The PD extended license has existed since the site opened. Authors are opted in by default when they sign up, but if you ever opted out, you should never have been opted back in. I'll check to make sure there wasn't an accidental bug.
Why don't you just fix the crummy EL pricing so we'd be happy to opt in?

"Earlier today, you may have received an automated notification of an expected royalty payment. Two emails were sent. The first email mistakenly contains the royalty amount that you received from Shutterstock in January 2012. The second email contains the correct amount for January 2013. The second email contains the amount that you will actually receive.
The royalty payout for January 2013, as reflected in your Earnings Summary, will be paid normally and on schedule."

I can unfave and fave my images, that works fine. However, I'm finding that "faving" an image does nothing to that images rank in the search. I chose an image of mine that hasn't had much action and was listed back on the top of page 9. After faving that image, 5 days later it is still in the exact same spot.
That's because FAVE is a FAT placement placebo to appease contributors and make us feel warm and cozy.

It's not surprising that 123 admins don't bother to participate in the forums anymore....they can't take the verbal fact bashing because their commission cuts are indefensible. In am at level 4 now even though their stupid calculator told me I was at level 5. Bad January there and I don't expect it to get any better there...ever.

Okay, I pulled the trigger. Entire portfolio has been deactivated. 470 total.
Sorry, I couldn't wait until Feb. 2. The situation is too fluid.
This is big. His port is A1 FANTASTIC.

Anyone actually making any money with them? Those subs are horrible. If anyone knows, what is the composition of subs to credit sales? Is it warped?

You should probably wait until 2nd Feb and resubmit. I hear they will need a lot more contributors after that.
That's what I was thinking! OP: post the high resolution version. Hard to make reasonable image assessments without seeing them like the reviewers see them.

I thought that given the gravity of the Istock debacle I'd post what I think is the image of the year.

In almost all your pictures, perspective and framing greatly limits the sales potential.
but jens, isnt that you doing push ups?
Sorry Mantis, I dont know what you mean (push ups)? Did I say something wrong?
I am speaking about that muscular man....he is on what we yanks call the push up position...it's for exercise. He goes down, then up then down then up...etc. Builds muscles. No you didn't do anything wrong.

At the moment thats the only reason why I am anonymous, but I have been wanting to go public for a long time, but I am afraid I have been too negative about a few sites. Anyhoo, I am working on an exit strategy and go public on MSG and just talk nice about agencies ;-)
Gave you a heart. That is close to my situation. In the past I've been "threatened" by some MS agencies due to my "frankness" in their forums and banned on one. I know I've been overbearing here on MSG a few times and I've committed to cleaning up my act. I think that this year I will go public. Some on here know who I am. I don't claim to have an awesome port, but I have been doing this for 7 years so I do have some opinions. This is to day that I am not necessarily worried about people copying my port because, most on here, would never be able to copy my best sellers. I am worried about "revenge"....i.e account closure. But the recent activity at IS almost assures me I will become a public figure at MSG sooner than later.

i hope agencies start to set up in places out of american... because of the 30% tax on my income.. it is a huge amount..
That's a bit tricky. Tax laws are so wild across the globe. WHAT BUYERS WANT 1. Content: This is broadly defined but they want a wide breadth of selection 2. Quality: Not just in terms of technical perfection, but quality in terms of alignment to their needs 3. Pricing: Consistent, fair and no surprises 4. Good licensing options 5. Search accuracy 6. Site Up-time & speed 7. UI simplicity 8. Good communication on CTQ (critical to quality) topics such as planned downtime, special promotions, price change notification with good lead-times 9. Ability to receive refunds in a timely fashion WHAT CONTRIBUTORS WANT 1. Fair commissions 2. Consistent, fair content placement (this is probably a smoking gun) 3. Good communication from admins, especially participation in forum discussions to address issues 4. Easy, flexible payout methods 5. Continued focus on new & growing forms of revenue 6. Licensing that protect photographer 7. Aggressive copyright protection 8. Opt in for any deals outside of the normal course of daily business (another loose definition...but...just saying) 9. Consistent marketing focused on sustainability and growth. 10. Easy upload (no categories, easy model release attachment [if at all], speed, FTP & web up loader) 11. Inspection consistency with clear and sensible acceptance criteria 12. Agency to absorb refunds, or most refunds depending on the circumstances. 13. Tax friendly MS home baseWHAT CONTRIBUTORS MUST DO TO SUPPORT THE SITE 1. Use proper keywords that address the main subject or message of the image (No keyword spamming) 2. Upload compliant images

I think Getty would take more notice if buyers were involved as well. I'd like to see them not buy from istock on February 2end or only buy from exclusives. I'd also like to see those that only use istock commit to trying another site.
Brilliant! It would be great to buyers participate. Maybe add close their accounts to the list of possible things they could do.
Let's try to get the word out to buyers to boycott on that day. Great thinking Sharpshot!
I accidentally did that. I sent an email to my CN (excluding the ones that I know for sure are aware of this), pointing to a link of Sean's blog post, and mentioning Deactivation Day, and that I would no longer be uploading to iStock and in fact deactivating my images and probably closing the account soon and going elsewhere. I left my personal email address. After I did that, I realized that a couple of regular buyers were in my CN. Oops. Oh well.
I have informed my marketing design department of this situation and asked that they transition their business to SS. I work for a 2bil $$ company who is big on visual management so we use a load of stock images.

Really? Interesting that they'd take the time to do that.....especially given your question.

I do not feel Getty is susceptible to any kind of a message from aligned contributors. What is needed to secure the future viability of fair monetary partnership between contributors and distributors, IMO, is for concerned contributors to walk away completely from any further relationship with Getty, sending a message to the industry that we will not tolerate abuse or disrespect of our Intellectual Property.
We must join together and deactivate our entire accounts with Getty.
I believe total deactivation by most contributors is inevitable if Getty continues down the road they are on. However I think it's unrealistic to expect that a majority are going to do that all at once on Feb. 2. For ports with many thousands of images that is going to be logistically difficult.
Like it or not, this thing is going to play out over months, not days. Microstockers have always been a diverse bunch, and up to now impossible to get everyone to agree on any action at all. Each person has a different tolerance for risk and a different set of circumstances to consider.
I think it is really awesome and amazing that so many people in this diverse group are willing to act together on one day. It has never happened before in microstock, so it is historic.
I don't see the "I'm deactivating more than you" debate as constructive. Any and all images deactivated on, before, or near Feb 2 send a powerful statement to Getty.
I prefer to appreciate and praise everyone's individual efforts rather than focusing on who's doing more or less. Let's choose to see this glass as half full, shall we? This is the time to come together and any divisiveness just undermines the whole effort.
Well stated, Lisa. Case in point. While I will deactivate certain images on Feb 2, I am now applying for contributor status on sites I've avoided, my personal goal is to validate whether I can make back the money I'd lose by deactivating all of my content eventually. And that will take months before I can make that decision.

I had an initial thought that once we have a good, comprehensive list (well vetted) Leaf could do a survey that would allow us to vote rank rach criteria against existing stock sites....providing us a snapshot of where we as a community think they are strong and where they may have weaknesses. It's a different way of evaluating sites other than using revenue.
