General Stock Discussion / Re: November Sales« on: November 25, 2018, 09:32 »I wonder if SS should do what Dreamstime does- any image that doesn't sell in a time period is removed. Of course, if SS just didn't accept the poor image in the first place they wouldn't have to worry about cleaning it up! I've gone from around $180 a month to $20 a month on DT and from $800 a month on SS to, well, this month will be $400, last month $500, so a drop based on a sudden change. 453

General Stock Discussion / Re: Barewalls Legit?« on: November 24, 2018, 09:35 »All mine are there as well, but my portfolio there says csp_backyardproduct, which I think is my Canstock account. This could explain the occasional "large" sales I get on Canstock - one for $33.80 last month for instance. I don't get many, but they have been more frequent of late and they tend to be more "artistic" or "wall art" subjects Yes. I have had two $30 plus sales in the last couple of months, but those are rare. Makes me feel good when I see a giant spike on the states, but that joy is deflated when you look at the Y axis:) 455
Alamy.com / Re: Today Bites- REFUND by Alamy again« on: November 24, 2018, 09:32 »
I've had my fair share of refunds but have learned to accept it at Alamy. Overall, they have been a pretty fair agency when comparing to others "micro sites". While Alamy is not technically micro, they are inching their way closer to that model. Not defending their policy but they do respond to emails and they do pop in here to address issues, which is way more than I can say about SS or most other micros. When Scott Braut was part of this forum it was meaningful. Once he left, SS became just another agency to me. RIP Scott.

General Stock Discussion / Re: November Sales« on: November 24, 2018, 09:27 »Its true! SS is collecting all the garbage under the sun! pics that normally would be thrown away are accepted all over the place. If I had to choose one factor that is hurting SS the most it's this. 457
General - Stock Video / Re: Did the new commission structure on Storyblocks make any impact on your sales?« on: November 21, 2018, 18:58 »
Yes, the impact is negative. Selling about half what I did before the change.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Video sales« on: November 20, 2018, 20:52 »seems like when we find a money making area the companies soon reduce commissions or give our stuff away for basically free! Yes. Previously, these people would have to pay full price for a 720 res file. SS and other companies really only looked at this through the lens of the share holders. They could attract more customers willing to pay far less than a 720 clip and perhaps affect top line sales more favorably that the base who would typically purchase 720 rez. The loser is the supplier. The loser will usually always be the supplier. 459

iStockPhoto.com / Re: October Earnings Post« on: November 16, 2018, 07:38 »What happenedI don't know why people dislike iStock so much, it sells. If me or anyone could figure that out we would be rich:) Seriously, I do not have a clue. What I do know is that it's been quite some time since I've uploaded video there and only now and then am I uploading images. I suppose it would be inactivity if they use that in their algorithm. Who knows, though. 461

Shutterstock.com / Re: No sales today« on: November 10, 2018, 09:22 »
Something is really wrong for me with SS. I am at $100 for November. I should be at three times that minimum based on my trend. At this rate I will end the month at $300, which is 50% less than the last few months and 70% less than my multi year usual of $800-$900 per month.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 123rf« on: November 01, 2018, 21:01 »
I was making in the $150-$180 range per month and today it takes me two months to make payout. They are pretty dead for me.

VideoBlocks / Re: Commission cut« on: October 14, 2018, 08:28 »
Haven't seen any volume increase. In fact, VB is very soft on sales for me right now. One sale a month. Last sale was half of $49.

General - Stock Video / Re: Motion elements« on: October 14, 2018, 08:25 »How are your sales in 2018 going at Motion Elements? I closed my account there...well not really but technically. You are not allowed to delete clips that have sold for three years. But, I deleted all other clips and the 25 or so that have sold, I deleted all of the keywords, descriptions, etc. SO they sit idle for three more years. Their system stopped accepting their CSV format. I tried working on that with them and it was never fixed. So I said fk it. I'm out. 466
General Stock Discussion / Re: 123rf slow to review« on: October 04, 2018, 07:28 »
I almost don't care about how they review. Sales going from 180 a month to now waiting two months just to make a $50 payout means that they can review all they want, but their business as a whole is dying. You can send them a message to review your work, then you can send them another one asking why your work isn't showing up. Maybe they will fix it or maybe the problem is not currently addressable due to lack of I.T. resources, or whatever. 123 is in a race with DT for the going out of business. I now make double from DP with fewer photos and no videos on their site.
We are merely watching the industry dynamics happen. 467

General Stock Discussion / Re: Selling Stock on Your Behalf« on: September 10, 2018, 08:19 »
No, and I don't pay another agency to do my key wording. All processing and preparation is done by me, so it costs only my time. Using your model (or ideas, I lose even more with an already anorexic microstock biz. I don't think you'd ever find enough people to successfully run a business outlined in your post. Any fee, no matter how small, is too much.

50/50 royalties $70-$90 per clip depending on the package. I'm not a drone shooter but could be another revenue source for some of you. 471

I still have accepted videos that aren't showing up...accepted four weeks ago. So I agree, the site is messed up and the staff does not seem responsive to site issues. Maybe they're just milking every last cent they can before calling it quits. 473

Shutterstock.com / Re: Has Shutterstock returned to normal for you?« on: August 26, 2018, 10:43 »It's been an absolute disaster for me this month, down more than 50% on any month in the last few years (and down something like 95% on my best-ever months.) I am currently 50% down ($400 less than normal for scale) and I had my first zero download day (on a Saturday) in 10 + years. This drop is significant and it is month #4 I've been in this range. Four months ago I dropped from $800 a month to $600 a month. June/July I went from $600 to $500 and this month (August) I will be at $400 unless I get some really big, juicy sales this coming week. But I have accepted that the industry for many is on life support. Beer money now and maybe an occasional lens or strobe after a few months of saving. |
