Full-time stock going on my 6th year, I have been at it since 2004 but full time for 6 years. It has it's ups and downs and I have around 8k video files. I am never bored and I do side jobs as well to keep balance. 2015 was a down year for me but I am hoping I can pick back up in 2016! I have been with my family more and wouldn't trade a day of it. I love the stock life and as with any job frustrations are there but the freedom is priceless! Still learning a lot and will have to learn until I die. I have to change and adapt but I am still here :-) I have already shot 6 commercials for yp in 2016 and more book so even when Jan is slow I still work! I say stop crying and start using your skills in as many areas as you like and can.

On a side note, I opened the mail box this week and got a letter from the IRS stating I owed them $25,676.00 in taxes. After further research I noticed that they took one of my w9 for a job of $600.00 and made it $60,000.00!!! Now my accountant is handling the communication with the IRS but it will take months to resolve! Don't mess with the tax man!

I report every red penny I earn from anyone and give it to my accountant! USA here

I don't sell all my 4k for $1 Getty has a program where large buyers get basically so many free clips so you get a load of 1-10 commissions now and then. It is not really much different then VB as they offer a free area if you subscribe and then the market price.

It is an interesting concept for the business. The big dogs like Getty, where I am,  do this all the time that is why I have a load of $1 sales for my HD and 4k content there. If the buyers spends x they give the x number of Dl's say at $3.00. With VB it is like Amazon Prime, you have to be a member to get the cheaper price, the good news for them is the 4k is not at a discount only HD, I could see them putting 4k at $150 and raising HD to $69  either way this is very interesting to watch on the business front. They are looking to grow the subscription base as that is how they make their money, nothing is free as you have to pay the $99.00 per year for access.  Time will tell.

General Stock Discussion / Video CSV Questions
« on: December 02, 2015, 17:57 »
Feel free to message me on this. I am looking for a good csv template I can use for SS, Pond5 and others. can I build one template for all? if not which should I use and the best way to modify it for other sites.  Thanks.  Yes looking at the non-exclusive route.

Makes sense, I am all for buyers finding iStock useful!  Thanks

465
That was my concern, why would a buyer need to share my file? If it was limited to their single e-mail address that makes sense but if a buy can purchase it once and send it out to whoever with no limits that makes no sense. Not being negative here just trying to understand the need. Happy to see anything that brings buyers!

General Stock Discussion / Getty And WeTransfer? Please Explain

Can someone buy my file and transfer it to who ever right from iStock? I thought dropbox had this covered. Is this a need for
the buying community?

How long have you been on istock and are you exclusive

Credit sales are down for me and video is in terrible shape, I don't know if that is related to fewer people buying credits. Tough times at iStock!

General Stock Discussion / Sties For Graphic Artist
« on: November 25, 2015, 17:34 »
Hello,

I have a friend who is in college for graphic arts. I do not know the best sites for graphic artist. I would like to steer her towards the upper end like Stocksy for photos. Any suggestions on where to make the best money online for her?  Thanx!

When I need footage or music I buy from pond5. I make around 10 purchases a year so nothing big.

Yes, artist do not get a cut on the access fee Getty charges. I have no clue what that is.

This is a fact I have been exclusive there since 2006. This program is confirmed.

473
So if you scroll over a few  similars on this image on iStock you can see how great the non-exclusive match is to my file.  This is bad for everyone  https://jjneff.smugmug.com/IStock/IStock/i-RDMwwkn/A

To be fair the $6 is a promotion of some kind not all 4k or HD is that low. That being said 18 out of my 28 Dl's in Oct. were below $20.00. I have a few at really good prices but those 1 and 6 dollar sales kill me.
