Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: Symbiostock Sales POLL
« on: July 27, 2013, 17:33 »
My site been up a couple of weeks and just noticed one of my images ranked 7 on a google search for 'ocean blue background' right next to SS and IS images. And my site seems to have 680 external backlinks.

Hi zeamonkey,

I've read some times ago an old post about websense and their potentially damaging content

You can go on trendmicro site

http://global.sitesafety.trendmicro.com/result.php

you need to submit your url and to make a reclassify request on "photo searches category".

It can help for websense categorizing.

On trendmicro my site is not even classified yet....but i have submitted my url with clarification. Thanks for the hint!

MSG name: zeamonkey
website: Outdoor Stock Photos
url: stockphotos.sorenegeberg.com
your photo topics: outdoor lifestyle, adventure, winter sports, mountains, climbing, underwater, tropical travel, golf. About 1000 images
what  you're looking for: Outdoor and travel to compliment my own collection.

Ive sent a support ticket to Dreamhost for now regarding the issue, so will see what they say. Untill then add by .csv file please.

FYI: When I tried to access your website, it was blocked by Websense.

Here is the message:

"This Websense category is filtered: Potentially Damaging Content. Sites in this category may pose a security threat to network resources or private information, and are blocked by your organization."

Maybe this is the reason istock has lowered their standards for images....they are preparing for iphone submissions?
iStock is accepting mobile phone images since a long time, I think since fall 2012. So this is no news.
Indeed....but the lowering of quality for acceptance is new....

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Processing Error?
« on: July 25, 2013, 13:18 »
I have the same problem on Dreamhost, and now this:

Fatal error: Call to a member function get_error_message() on a non-object in /home/dykningithailand/stockphotos.sorenegeberg.com/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock_image_processor.php on line 1127

Have tried re-stalling the theme, but doesnt change anything. Any solutions?

And now files dont show up in the process folder either. Tried uploading through symbio and ftp. Same result...stuck!

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: No links to my site?
« on: July 25, 2013, 10:09 »
I've added your site to http://symbiostock-search.com database

something's strange though - there's no version listed in your symbiocard.xml file.  the rest of the data looks fine

Yes I noticed that as well. No new updates were showing for the theme on WP, despite I was on an old version. So I downloaded the latest version and installed it myself, just keeping all my old CSS files not to loose the formatting.

There have been, and likely will be updates coming.  If you have a lot of CSS files/ changes you should be using a Child theme, not the main theme.  check out  http://www.symbioguides.com/  for details.

My css changes are done. Im not gonna change to childtheme now. Im quite happy just keeping my current css files  :)

google's WMT is not the best tool for checking backlinks.
try http://moonsy.com/backlinks_checker/

I tried this one, same result 0 Backlinks, despite I ahve place links on G+ and other websites i run. Guess it just needs more time to get indexed.

« on: July 25, 2013, 00:54 »
Checking on webmastertools, it shows no data for any links to my site. Is there something I havent activated? Can see on the list of symbiosites, that mine is the only one without a version number.

I have just launched my stock site so impossible to tell at this point. However, the people that pin my images wud never ever have paid for them anyway, so I see it as free advertizing. My photos on pintrest are watermarked, description states its a stock photo and the link to my website is right under the image. Everything counts toward my google ranking and better exposure on google image search.
The more people that gets exposed to my photos and my website, the better. Nobody is making money from my photos on pintrest, so i don't see a problem. Ive seen my photos from flickr all over pintrest for a long time already and those photos still sell well on microstock.

I just started too, about two weeks ago but I can see people coming from Facebook and Twitter (referrer at site stats). That's why I'm asking if Pinterest is really giving you traffic and exposure.
And like I sad, the problem is that you lose control over your image. On Facebook, Twitter, G+ etc you can anytime delete your image if you change your mind. On Pinterest you can't.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to convince you. Just trying to figure out if benefits weigh out the risks.
I think it doesnt matter where we post our photos, be it pintrest, facebook, flickr or where ever, they will get shared all over the internet. So rather than someone grabs it directly from my website by a screengrab or otherwise, Id rather control things as much as i can from the beginning, so my links and descriptions follow the images when its being shared. The moment someone use a screengrab, the photo is orphan with no way to identify it or its origin and it doesnt have any benefit for my SEO.

In the end it all comes down to one thing, that images has to be seen to get sales. If nobody sees your images because you are scared to let them gain exposure one way or the other, then they will never sell. If this is the way to do it, time will tell. Everyone should do as they see fit.

Its all comes down to SEO and how Google rank our images in searches, influenced by twitter, pintrest, G+ and other social outlets. If people wanna pin my watermarked photos with the link to my stock site and telling google to rank it higher in the process, they are very welcome. Each to their own. ;)

Every photo you pin on pintrest from your symbio site, provides a backlink to your stock photo site. Pintrest has lots of designers on there, so if you dont think this has any value, dont do it.

Thats a big question. Jump on Creative Live now and watch the Social Media Bootcamp. Will give you some insight on how to generate traffic and links using the social media platform.

I've added a social sharing widget to my site, but when sharing photos from the Symbio site, only thumbnails are shared, not full photos.

Is this a problem in Symbio or the widget?

What version of theme do you have installed?

The latest 2.5.5
  latest is 2.5.6
Either way, it was a memory issue with imagemagick, not the theme. Increased PHP memory on the server and restarted fastCGI. Working now, but still with the error message. I'll live with that.

okay had a friend fix the bug in Imagemagick and things are running now. But still get this error msg: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/dykningithailand/stockphotos.sorenegeberg.com/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/network-manager/network-manager.php on line 915

Which according to him , a theme error.

72
someone else on dreamhost found this useful - http://wiki.dreamhost.com/ImageMagick_and_imagick_php_module_on_shared_hosting

Thanks, but tht goes way beyond my programming knowledge.....

73
increase the memory...still get this error msg:

Process Images

Insufficient memory (case 4) `/tmp/magick-XXStOfxk' @ error/jpeg.c/EmitMessage/237

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/dykningithailand/stockphotos.sorenegeberg.com/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/network-manager/network-manager.php on line 915

74
If some are still in processing are you may be uploading in non sRGB
I would still check you php.ini and see if it needs increasing
Doubt that is the problem. Cant even upload a single photo now. Shows uploaded 100%, hit process...no file.

75
After hitting process, all photos are gone, but after reloading the page some are still in the processing area, the rest are just gone from the site.
