close view is a bit underexposed. A reflector would help a lot with window light as  the only source.

hatman12

You are wrong.... I live one day at a time. I piss on the past because it is of no use to me now. I can't change it.
What I can do is live for today, and plan for the future. It's not viewed as a loss to me. The glass is half full if
you get my drift.

Be well hatman12

« on: February 21, 2008, 17:24 »
But I forgot something... do you shoot your subjects over a white background?

Because all what I said is true (really ?) when trying to isolate a subject which was not shot against a white background.

I personnaly have many isolated objects in my portfolio, but they are all shot against a white background and in this case the solution is somehow different.

yes, i shoot over white background. Eager to know you solution ...

Polygonal selection are bascally... useless. With the pen tool you can easily make polygonal selections if you want an a LOT more. The pen tool is not easy to master, but it is definitively the one you should concentrate on  ;)

The rejection of your photo is probably due to the use of the polygonal selection tool. Even if you smooth the selection you will not get a clean selection with this tool.

let me reformulate my question: after selection is done (Pen tool, or whatever tool selection tool) is it enough just to  Modify --> contract by 2 pixels and Modify --> Smooth by 2 pixels ? What about Blur or Feather options ?

Probably blur tool in the tools pallete. What about doing isolations with a pen?

I would like to know how to properly use polygonal tool also.

I got two images rejected with this message "The execution of isolation contains stray areas that are either too feathered or rough". to select i used polygonal tool and then Modify --> contract by 2 pixels and Modify --> Smooth by 2 pixels.  I remember someone mentioned blur,
but I do not see that in Modify menu. What I am missing ?

I joined StockXpert 3 weeks ago. 7 sales with 377 images now online.

... Cookies, maybe, as most sites do.

Adelaide

That's right ... most sites put cookies on your computer.

There's a simple way to deal with this.

Use Firefox as a browser (much better than IE) and set it to erase all cookies every time you shut the browser down.

thanks. I have Firefox and discovered that i had tons of cookies sitting there since the I first istalled the Firefox. Now set to erase on shutdown ...

I use Lightroom. Many find it very good for organizing images. I keep folders by year dates and subfolders by subjects. Without LR I would have been lost with my 800+ images (plus equal number of tiffs).

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Doubts about my starting Lens
« on: February 19, 2008, 11:42 »
@stock_fan: why dont you like EF-S lenses?
@stock_fan: The "Tamron 90mm 2.8 " is the same price of the Canon 100mm. Whats the difference between them?

@vphoto: which one would fit better for my needs? You suggested  Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM Medium Telephoto Lens, I did a quick research and this one cost $309.95. In the end, which one will best cover my needs?
@vphoto: I didnt understand the difference between them  :( (one is macro and the other dont?)

Thanks for all attention.

if you want to shoot  closeups, food,  portrait then Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro. if  food, street, portraits then 50mm f 1.4

At the moment I am leaning to IS, but am bother by the 25% payout.

Any other suggestion and why are welcome. Thanks

submit to both Istock an StockXpert. chance is only one will accept you :)

Alamy.com / Re: 48MB minimum size? a joke? haha
« on: February 19, 2008, 09:58 »
It is still a joke here as Alamy will accept 4Mp pictures upscaled to 16Mp
nope! they would not accept upscaled 4mp files  they require at least 6mp files original size and it is obvious it needs to be DSLR too otherwise an upscaled image  from a P&S camera would fail the quality standards.
it was announced by Alamy they'd enhance their  QC test  and review every single images like in micro agencies  very soon.it is also expected to fasten review process too.in my opinion it would make them more strict too

good news. I was reluctant to send to them more because of a long approval time. I think Alamy makes much sense, since one though rare sale can earn more than a month at most sites (except SS and iStock (even iStock does not do it for me yet ).

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Crazy ... or what?
« on: February 19, 2008, 09:54 »
In have just received an e-mail from iStock telling me that they are deactivating one of my images that has a car in it because (in their words) they are:

" ... taking up this leadership role by implementing a change in our policies, and improving the standards for content that is accepted into the collection."

This is the image:

It's been a steady seller since I uploaded it last autumn, not brilliant, but it's earned me over $20.

And the reason they give for deactivating it is:

"... we can no longer accept most images of cars where the vehicle is depicted as a product or represents more than 20% of the image as the main focus of the photograph. Luxury and exotic cars are not acceptable regardless of size, context or alterations done to the image."

I'm appealing. I mean ... are they going to remove every image featuring a car that's more than a dot on the horizon? What are they afraid of?

Litigiophobia (I made that word up) seems to be spreading wider and wider.

Strange, how could they picked this image out of thousands similar. I mean i requires lots of
time... I hope it was not a computer pick  :-[

I would get Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro and Cannon 50mm f 1.4 lens. Or just with one of these two. One good lens is enough to get started.
