Panthermedia.net / Re: Panthermedia goes International
« on: February 02, 2008, 03:23 »
I uploaded about twenty pictures yesterday (by FTP). Half of them I found and edited. What a quirky upload system! After editing and selecting the category I clicked for the final save, and every time the save failed and I had to do it all again. No warning messages about field misses or anything like that.
The last time I took screen shots before saving to check if I was doing anything wrong. Everything was as it should be. They all worked on the second save. I gave up totally frustrated.
This morning I cannot access the remaining files. The site is clunky and slow, and times out on a lot of the links.
First impressions; not very impressive.

I uploaded and got my pictures reviewed the next day.
I just had a payout there as well. Sales are slow but regular, and I like getting paid in Euro.

LuckyOliver.com / Re: doubts about LO
« on: January 15, 2008, 03:07 »
I have not had a sale there since November 16th, on a portfolio of 562.
I have list for the order in which I upload to the sites, the most profitable for me at the top, down to the least return per image at the bottom. The last few sites only get submissions if I have a lot of spare time, something that does not happen often! LO is way down the list.
Its sad because they seemed like a breath of fresh air when they first started, but without sales they are not worth the effort.

Keyword search: A delicious strawberry gateau and a cup of coffee;

Image bought; A delicious strawberry gateau and a cup of coffee

He he he.

With only one picture in the search result I was sure to get the sale!

General - Top Sites / Re: How is January doing for you?
« on: January 14, 2008, 03:05 »
Comparing January this year with January last year, I have three times as many pictures in my portfolio on average.
I have so far made six times as much money as this time last year. Fotolia especially is romping away with the sales, with SS not far behind.
IS seems to have stagnated. My portfolio is much smaller there as they reject everything out of hand, but what I have got seems to be selling much slower than usual. Last year they were my top earner, this year they are not even in the top 5.

Shutterstock.com / Re: why shutterstock?
« on: December 28, 2007, 03:41 »
I agree with Fotografer. Shutterstock has earned me more in the last few months than all the other sites combined. They just keep growing, and I have seen no sign of the sales diminishing.
The growth must slow eventually, but I don't think it will be in the next twelve months. The advertising I have seen, including mail shots and magazines, is extensive, and should have more buyers using the site over the next few months.

To learn how make really good video footage, and sell lots of it. A new venture for the New Year.
To do more photography for my own pleasure rather than with stock always in the back of my mind.
To master HDR imaging.
That should keep me busy for a while!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Your 4 Best software programs

I would choose:

Photoshop CS3

3DS Max

Poser

Filezilla, I cannot imagine the hassle of uploading without an FTP program.

General - Top Sites / Re: December Sales Flat?
« on: December 13, 2007, 02:57 »
It is my 3rd December in Microstock. It has been a flat month every year, dropping to hardly anything for the last week of the year.  :(
Lets look forward to January.

Shutterstock for sheer professionalism, and my biggest earner by far.

Then SX (if they will ever pay me, when are they getting Paypal sorted?).

I have a real soft spot for Bigstock. When I first started out they were the most helpful site, the reviewers even sending me emails with pointers and tips. Their encouragement meant a great deal.

Bigstock is one of the most reliable sites as far as earnings go. They are always in my top five or six, and the earnings increase from month to month.

Off Topic / Re: Paypal advice
« on: December 08, 2007, 02:40 »
I had a problem with Paypal a few months ago. $600 was taken out of my account without my authorisation.
I notified Paypal at once, and they were super efficient. My account was frozen until I changed my password, and Paypal refunded all the money back to me within 3 days.
They really are geared up to deal with problems quickly.

Zymmetrical.com / Re: Becoming an "Artist"
« on: December 06, 2007, 02:49 »
I have been waiting since early October. Tried the FTP, it wouldn't work. The images that have been accepted have lost all their keywords.
The site is tortuous to navigate. I don't have the time to mess about.
BUT, I like the enthusiasm there. I like that they respond to what we say here. They are really trying to be different. I want it to work!

I would just like to have some image reviews.
Pictures I uploaded on 10th October are still waiting review. I emailed support, but they just said be patient. I think I have been extremely patient. >:(

Photoshop Discussion / Re: problem with isolating objects
« on: November 19, 2007, 12:53 »
I think that the best way to isolate objects is to shoot them on white. Isolation at post-processing stage is at best difficult and at worst impossible.

Thats a bit difficult if you are isolating animals shot at the zoo, children in a playground etc. Not everything can be shot in a studio, yet they are great sellers.

I know what you mean about them being uber picky about isolations.
They just rejected one of my illustrations for poor isolation. Trouble was, it wasn't isolated at all, and actually had a very nice background!

Congratulation. Its a lovely image.
Let us know if it effect sales will you?

Off Topic / Re: 3D models
« on: November 05, 2007, 02:53 »
You can use Poser models like normal 3D models.
Just download Daz Studio - it is free. It loads all Poser models and props easily. Then export them in the format you want, and import them into your main program. Easy peasy.
There are tons of Poser props and models freely available.

SnapVillage.com / Re: First sale...
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:03 »
When I view my statement it says three downloads,  two subscritions and a standard sale.
When I sort by downloads, one of the subscrition sales does not show. I reported the bug, but you may like to check if it has happen to your portfolio.

I am holding out hope for snapvillage, the got a big backer in Corbis.

I would vote for Snapvillage, just because of their backers. I also am have hopes for Albumo, they seem to have their act together.

Mostphotos.com / Re: Most photos - new "midstock" site!
« on: October 17, 2007, 11:36 »
I tried to register, - three times.
The first time I tried to enter who had refered me to the site, and it threw me out.
The second time I came to the bottom of the form and clicked to read the terms and conditions before I completed registration. When I clicked the back button to go back to the registration for, all my details had gone.
I completed the form again. I live in Cheshire in the UK. The form insists that there are no cities in Cheshire. It will not let me enter a city manually. It will not accept my registration without a city being entered.
The form is also quirky. When I tried to key in my nickname, each time the cursor jumped to the previous field. It took about three attempts before the cursor stayed where it belonged!
I give up. Sorry, I would have loved to upload a few images. :(
