General Stock Discussion / Re: Pond5 "Good News"!« on: March 14, 2019, 16:32 »
It is going to a fixed price model or something along those lines. It is a revenue grab. It ties right into the RESEARCH they just conducted on the optimal video pricing. Why on earth would they do research on video pricing when it is a contributor sets the price model? They wouldnt. So expect this to be bad news spun as good news that ends up being bad news. Volume will go up...bla bla.

General - Stock Video / Re: Pond5 removing 4k pricing« on: February 08, 2019, 08:45 »Good points but they should recruit beta testers. Surprises are unnecessary and distract from content creation. I say SO WHAT? Your argument only holds water if P5, like costco, controlls pricing, which they dont. You are missing the entire point. Pond5 is a SET YOUR OWN PRICE site. Not a controlled pricing site. Costco is a controlled pricing business. There is a big difference. So unless Pond 5 intends to dictate prices like most other sites do, there is no substance to your argument. And the way they snuck clips into this test without informing contributors is shameful. I am relatively certain there is some tiny clause in 5 point font point font in their terms that allows them to do this, but it is certainly came across as deceitful. Who is now responsible for resetting their prices back to the way they were when the test is completed? And all of this testing is for what? To merely recommend a price pojnt to us? They do that today and I ignore that. And I do fine on P5. They could have very well asked for volunteers but they chose to nab n grab. In the end, your position is only substantitive if P5 is moving towards forcing fixed pricing on contributors. 432

Here is a post from an admin on P5.
gregp5 2019-02-06 09:47 Hey guys, As you've noticed, we are running a pricing test on 4K content with the goal of maximizing revenue for our Artists. This test effects a subset of 4K content on Pond5. As we mentioned over the summer during our Web Resolution test, we feel it is our obligation to regularly test different ways to increase your earnings. We are, in fact, always testing something, be it price points, shopping cart features, homepage experience, etc. Some of these tests are more noticeable than others. Our testing is always intensely methodical and designed not to cannibalize existing sales. At the same time, if we do not test, we cannot grow. We want to make recommendations to you based on data, not guesswork. This test is designed to zero in on the optimal price point for 4K, relative to HD (which is what most buyers purchase). The goal is to drive the most total revenue to you, the artist. We're very excited to see how it goes and, just like our last price test, will be sharing our findings with the community so that everyone can benefit. For more info about the specific parameters of this test, please email us directly at [email protected] Thanks! They sure went about this the wrong way by forcing artists into the test without their permission. Moreover, once the test is done will Pond 5 reset the clips to their original prices? The post reads as if they are doing this to ultimately RECOMMEND to artists and not necessarily dictate. Wishe they would come in here to clarify. 433
General - Stock Video / Re: Pond5 removing 4k pricing« on: February 07, 2019, 13:19 »
I just did some random searches and there are a ton of high priced 4k clips. Perhaps it is a test with only a subset of artists. None of my clips have suffered any price changes....yet anyway.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How was January?« on: February 02, 2019, 09:28 »
I guess SS is a thing of the past. Way down, like $400. Looking at the last 12 months it is now permanent. It was very common for me making $800-$1000 a month, now I am at the $400-$600. So nothing special with them. Most others are flat. Pond5 was not too bad. I had a big pic sale there, but the big ones are rare. 123 dismal. DT very dismal. Dp was better than average, almost $100 when I make $50-$60 a month. I just did my tax prep and overall I was down only $500 from last year.

VideoBlocks / Re: The reason why sales dropped on VideoBlocks / Storyblocks« on: January 27, 2019, 19:08 »I believe the reason why sales dropped on VideoBlocks / Storyblocks is because they changed their search algorithm. No. They have enough content in their owned collection that the subject matter covers much of what would be in the paid collection. If they changed anything it is to drive traffic to their owned collection. Either way, this was all by design. Any level-headed person knew that this was the intended outcome. And so did VB, SB or whatever you want to call them. 436
123RF / Re: New to 123RF. How long does it take after images are uploaded to get reviewed?« on: January 16, 2019, 19:55 »
I think 123 is on life support. Something happened there where my income went from almost $200 a month to now I can't make a monthly payout. I have given up providing them content. I have to email them just about every time I upload something. Just not worth the time.

I went back and forth with them via email with them finally saying there is no problem. I've uploaded there plenty with no issues. Finally I said FK it. I deleted my entire portfolio. Sales suck there anyway. 440
General Stock Discussion / Re: Why sales on videoblocks are rapidly decreasing??« on: December 23, 2018, 11:36 »Well I guess we can guess how this may play out They've already done that. Sales tanked further. They are just like any other agency who chooses to use the phrase "we expect sales volume to increase by cutting your royalties", when in fact they cannot possibly believe that when historically that hasn't worked with virtually any agency I have been with in over 10 years. 441
VideoBlocks / Re: Wondering if I should delete my files there. Sales just stopped completely« on: December 20, 2018, 10:31 »They had a great model, buyers and artist were happy and now......zzzzzzz We have to be honest with ourselves. VB makes their money via the way ODesigns states. All along their goal was to have a pool of clips that solved for the needs of their customrers within their membership collection. Honestly, i knew deep down that this HAD to be their goal when I signed up.... the goal being to ween their customers off of paid material and support them with their owned collection. It is working. While i enjoyed as high as $500 a month from them, I am now getting $30 ish bucks every 4-8 weeks. The ride, for me, is over with VB. 442
VideoBlocks / Re: Wondering if I should delete my files there. Sales just stopped completely« on: December 19, 2018, 21:14 »
This is another example of the classic "we expect the royalty cut to grow sales" failure. Perhaps it was never about growing sales but getting as much out of what's left of the business before it folds. My sales are pretty much dried up there.

I am down 50%. My sales have progressively begun to regress since January. What an awful month. But then again I haven't uploaded video there in quite some time. Not going to get desperate and upload vids there for that kind of return.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy reducing commission from 50% to 40%« on: December 19, 2018, 08:53 »
Alamay is able to do this because most of their content is non exclusive. Very little risk to their new revenue goals but a positive message they can send all while not really changing a thing on the pay cut.

New Sites - General / Re: New site« on: December 06, 2018, 21:38 »NFW Honestly, it feels like Mr. Rinder might have some kind of stake in One Pixel. Otherwise I cannot understand why he subliminally is pushing to give them a try. Why isn't "the Chad" in here himself trying to sell his model? Is Mr. Rinder his proxy? Not trying to create any conspiracy but this just seems 180 degrees opposite of Mr. Rinder's past posts. So that tells me there "could" be alternative reasons for such a change of heart (or close to it anyway). 450
General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy "good news"!« on: December 05, 2018, 17:11 »Alamy is a privately owned company Yep. He even waffled in his video on that note. |
