Anyone wants to run some benchmarks?
I can run something on my PC (like a complicated PS action) and we can compare times, so we have a quantitative measure, not just anecdotal data.
go ahead
Ok, done. The test is from here and it contains both the file and the action: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/photoshop.phpMy overall result is 128.1 sec. My configuration (without the monitor) was 955 euro, which means I paid 7.45 euro for a second.

So far, so good! And this is even without the sub sales.
Wondering how much they'll bring.

Read this (long) thread about this issue - from 2010, and it wasn't the first time the issue came up.
http://www.microstockgroup.com/fotolia-com/fotolia-now-paying-less-than-16-!!!!!!/
Fotolia's strongest market is Germany - Euro paying customers. To the extent that the sales are made to USD receiving contributors they make out like bandits
Link's dead to me. And wow if they don't let you change your currency later. I'll write to support anyway and see if anything's changed.

Is there any way to change this (mailing support) or does one need to delete an account and reupload everything?

Bumpity-bump. Are people contributing to canva? Do you have results? I'm thinking of contributing, but don't want to waste time, so if anyone has anything to say, I'm all ears.

I don't get it, I still get 0.29 per subscription download (XL size).
I'm opted out of DPC.
Did I misunderstand something?

I think you can get by cheaper by buying a PC, or building a hackintosh.
My configuration:
Proc: Intel Core i7 4770 SSD: Samsung 840 EVO - 250 GB Storage: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 - SATA III 6 Gb/s - 2 TB Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 760 (2 GB) RAM: G.Skill Kit Extreme3 16 GB PC12800 Ripjaws X CAS10
Packed everything in the quietest case I could find, the CPU temperature is around 30 degrees, it's a joy to work and play (I upgraded like 10 days ago so I'm still surprised how fast it is, especially compared to my old computer) and you can barely hear the computer when it's on.
Anyway, if you're doing anything serious, an SSD and 16 GB of RAM is a must. And the strongest proc your money can buy. Cuda cores are a plus.

I found this a few moments ago on reddit: http://imgur.com/CqTGaDbSo I propose we do something similar for each agency and let the buyers know about the conditions contributors are in. However, I would make the title "smarter" and write it from a buyers perspective - Where MY money goes whenever I buy a $x image. This way it's a more direct message that they are indeed doing this. Because the agency can propose any rate they want - it's a free economy. It's up to contributors to determine if we want to contribute there or not. But it's also up to the buyers - do they want to buy from an agency that has low royalty rates? And then we put out a pie chart: 5$ agency - server upkeep and marketing, 1$ artist - researching, planning, shooting, editing, keywording, submitting. And maybe another pie chart showing how much time it takes for the agency to do all this (10%) and the artist (90%). It might be completely useless and it might change the mind of some buyers. Who knows. Thoughts?

Visible edges?
It might be due to the zoom. 12 images makes you zoom out more and PS sometime doesn't render things properly if you're zoomed out beyond a certain point. Have you tried zooming in?
Just a guess.

Opted out of DPC. Not because I think it will hurt them or that I have a high quality portfolio. I just don't approve of their business "ethics". I'm sure they'll find plenty contributors, some better than me, who will provide content. I don't care. I won't.
Thanks to everyone for being so vocal about it, as I am sure that I would miss this if it wasn't constantly on the top of the forum.
I'm also thinking of removing my portfolio from Fotolia, will review the option carefully as soon as I find some time.

How was it? For me, a drop of ~20% compared to March '14. Shutterstock accounts for 73% of earnings. I'm still waiting for PP (and IS subscription!) results... after those, I think the gap will be around -15% compared to last month. But I'll know that in around 3 weeks. Still, I like the overall trend:

PP for March is killer!
Well beyond my expectations.

If somebody is inflating their scores, which seems like what is happening, I would just remove them from the poll altogether.

After my first month on both CanStockPhoto and PD, I can say that I am more than pleased with their performance. BS always had bs sales for my portfolio and I don't like the way DP is being led, so I quit them. I wasn't worried about the impact of my decision on my earnings, since their combined earnings amount to 3% of my earnings, but I've thought of switching agencies just as an experiment, since I haven't really joined any in last time. Both CanStockPhoto and PD performed better than DP, with PD being 50% better. I like the site and regular sales and hope it continues. This is my experience so far.

Hey everyone, how was your last month?
For me, a BME (and by a wide margin) of around +70% with a portfolio increase of only 5% in the last month (and around 20% compared to the previous BME).
Shutterstock killed it. No, really. 78.1% of earnings with the RPD of 0.84$.
I'm waiting for PP results, but I don't hope that they will amount to anything. But, who knows.
Also, since I've dropped BigStock and DP, I have replaced them with CanStockPhoto and PD. They are both very good substitutes - not even comparable to BigStock (manyfold increase) and better for my portfolio than DP.

