Adobe Stock / Re: Introducing Adobe Stock!

I expect another positive spin.
Only 20% of my FT sales come from US.
Now, with the increased exposure through Adobe Cloud, the US sales will probably get a visible boost!
And since FT has already a slightly better average $/DL than SS, with this increase, it's good news for the contributors, even if FT eats up some of the SS US market share.
What do you think SS will do if they lose market share to FT?

I don't think SS will lower prices, price isn't the attraction with CC/FT, it's the convenience of staying in program and using the image before you buy it. Difficult to see how SS or anyone else can compete with that. BIG USP for them and probably one of the most attractive in the marketplace. Buyers will pay a bit more for that to save their time.

You think of all the service businesses out there who only thrive because they provide services that people either haven't got the skills to do themselves, can't be bothered to do or do not have the time to do; cleaners, chaffeurs, gardeners, printers, photographers, etc, etc. People will pay for convenience and in a business like the creative market where the more time you have the more money you earn it, will be accepted wholesale.

Yep agree - I suspect the biggest cost for buyers is the time they spend looking for images rather than the low cost of the images. S Stock will need to raise their game - will be interesting to see how they do after having an easy ride.

Looks like I was jumped to silver sometime between 10 and 12:30 Uk time. Some proper competition for SS at last? Which I.m specially pleased about as they seem to think my focus control on my camera is bust!

Cathy,

With everything? It would be interesting to hear you point of view

I haven't named anyone so I don't see the harm.

Whilst the comment seemed flippant there's a serious point behind it you need Directors that understand business and are professional in that area. I have to say in my opinion many posts here demonstrate a lack of understanding of commercial realities. So totally ON TOPIC

You can still be professional and have a sense of humour ???

Call me a heretic but I reckon a board of directors made up of contributors would be a complete disaster they probably wouldn't be able to agree to what paper to record the board meeting minutes on!

My suspicions are not very well - hes been very quiet since predicting him moving would spell disaster for S Stock 8).

Mine seem to be moving through......at snails pace but only 4 to go. Guess there might be a big review queue

This thread has been a good read. Thanks for all the thoughtful responses!

Do any of you use uploading services that automatically upload at the flip of a switch? I'm exclusive to iStock so I'm not sure how it works, but I find it hard enough (dull enough) to upload just to one agency, let alone 12 - 13.

I use Filezilla though its not a flick of a switch all sites are much easier than Istock except Panther and veer. If your prepopulate IPTC then most sites are not too horrendous - depends on your boredom threshold though

General Stock Discussion / Re: microstock industry longevity
« on: June 13, 2015, 11:33 »
If I knew the answer I would probably be very rich and I wouldn't tell anyone. All industries have a lifecycle for example camera film and  those closest can't always see the end when its staring them in the face - KODAK!

So no idea really but the annual surveys on here and Shutterstocks share value don't show the end is nigh though some contributors seem to think so

4264
Whilst the funding ownership model may be novel I would take a lot of convincing any new business could generate the sales required unless they come up with something really radical that no one has thought of.

My balance has just been reduced and as a bonus by the correct amount  ;D

The market is already saturated with very similar offerings most sectors on the internet are dominated by one or two companies that got in early. Think I'll put my money on a horse instead.

« on: June 12, 2015, 15:16 »
Funnily enough some of my highest earners actually cost only my time to produce the other costs being fixed OK some petrol but I have to get out of the house anway! (My best SS seller was taken 200 yds away). The tricky bit - is deciding what pics are worth actually spending money to collect. I have some nice pics using models but only one set has actually netted me a (very) decent profit. So reluctantly gave up taking pics of pretty girls :'(

My pics would be classed as (very)  LCV but they make me a bit of a profit and they are mostly things I enjoy taking.

I can see the thinking but don't know if many people have subs on more than one site - if it was me think i'd have a subs account on  one maybe  two sites and if I couldn't find what I wanted "top up" with credit sales

Mickey,

I think you are being very optimistic if you think its possible to know what you will  get for all your sales....sad but true

Veer / Re: Veer sales nowadays
« on: June 12, 2015, 09:56 »
I'm a stubborn if started so I'll finish person but Veer are now (nearly) bottom of my priorities and as I now have quite a big backlog of pics to work on and post on better selling and easier sites to upload on think it will be a while before they see my stuff. (incidentally Panther at very bottom and crestock the only one I stopped on due to high rejection rates no sales and their downright rudeness in their rejection reasons).

Veer / Re: Veer sales nowadays
« on: June 12, 2015, 07:34 »
I remember in a past life Librarians and the like stuck to the gospel of controlled vocabularies and didn't understand how the likes of google searches undermined the concept completely. I heard many times how people wouldn't be able to use the internet efficiently  without a controlled vocabulary then instantly go to google to find what I wanted. In fact the UK govt once had a very sophisticated and no doubt costly search engine based on this.....trouble was some wag put a very similar front end on google and it outperformed it nearly every time and no cost to the tax payer!!!!
