General - Top Sites / Re: How is January doing for you?
« on: January 29, 2008, 17:12 »
11 January Sales on my small portfolio as follows:

6 = DT        (  29    images approved)
2 = FT         (  29   images apprvoed)
3 = 123rf    (103   images approved)
0 = BigStock       ( 62   images)
0 = FP         ( 78   images)
0 = Albumo (39 images and removing one a day as there is almost zero view traffice there)
0 = Crestock (4 images and stopped uploading)

Good luck to everyone with the rest of January with 11 sales this is my BME up from 2 sales last month. Looks like its starting to ramp up for me

I have seen on several sites that "view" traffic picks up considerably on an image after it gets its first download. This is due to higher placement in the searches I imagine ...

Adobe Stock / Re: Problem Uploading to Fotolia
« on: January 29, 2008, 15:23 »
I've had no problems since I've started using the flash uploader other than the fact my last batches of 25 in a row were all rejected ... I finally got 3 approved which weren't photos ... just real simple Valentine illustration creations :(

So much for using the Flash uploader to get things up there ... They've got some sorta beast reviewing there now as opposed to a few months ago.

« on: January 28, 2008, 23:39 »
Having a BME at 123rf

November = 0
December = 0
January     = 3 (BME) only one of these was subscription

I am now up to 103 images there and will continue to upload as their Upload system is a breeze and their fast approval process of generally 14-16 hours rocks !

Crestock.com / Re: Any downloads?
« on: January 28, 2008, 01:04 »
I had so much problems with getting approvals at crestockthat I stopped after only 4 approvals. My time has been much better spent elsewhere.

By the way guys I'm loving DT and 123rf as I've had 9 sales between the two this month where I was at only 1 last month between the two. All in all my sales across all sites have been Nov 1, Dec 1, 11 January (BME) !!   No sales ever from Albumo, CS and FP (yet FP I get to set my own prices so I will continue to support them FOREVER and there is lots of view traffic at FP as opposed to Albumo and CS)

Good point Adelaide. I save my .tiffs in un-flattened format so that I can save the layers in case I want to make other creations or undo steps. I have noticed no noticeable degradation by saving NR as the last step and only applying it to the final .jpg image. NR can have a smoothing effect and I want to preserve the .tiff file in case I want to use it again in the future.

I use NR as needed at the end of post-processing since, post-processing itself generates noise. This is especially true if you do several stages of tweaking levels or hue/saturation w/o doing it in a separate layer. Also if sharpening is selectively applied, that in itself can generate huge amounts of noise if not carefully applied, so once again the benefit that if I feel NR is required, it comes as the final step in the entire process.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Most likely to go under

That's alot of images for only 1 sale ... I'll keep my eye on the forums to see if I hear them taking off though. Right now I'm still focused on trying to get approved at both SS and IS.

I post-process all photos even if it is just a minor levels or color curves adjustment. Noise Reduction with Neat Image only if needed.

Generally this is my process sometime with a minimum of at least usually one of the steps and sometimes more ...

#1 Save as .tiff
#2 Adjust levels (in a separate layer)
#3 Adjust Saturation / Hue as necessary (in a separate layer)
#4 Adjust Color Curves
#5 Crop as required
#6 Clone out Logos, Trademarks or Blur recognizeable faces w/o a model release
#7 Sharpen as necessary (always last task before saving)
#7 Save as .tiff w/ layers
#8 Save as .jpg with layers flattened
#9 Use Noise Reduction on .jpg as required

I hope this helps :)

Dreamstime.com / Re: Are we just unlucky?
« on: January 27, 2008, 17:11 »
1st sale  at DT in November
1    sale  at DT in December
6    sales at DT in January

I believe only one of all of the above was under .50
Two were sold for larger sizes so my take was $1.50 and another $2.00

DT is probably my favorite site overall :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Image resolution margins
« on: January 27, 2008, 12:48 »
More Megapixels = Larger print sizes as well as more room to crop :)

I noticed the difference even stepping up from 7.1 to 8.0 megapixels

I stopped uploading to Crestock after only 4 approvals there ...
I am giving up on Albumo as there is next to ZERO view traffice there ...
I have not submitted to LO due to all the negative things I've seen and heard on the various forums.

I will the 2nd the voice about supporting FP until it gets off the ground as it is a true site for the contributors :)

LONG LIVE FEATUREPICS !
