July was a really bad month for me at SS, even CS outperformed SS  :-\

52
Last batch got rejected for: At this time, we are not accepting images that contain large amounts of foreign text.

Not sure how to translate buildings outside English speaking countries to English and also how does a customer ever find it if not using the original name. Like Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore has to be basilica of Saint Mary Major? Yeah kudos to the customer who comes up with that while searching for it.

I'm also taking a break from uploading to SS, not worth the effort if everything gets rejected for some bs reason.

Sales are pretty diverse for me, the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East, but most of them are from Europe and sales slowed down here as well.

Me three.
The reasons are getting stranger and stranger. Some of the images sold instantly at 2 other agencies.
I don't request for a 2nd review, which is such a waste of my time.

A Chinese company, JK Imaging, required the rights to use the name Kodak on their products.

This explains why I'm only getting subs nowadays and earnings are way behind normal.
I'll wait for payout and pull my port from FT.

Don't know about Windows 8, but beware of the blue screen of death in 7.
Hopefully they fixed it in 8.

You know that something weird is going on when FT accepts all your landscapes and SS rejects them all  :o
Usually it's the other way around.

I've been using iMacs and MacBook Pros for quite some time now and would continue to do so. I do image and footage processing with my Mac.
If I were looking to upgrade my system it would be an iMac with the 3TB Fusion Drive and with the 27" screen, because of the user accessible memory slots.
I use 4TB and 2TB network drives for backups. Also a laptop for memory card backup and cloud backup when traveling.

« on: January 11, 2014, 11:49 »
It's pretty rewarding if you can capture meteorites, well for yourself, doesn't seem to have a big market for shots like that.
I have images and time lapses of meteorites, even with northern lights in the background, sales are disappointing to say at least ;D

If you don't like SS don't upload there anymore. Nobody is forcing you,

I started out with SS, after some time I contributed to other agencies as well. I'm pretty glad I did it that way.

Off Topic / Re: Dust magnets
« on: January 05, 2014, 04:46 »
I have a nikon d 600 and it is full of snot and dust.
But the sensor outclasses anything, so ill stick to it.
Maybe clean it. It needs done.

The D600 is/was notorious for oil (from the aperture blades?) and dust, particularly the bodies in the initial release; don't know if that is still an issue.

Supposed to be solved in the D610.

FWIW my rejections were wildlife (African) and landscape (European).

Just got a 100% rejection as well. It seems SS is a waste of time to upload nowadays. Too bad.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Sigma or Canon lens kit?
« on: November 23, 2013, 04:16 »
Depending on your budget:
Sigma 18-35 f/1.8
Sigma 18-50 f/2.8
Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (without stabilizer)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Winter of our discontent
« on: September 11, 2013, 10:13 »
If I understand well microstocks:
(But as I am new I surely don't understand well)

- Summer is bad because customers are in vacation
- Fall is bad because customers are tired of the vacation and they need to take time to take back some energy.
- Winter is not so good because it is cold and customers are frozen
- Spring aaah spring is fantastic but some have allergies Achoo!

Seriously: I don't think that seasons have a lot of effect on sales.
But I am sure that the general trend on microstock is worse every day.

Summer is supposed to be the worst, and that's perfectly logical because it's vacation time all over the world. Then it picks up again at autumn... but I was getting BME after BME in the summer months this year without uploading, and now with fall coming, my sales are actually lower, despite uploading lots of good stuff. The answer is in all kinds of search shuffles I guess. SS definitely has some kind of cycles / balancing act for old/newer stuff, and contributors.

Same here, July BME and August 2nd BME across the board. But September seems to be very disappointing so far, plus I only seem to sell old stuff at Shutterstock lately.

Adobe Stock / Re: My images always refused by fotolia
« on: July 03, 2013, 07:32 »
I can't quite grasp agencies anymore. Lately FT is accepting everything I sent them, while Bigstock rejected 50% of my last batch (same images accepted everywhere else)

« on: June 29, 2013, 16:43 »
Lucky for me I've been saved from WME by a customer who bought 4 images simultaneously, too bad all of them were subscriptions, in fact all of my sales at DT this month were subscriptions  >:(

My last sale has 0 views, don't think you should care about views on yay.

Unless I earn a 5 figure income every month in microstock, I can't afford to give up my day job.

I'm sure anyone of us would do the same thing if you would be offered a good deal, regardless whether you hate IS for the Google deal or not. It's not like you're selling your soul to the devil although some probably would think so.

Good earner for me, but again it depends on the content of your portfolio.

It takes a while before images sell on DT, it's a low earner for me. I seem to have a portfolio that's not very suitable for DT.
