It all depends on quality. I started in 2010 and the majority of my videos I filmed in the first 2 years have never sold. The last two years I really increased the quality of my videos and I learned a lot about what sells and what doesnt.
So today I can be almost sure that about 30% of my new videos will sell in the first 3 months. But as I said, it takes time to learn and improve.
And about 10% of my portfolio produce 90% of my earnings.

Hej Fredrik.
It will take time to earn money with footage. Just keep uploading more footage and try to improve and learn to shoot better footage. On some agencies it really takes time for videos to get sales and climbing the search ranks. I have videos that have not sold in the first year but then they took off and are now my bestsellers. And on Pond5 the statistics dont really work most of the time. I have videos that have 0 views but have sales.
Just keep shooting.

@Mantis This high rejection rate is really terrible. Thank you for telling us. I wont upload to them until this changes. I have a slow internet connection and so I have a limit on how many agencies I can upload.
In my priority list P5 drops down every day. I loved them in the past but that is over. My earnings stay the same at P5, while on several other agencies I increase my earnings. Even on Fotolia I get at least one or two sales of a new video batch within a week or two. The review times at P5 and the high rejection rates lately put me off uploading to them since last october. Really sad.

Yes, it is sad. I would love to use optical flares and Element 3D for stock videos.

@PhotoDude This crap applies to VideoHive as well. Envato is not a sister company of Videohive. All marketplaces they have are simply all "Envato".

Not worth it. You will get a few sales for sure, but than several of them will get refunded.
I would concentrate on producing more video and only upload to the better agencies.
But if you want to upload your portfolio to low earning sites there are better options like 123rf, Pixtastock, MotionElements. Canstock was worth it two years ago but video sales have dried up. The same for Clipdealer.

Did that several times a few years ago and I never saw increased sales.

I do animations with After effects and camera footage. A general answer about what sells better is impossible to make. It depends on quality of the content. First I would look at agencies of what kind of animations are best selling as an orientation.

I may be wrong but I think these sub/membership things will be the future. I will stay relaxed and when I cant make a decent amount of money somewhere in the future I will move on to something different than stock footage.

Yes, they send a sales notification email for every sale.

For me it is like this with about my average portfolio size on every agency.
good month: about 3$ per clip bad month: about 2$ per clip
But I have a slow internet connection, so I only upload the best. I am pretty sure my numbers would more be like 0,5$ per month per clip if I uploaded every video. And to newer agencies I only upload proven sellers.

As I started in late 2009 I am not sure if I have "old" content. But I still sell videos every month for the first time ever, that I upladed in 2010/2011 and I never would uplad today. And on some agencies my newer and defenitely better videos dont sell at all. It is all about where your videos/photos are placed in the search engine.

I see from your multiple threads that you do lots of thinking and analyzing. Lots of your questions cant really be anwered as everybody has different experiences.
The best advice I can give to you is : Stop thinking too much and shoot as much as you can to upload. After one year of heavy producing and uploading you can start thinking about improvements.

I thought it was said by fotolia subs are no longer available but there are a few old active subscriptions but these will slowly run out. I hope I remember correctly. The occasional subs sale should disappear soon.

Just logged in to see I have a negative balance after payout request. So I guess my latest video sale got a refund as well.

But I went down from a few sales every month to zero about 18 month ago so I am not even sure every sale got reported.

Same here like dnavarrojr. Got approved about a year ago but never uploaded anything. I know they have sales and I am loosing this money. But there is something about dissolve I dont like.
I upload my videos pretty much to almost every site. It is only Istock that I closed my account with because I was so annoyed by them.
And somehow I dont want do upload to dissolve.

I think the most people who earned much on Revo were not footage sellers. The most sales at Revostock were After effects templates.
