see a British company breaking into the market and I am wishing them well. Regards, David.

Hi to you fellow Picturenation photographers, I've been in a bit of a minority here on MSG, so welcome. I don't have any inside info (I've held off contacting Jane Louise, because I reckon they have enough to deal with at the moment). I am taking at face value that they have (big, obviously) IT problems at the moment and wishing them the best for sorting it out quickly. It does seem a long time to be offline but do not forget that they are a small team. The big Micro sites probaly have dozens of IT people to call on if there is a problem. I'm guessing probaly just a couple (tops) at PN. Since we have a rare thread about British sites you may be interested to know that I contacted BAPLA (British Association of Picture Libraries & Agencies) last week regarding Britishimages.co.uk. They confirmed that they have lost all contact with them and cancelled their membership. So I guess that one really has gone (with my 500 images aboard). Hope to see PN up and running very soon. Regards, David.

Jet pack? Get real Leaf. I'm still waiting on that personal Autogyro that you keep on the roof of your house and fly to work in! I'm sure that was meant to happen in the 1980's. Mind you, we did get the Sinclair C5 electric "car" . Thanks for that post -fascinating! Regards, David

They were going well for me last year (pre recession) but sales have slowed way down this year. They have, however, just launched a new (much lower) pricing structure. Hi res sales that were 75 are now 15 and so on. They are also now offering E.L.'s. Commission remains at 40% so still represents a good premium over most micro sites. Basically, they have acknowledged the competition from Microstock and are moving to be more competitive. There is a newsletter on their site about this if you log in, giving more detail. On the plus side they have now been going for around four years so are not an untried start up. Clients include Sky news and BBC Television (PN is run by an ex BBC news director so she has the contacts!). Most of my sales have been editorial, but I cannot speak for anyone else. It's really a question of how much upload time you have available. I'll continue to upload to them in the hope that the new pricing and marketing they are doing will lift sales. But, yes get 250 images on at Istock and expect regular sales. With a newer, smaller site that would be unrealistic. Regards, David

Hope this is useful for someone! On the "My Uploads" page look at the royalty column. The amount there is the all time total royalties for that image (e.g. $3.50). Click on that amount and you then get a list of all sales for that image and how much you earned each time. You have an option from there to check EL's, print sales etc. Sorry if you all knew this but it took me a year to find it (and then by chance) so I'm guessing I am not the only one! Regards, David.

Only 61 files online (and far more rejected) so didn't expect much in sales yet, but what is worrying is an almost complete lack of views. Apart from a couple I test viewed myself (to see if the views counter functioned correctly!) I think my views after nearly a month add up to about 3. I had high hopes for Veermarketplace on the basis that Veer itself was long established and had a big client base. I'm getting more views on Yaymicro than here! Not too happy about their search engine either. I have quite a few images of the Greek island of Meganissi on there. Search "meganissi" and you get zero results. Add Greece, Islands etc and you get masses of results with mine sprinkled amongst numerous other Greek islands. Can't quite figure that one out. But still very early days yet, just a bit dissapointed. Reviews, like for everyone else, seem totally random and "luck of the draw" as to what gets accepted. Regards, David.
