Dreamstime.com / Re: Shortcut on DT

THANKS!!!!  That really works??  I have ALWAYS hated scrolling to tick that box at the bottom.

Seriously, thank you.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: what macro-lense should I choose?
« on: March 26, 2009, 22:45 »
I like one in the 100mm range.  Workable.

Very strange indeed.

No back sales for several weeks (even months)
Someone complains in the Forum
Rash of backup sales (at 0.05 cents per)

Will someone complain about 5 EL's days!!!!

I only load upsized to Alamy. The upsizing requirements by Alamy to me is quite the joke, as skilled print professionals and designers will do a much better job of it.

I agree.  In today's world, printers know exactly what they need, let them decide.  About half of the dozen images I've sold are at the lower sizes anyways.  So now the buyer has an upsized image that has been downsized by Alamy - sloppy IMHO.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sell someone other's pictures?

Possible - yes.  Practical - no.  Way too many legal issues and paperwork hassles (IMHO) to make it worthwhile.

Adobe Stock / Re: another thief or what?

This image isn't just similar, it's exactly the same image.  Copying ideas is one thing, but this is something else entirely.

Lower ID# wins.

General - Top Sites / Re: Is iStock worth the effort?
« on: March 16, 2009, 17:54 »
Yeah I agree.  Patience there WILL pay off.

IS is now my number one monthly site, and my number one overall site.  Been at this 2 1/2 years now with a portfolio there of nearly 1200 images.  It will payoff.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Current IS review time
« on: March 16, 2009, 17:47 »
Review time is usually around a week for me. Rejections have gotten a little better now that I rekeyword every image just for IS and am only submitting my best stuff. I was trying to submit everything but at 15 photos a week I would never catch up.

Umm, thats what I have to do too.  Get the keywords to between 8-12 and submit there.  Sales are stellar though!!!

High Rejection Rate + Low Commission Pay = No Activity by Me (at Crestock).

Very BAD formula for success.

Hey Stephen,

IS has become my number one monthly earner, and has even become my number one overall earner.  The reviews have been taking 6-7 days for me.

Good luck and welcome back (to IS).

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime - Is it time to leave
« on: March 13, 2009, 23:24 »
It's funny.  Having read through some of these posts I have never really realized how good DT actually is.  I mean sales are okay, but the site itself and the whole process and experience is totally first rate.  It's one of those sites that just keeps quiet but does what it's supposed to do, day in and day out.

Funny after reading these posts, but I have come to realize that DT is a really good site.  And I've been there 2 1/2 years.  Thanks DT.

« on: March 12, 2009, 00:27 »
I think prices are trending up.  Maybe $10 per image is a starting point.

Adobe Stock / Re: Can't get Fotolia to load...
« on: March 11, 2009, 10:49 »
I've been getting a "server busy" message several times in the last few days.  Only been able to get through a very few times.

Id need reviewers for my own site I think. Or I risk getting tons of trash uploaded :-[

Now thats funny!!!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Anyone have a best day of the week?
« on: February 27, 2009, 20:07 »
For a month with only 28 days I am having a BME.  iStock has really kicked butt this February.  Had a BDE yesterday with over 70 dl's.  I think I like what they're doing there.

Canon 30D with a couple of L lenses.

Don't you hate it when one of the 1,000,000 monkey writers out there try their hand at some subject which they barely know and hype it as in-depth.  He admits he doesn't know much about microstock at the end of the piece.  WHAT???  Then why write about it at all if the monkey knows nothing about the industry.

Just another case of the stock boys looking back and not some hobbyist photographer looking forward.  Look out, here we come, FAST!!!

MIcrostock opportunities all around - inside and outside.  Just think commercially, not fine art.

Newbie Discussion / Re: why is Alamy only one to provide RM?
« on: February 11, 2009, 01:31 »
I find it funny that the Mid-Stock/MacroStock sites often have rather arcane (old) upload and image requirements, than those found on MicroStock sites.  Usually no ftp uploading; upsizing to a minimum file size (50mb); only accept from certain cameras.

It seems crowdsourcing microstock sites are ahead of the game.

Stopped uploading, and stopped hoping for many sales.

Had a few decent months with a payout, then it dried up.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Time to cull your portfolio's..
« on: February 03, 2009, 18:39 »
Bad Idea.

Just had a zero seller, oldie garner a $31 Enhanced License.  I think I'll keep the oldies around awhile.

Besides, oldies get "pushed to the back" eventually and don't get much attention under the best match at IS.

My two cents, or $31 !!!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is a photo of a map legal?
« on: January 23, 2009, 11:20 »
How long is the copyright valid?  I believe 75 years protection is afforded under printed copyright.  Thereafter, once the copyright expires, the material is in the public domain.
