Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe/Fotolia sales volatility
« on: November 30, 2017, 11:18 »
I watch the rankings from time to time which seems to say a lot.  My ranking has swung by as much as 4000 from week to week.  It's the highest it's ever been at the moment though.

If it weren't for Matt Hayward from Fotolia/Adobe I would entirely agree.   But he's very likely the last photographer working for any of the agencies and not just a stuffed suit, so we are very lucky to have him.

Dreamstime.com / DT Refund
« on: November 22, 2017, 11:24 »
Don't you just love it when sales have become sooo bad.... like very close to -100% bad.....   and you get a refund for $6.44 and it takes you to a negative balance for the month?

I rarely follow up on these things... but I looked for the sale.  This photo hasn't been download since 2016 and never for $6.44.

Do they remove all traces of both the sale and refund?

It looked to me like they are using gps data from back in the old days when I used to bother putting a photo location on their map.. those old places are all in the custom list that I get.  I didn't even buy a gps for last camera, at one time it seemed important but now I really don't care....

5 years?   Oh, I guess you weren't here for the royalty slashes and the very public statement "Money isn't going to be what makes us happy" response, were you?

Newbie Discussion / Re: i wish i had that model release, lol

That's too bad.  That specific model is probably dead by now so you will never get that signature.

One question above, yes you can withdraw $U.S. at certain bank machines. I have an account at PC and I think it's 300 U.S. daily at certain machines.  Rate was better at BMO, but not as convenient.  But next month PC changes their name and is fully operated by CIBC, a bank I never had great experience with.  They say nothing will change but I kinda think the PC No Fees experience will soon disappear.

I do manage to spend most of my $U.S. Paypal earnings on supplies that I order from the U.S. already.  I've also paid Expedia for hotels.  I always look for U.S. Vendors that accept Paypal.

What about the sites that work with Payoneer?  I haven't heard much talk about them lately (I looked into them a few years back and didn't like their overall rates).  Can they put U.S. earnings on a credit card or do they convert it first?

Since someone revived this post....  A jet hit a drone this week in Quebec.  It didn't bring it down but it really agitated Canada's Transportation Minister.  If a goose can bring down a jet, so can a drone.  I don't really see licensing as a money grab by governments, the owners of these things really need the education that comes with getting a license.  The only thing worse than losing a loved one in a crash would be the burden of guilt of uneducated drone operator who brought down the aircraft because they didn't know they were too close to an airport or flying too high.

I phoned Paypal and they told me they cannot deposit U.S.$ into a Canadian U.S.$ account.    (This wasn't recently though.)

One time, I even went to BMO Branch to pay my BMO U.S.$ credit card with a wad of U.S$ cash in my hands and they wouldn't take it because they would lose on  the rate.  (Mind baffling isn't it?)  I had to deposit it into a CDN$ account and pay conversion fees then pay the fee to convert it back to U.S.$ and yes, I said f*You and made the teller call and cancel the card before I left the bank.

The RBC workaround may have been to a U.S. branch with an arm operating in Canada.  I've worked for many businesses that never had these stupid issues (but they also had a U.S. Delaware company registered to do business in the U.S.)

You CAN physically go to the U.S.$ and open up a bank account though.  If you lived on a border town it would definitely be worth it.

At least you'll be able to cash out when it clears....  I don't sell anything there and have been sitting with a balance of $45 - I think it needs to be $50 before payday.

A flashdrive of images has quite a lot of value in itself.  It would take forever to download and organize 250 photos, especially if there's daily limits etc.  But then - that puts more work on your side also.

Do you get the black banner on top with the Welcome Oscar box?  A week or two ago every time I clicked to check stats it said Hello Ivan (or similar man's name.  Nope, not a dude.)

Re the contest it does say (before upload instructions)
Are you an obsessive-compulsive perfectionist? We're only joking. Keep calm and love details.
You might be the winner of a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet, $200 (second place) and $100 (third place) along with a branded t-shirt

I know last week in the middle of the night the website was a lot more modern with sliding photos within category boxes.  (I seem to recall Brittney or some celebrity in one box).

Or maybe it was a dream, back to normal when I got up.

I know one thing that is not a dream....  currently having the poorest month yet, although in 2017 some months made me think they were on the brink of improving a bit.

You hear us whine about diminishing individual returns at DT a lot, I believe they are a pretty stable company.  Have never had a late payment.  Are always super responsive.  I believe it is more of a surplus of supply that is affecting our individual sales than lack of sales.

Well, congratulations!   There's 50 cents in your pocket.... or should I say in your great grandchildren's pocket when your account has reached payout. :P

I often find that when you reach that point of complete frustration with DT you will get a flurry of credit sales.  Just enough to keep them interesting.

Funny how a dozen credit sales at DT trump 100 sub sales here and most of the other sites.

I find it more profitable to comment on forums than to shoot stock these days.

I used to defend DT on this point ($100 min) but now that are sputtering out they really need to be more fair.    I'm lucky that I do get occasional cashouts thanks to some kind of grandfathered status, but it seems like anyone from last couple years can't break into semi-frequent sales.

I know my last reject was  something like "must be legible".  Only thing that can't be read is her signature.  Automatically disqualifies - what - 95% of model releases?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Bigstock a waste of time?
« on: May 29, 2017, 19:07 »
This is my last month.  A staggering 6 May sales.  If they were credit sales it might be worth it, but not for $1.62.

No need to plump up a subscription site that can't sell.  Subs never entirely bothered me when I was selling dozens or hundreds a day, but nowadays when you can go days or weeks without even one sub.... meh, good riddance.

I find very little $ difference these days with SS being down vs SS being up.

Thank you for your interest in my work; however I am afraid that my rates do not come within your budget.  My design fees are based on several years education and expertise and as an artist, professional and business owner and I would be sacrificing professional work to accept this project.   I do however know an up and coming young designer who I believe may be willing to work within your budget.  My son is a grade 10 design student at the John Smith High who is the top of his graphic design class.  Since it would be his first assignment, may be willing to work for the exposure and possibly a case of Twisted Teas.  Would you like him to contact you?

Yay!!!! but it is still only worth 38 cents!!!!
