Oh goodie, it's turning into a Mac versus PC war.

I didn't think a smart phone was of much use until I bought one and started using it. I can't see going back to a flip phone for any reason. There will be dozens of competitive models released over the next few years if you don't like this one.

Too late to get in? I think it's too late to stay in.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Time Lapse Question -
« on: September 06, 2014, 22:38 »
If you're like me, your interest in time lapse photography will wear out long before your shutter will.

I think you should be able to create pans and zooms within your time-lapse if you have larger original file sizes. One advantage of shooting big.

[ iStock just took it and ran with it up to a high-priced level that exceeded what customers wanted to spend.

So now iStock has to come back down to earth, and that's because of SS? Absolutely wrong.

All this matters little when the people who control the amounts paid to us, seem wholly reluctant to share, in an equitable manner, the money collected on the sale of OUR WORK!!!!!

481
Normally I would just yank my stuff but in this rare case I'm leaving it put- for a while. I haven't uploaded any new material on iStockVideo for quite a while. Sales there have dropped to less than a dribble. It's pretty easy to get $75 or $100 for a sale on P5 and keep half of that. Why soil the well; or in this case, the Pond?

482
Knowing that size doesn't matter makes me kinda happy. ;)

483
I love (sarcasm here) the idea of the NEW CREDIT. My eyes are hurting from the smoke.

"No More Pricing by File Size"

Woah!

Sean, this is the real bomb shell of the whole letter, which contains more than a small amount of shrapnel.

I'm just a small producer but the sales of video for a buck or two through a "bug" or whatever you want to call it incensed me to no end. My solution was to "opt out" by deleting my portfolio and closing my account. That seemed to do the trick.

When something like this happens, the polite thing would be to issue a statement and let the producers know what is happening, so they don't get so damned pi$$ed.

486
It's been done before, without even rearranging lighting and objects or camera position, but you really need to contact istock to see if they will allow you to be one of those doing this, or not.
Why would  you need to contact IS about this?

I think the idea of exclusivity is dead, it's just waiting for a medical examiner to declare it as such. Until then people are going to hang to the hope that it will survive. "should I give it mouth to mouth", "where's the portable defibrillator?", "why's it twitching the way it is?", "what's that smell?".

Adobe Stock / Re: Opting out of video subs
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:19 »
I stopped uploading all Video immediately. Their problem if they do not want new material....
So there is no way to stop or opt out of their sub program? I get a lot of sub sales from SS but they are at the same price level as cart sales.

FOTOLIA is a sub par agency with behaviors in line with those of  deposit photos. I would run the other way as fast as you can.
Lacing up my trail shoes now. Thanks.

Here's hoping you know what to do about it.
The options are two fold, a) opt out if possible. b) delete portfolio.

Is this possible? I wasn't seeing any of these before, now I get sales for $1.60/$1.35... That  is just too low.

Anyone in, anyone have sales there?

If anyone is a contender to take on Getty, Offset has good chance. They have the money and the collection seems to be growing at a decent pace.

Seriously?

I should say that I don't think there is anything amiss with Shutterstock. I'm not sure what the discrepancies are, but I don't think they are malicious.

No, not malicious.  But it is a problem if sales are not being reported right for any reason.  Especially if many people reporting the same issue.

I guess what I'm saying, that you're not understanding, is that the problem me only be superficial and getting your knickers all bunched up over it isn't worth the time or frustration.

I asked shutterstock several weeks ago about apparent footage sales shown on the map, but didn't ever show up on the daily sales page.  They replied that when a customer downloads a purchased footage clip, after the initial sale, it still can show up on the map.

So if the buyer goes back to get the clip again for whatever reason, it shows on the map but they don't pay for it because they already have?

I see clips appear on that cute little map that shows where sales are made and I never see the cute little entry on the sales grid. I wondered about this lately.

Zeus, I don't remember ever seeing these suspect images showing up in the map.

Shooting good clips and doing decent post are two different things. Expect to invest heavily in time to get your clips looking proper.

General - Stock Video / Re: Revostock Payments
« on: August 18, 2014, 15:15 »
I did send a message to Craig around the time I posted the update to this thread. He got back to me quickly and made payment a couple days later. We had a nice offline chat.

He has had a pretty hard time with the patent troll suit and shows a good deal of tenacity by hanging on and continuing with the business. I see no reason to pull my portfolio now. Thanks.

What got my goat, is a $1.35 sub for a video. I can say with a lot of certainty that I am not going to sell video for $1.35.

I waited about 4 months for about a $190 payment and then sent them an email asking how much longer before I would be paid. They paid the next week. So, I wouldn't give up on them yet.

It's been over two months since I got that email and haven't seen anything yet. I can't recall how long since I made the first request for payment. If you get paid this time, will you get paid next time?