"- low light photography"
Nikon hands down. Get the D800e...
I didn't find any noticable differences in low light between d610 and d800e.. can you link the source for the difference? But yeah, there are three nikon FF bodies (D610, D800e, Df) which are similarly priced, and it's pretty hard to choose.

Hey everyone,
I used an APS-C pentax camera since 2008 and I feel like it's time to upgrade to FF. I have been checking different options in the last couple of days, and it seems that the decision boils down to two cameras: either canon 6d or nikon d610.
What I plan to use the camera for? Ideally, it should be an "all around" shooter. I don't shoot sports, landscape or anything (except microstock) professionally, so I don't really benefit from high burst-rates and this that a specialist in the field might need. However, there are a couple of things I would like to focus on:
- low light photography - native high dynamic range (without hdr) - realistic color representation (fidelity)
To explain the points. Low-light performance is important for me if I want to do street-photography at the night without using flash. I also plan to do a bit of astrophotography, so noise and color fidelity are pretty important (because I don't want to spend hours in post). Dynamic range is important to me just because I like the look of boosting the blacks and shadows, but keeping some of the detail in them. And it's always nice to avoid clipped highlights. Realistic color representation might be a more subjective criterion, but I'm looking for a more accurate representation of skin tones and, actually, all the colors that the sensor can capture.
I always shoot in raw, so I don't care about jpg performance, jpg noise reduction, jpg-based hdr's and things like that. In-camera effects are of no interest for me. If I want to do some post, I'll fire up photoshop. I care about native raw performance.
I don't plan on doing video, but you know, you never know. But it's not a priority by any means. So, based on this, which camera would you recommend? Would you scrap my suggestions and go with something else, like the Nikon Df (pretty!) or D800E (not that much more expensive than the d610)? Or maybe a Sony?
Let me know your thoughts. But please keep in mind that your criteria for choosing the "better" camera might not be the same criteria that I choose the "winner". 6d might be better in some cases, and d610 in other ones. This is not a nikon vs. canon pissing contest (I was a pentax user, so I'm really distanced from all that), so let's try to be polite towards each other and make some good recommendations! Fire away!

Is it even possible to make that much from 500-800 photos on SS? At all?
I know vector artists do better with less, but that's still a stretch for so few files. More power to them if they can manage it though.
Obviously not possible, but there always are virtual babies who believe any bs. Maybe several years ago...
I believe it is possible, with a portfolio that targets a specific niche, and is very high quality content. Some of my bestsellers on ss earn between 0.5$-3.5$ per day. Let's say the bestseller average is 1.5$/day. I would daily need to sell 67 of them to cross 100$ daily (and, hence, 3000$ per month). The difficult part is making a bestseller, which is dependent both on timing, keywording, image quality, the current design trend/look and luck. I'm not the lucky one/good enough to make it like this, but that does not mean that someone talented (and with a good business sense, supply/demand knowledge) would not be able to make it. So I cannot say for sure, but I think it could be possible.

Yeah, that was my first thought, the only problem being that I don't speak the official language, so it's pretty difficult to do administrative stuff. But yeah, maybe someone at SS would know. It's not an SS-only issue, though, it concerns all the stock agencies that I contribute to.

Hi all,
up to one year ago, I was living in a country that had/has no tax treaty with the US, so I just filled out my W-B8EN form every year and "lost" 30% of all my US sales.
In late 2013 I have moved to another country which does have a treaty with the US. I'm doing a PhD here, pay my income tax and social security here, so I believe I am a resident here. I'm wondering if that makes me eligible for using the tax treaty that the country has with the US? I don't have the countries passport or anything, but I work here and plan on staying for at least three years.
I tried to change my info in the SS tax center, but it seems locked, so I'm not sure.
If anyone has experience with things like these, let me know.
Thanks

SS an other sites should be dealing with this, not us, the contributors.
We found it, and that is enough. We get only around 30% royalty, it's time they did something other than spending millions for server upkeep, marketing and new office space.

Aaaand I come back to report: The isolations aren't even half bad. Certainly better than when I dabble at it. For people who will always remain more photographer than "digital artist": can recommend.
Care to show before/after? Or at least describe the starting photo - did it have a complex background or...

Here's another freaky little possibility: Contributors could use this to game the system. Think about it. You buy one of these gigs, and ask the guy to send you 20 of your own images. If you're in the $0.38 tier that's $7.60. You can bump up your earnings using fiverr. Or at least accelerate your rise through the ranks. At $0.25 you'd break even on the $5 investment.
Obviously I'm not suggesting anyone do it. It would severely put your contributor status at risk of permanent banning. But there are some less-upstanding contributors out there. I wouldn't be surprised if some are doing exactly this.
Yeah, I think SS would consider it weird that one contributor is downloading so many of your images and ban the both of you.

I don't understand how these guys make a profit...
If it's 5$ per day, it's 150$ per month, maximum. And they pay the subscription at least 215$/month (year plan). They are just selling their unused downloads?
