General Stock Discussion / Re: January 2008 Earnings Poll
« on: February 04, 2008, 17:59 »
I am happy to report that trying to reach $100, by joining SS, i made $310. this forum has been of enormous help for me. after all, i have been shooting pictures not a full year yet! to get to the modest level i am on now was both fun and a very hard work too. I still dread PS. the only tool i am comfortable is the Penn tool. I find anything else except cropping really intimidating: layers, masks.
And i do not want to learn them.

Computer Hardware / Re: What monitor type you're using

15'' toshiba laptop monitor. colors are fine after calibration, but size is not enough to be efficient with PS.

I'd be interested to know what everybody's average earning per download are on DT?  Mine is 1.25$ as I have quite a lot of higher level images.  This more than makes up for the subs as my average doesn't reach 1$ on any of the other sites I upload to.  Also every sub download I get brings that image nearer to a higher level so subs really don't bother me at all at DT.

mine average is $.94 per dld

some do well on FT if they arrange keywords properly, and if their portfolio matches  FT needs more closely. I can't think of other reasons.

IS   51% (BME, Up almost double)
SS   33% (BME, Up almost double due to EL)
FT   6% (BME, Up by 10%)
DT   4% (Down by over half)
StockXpert   2% (BME, Up almost double)
BigStock   1% (Down by half)
123RF   1% (Up by 50%)
SV   2% (Up by Double)
LO   <1% (Dying)
AB   0% (Dead)
FP   0% (Dead)

Istock is absolutely rocking. SS is doing very well. FT is growing slowly. StockXpert is finally waking up. The rest I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth my time uploading to anymore.

I am thinking the same that except SS, IS, FT, StockXpert , 123rf and DT uploading to other sites is a waist of time for me.

SS 60%
the rest: IS, FT, StockXpert , 123rf and DT.

with FT i have had three problems: rejections due to bad lightning. they were right, i was wrong. No more rejections due to bad lightning. rejections of backgrounds: I can't predict and I can't understand how they evaluate which background is suitable for them and which is not. Still most are accepted. Third is low payments per dl. If StockXpert will start producing much more dls than FT, I will stop uploading to FT because of the low payments per dl. their pricing is not fair.

« on: January 31, 2008, 06:21 »
for someone doing microstock full time for more than 1 year - 30-40k a year is very low. ...
That's not really true - if it was that easy to make $30k+ then everyone would be doing it, and nobody would be jumping on threads like this one at SS with "how did you do it" questions. I'd say that perhaps 15% of microstock photographers make more than $30k annually, and all but a few have been doing it for more than one year.

that is correct. If making 30,000 with photography will be that easy problems in the developing world would have been solved by giving out P&S cameras to the populace.

Very interesting analysis Andresr:) I think at one stage the only way to increase $ is to gradually move pictures from microstock (avoiding sites with purely  sub sales) to midstock. Quite a lot of agencies are present on this market now and they pay  in Euros : I am thinking about  mostphotos, zoonar,panthermedia......
L

I think too that moving to midstock sites makes sense. Let sites with subs envy midstock growth. Should we have a  section devoted to midstock only discussion ?

i voted. My sub sales are 11% total (in numbers) this month.

I am with StockXpert about 12 days or so and just 2 sales with 300 images. Probably I have to wait a bit. What do you think?

I think you will get much more than that. I've now 4 sales this month with approx. 30 photos. And I think your stuff will in general get more attention sales.

With my limited experience I would think it is really about getting the traffic, files seems to jump once they get downloaded and jump up for a moment in the search.

StockXpert quickly proved your point, Danicek. 3 downloads today and the day is just half over.

I asked them about the slowdown they replied it was slow since the holidays. Apparently BS customers are rich and can allow themselves extended vacations.

I had a goal of $100, but thanks to joining SS has made $207 so far. without SS the count is $73.

Congratulation again. It's hilarious, I have more than an hundred pictures there now and have only 1 sale this month... ::) HA I hate Fotolia :)

I had the  same feeling for FT until a month and half ago when the sales started for me. I am on Ft since Sept 22 2007. May be you have to wait a bit.

New Sites - General / Re: Who has most potential for 2008
« on: January 22, 2008, 19:24 »
Will over 5000 images in my portfolio I think I can make a statistically sound prediction.... :) Among the new ones, I would vote for SnapVillage, LuckyOliver and .... umm.... well... Crestock (although their 25c subscription sales is what carrying them forward right now, I don't see it lasting or leading to serious growth).
As to the Bigstock, my sales there are 30% down of that it used to be. Nice site, but they do need to invest in advertising more and attracting traffic. Sadly, Canstockphoto is 50% down of what it used to be... same problem there seems like.

Among the "big-6" ones, Istock is ahead of the game, followed closely by Fotolia. SS is a disappointment - still selling, but I do see a noticeable decline. 123RF has been doing better and better, I would hold hopes for them too. Both DS and SX are consistent, not doing worse, but not doing any better. I wish they showed a bit more of a growth.

Elena,
please repeat this stats analysis from time to time.  It is much more accurate that all other predictions, guesses, bias, foretelling  and hidden advertising.

alright, they kept their word. reviewing is done. 313 out of 464 images have survived the reviewing  and now online.

Mine are almost always reviewed within 24 hours but I never upload more than 10 at a time.  Maybe that's the secret.  Also make sure that they are all keyworded, titled etc because the one time I forgot to do this they sat there a couple of days until I noticed and then once they were done they were reviewed within hours.

all my images have been keyworded and titled. Anyway, I got reply from the support and right now they are actively reviewing. I was told that all images will be reviewed by the end of the day. I think part of the mess was that my id starts with v which put me at the end of the queue of the newbies.  Good to know that if I submit 10 images they will be reviewed in 24 hours.

Hmmm, I had two batches of 15 go through today with only one reject between them ... perhaps you should send them an email.

I just sent mail to the support. It is actually my third mail  to them about review time since January 6th.

they stated finally reviewing  my images. I see 7 online, 412 pending. I do not now how to view rejects. Do they send mail about rejects ?

Still only 7 online and now 464 pending ! I am surprised how  slow is reviewing at StockXpert. Very frustrating.
