General Stock Discussion / Model Release Query

Hi,
Is there a minimum age for the witness of a model release signature?
Can a teenager sign as the witness?
Thanks

123RF / What's the best uploading method for 123RF?
« on: May 16, 2013, 02:03 »
Thanks, I didn't spot that option. But now my initial submission of 10 files are in the Pending queue, one of them was intended as an editorial and It doesn't look like there's any way to change it.

As somebody making their first submission to 123, I agree with original post and find the interface extremely unhelpful.

Can anyone tell me how I intentionally nominate an image to be Editorial?

And also, are there any ramifications if you leave the 'consider for editorial if rejected' box ticked, (other than the obvious, that the image may become editorial :-/)

Thanks

This is a shame.

I hope some happy PC users make a donation.

Would love to be able to use this on my Mac - it's a very useful program indeed!

General Stock Discussion / High sales vs high commissions
« on: April 23, 2013, 14:19 »
Every time I give away sell an image for 25c, 33c, 8c ...or for whatever ridiculously low subscription price I feel slightly sick, as this happens frequently throughout the day I'm beginning to think that stock photography is making me ill  ;)

LOL - funny doesn't do this justice - if you could sell comedy on microstock, you'd be rich.

DepositPhotos / Re: Keywords
« on: April 20, 2013, 09:10 »
PS .... is keyword 'phrasing' useful?

How is that better than have all keywords separate?

And if it is useful, do you use the phasing plus the separate individual words as well?

I had this problem too - very annoying.

Not a great work around, but I realised it was easier to delete all the problem files, re-keyword and upload again!

CanStockPhoto.com / Menus are NOT in English!
« on: April 20, 2013, 06:07 »
Yikes - I was on the Canstock site, everything was fine, but then I seem to have clicked on something and now all the menus have changed into another language.

Anyone know how to revert back to English ???

I've looked all over and even tried a computer re-start but it's still not in English.

Thanks

General Stock Discussion / Alphabetical Keywords
« on: April 18, 2013, 09:50 »
Novice newbie here ....

I'm Keywording in Adobe Lightroom and keywords are exported in Alphabetical order - is that sufficient and standard practice?

Would there be any benefit to ordering keywords in terms of relevance/importance or is that just nonsense?

I know that Fotolia gives you the option to re-order the keywords, but that is seriously laborious and time consuming!

Many thanks

Dreamstime.com / After SUBMIT button
« on: April 18, 2013, 09:40 »
Hi,

Have I got this right please .....

After you hit the SUBMIT button ....

the image just completely disappears from everywhere, until at some point in the future when it reappears in again in your 'online files' (after approval).

Thanks

Crestock.com / Is it Worth it?

Does anyone have anything even remotely good to say about Crestock?

I was surprised this thread did not run for longer and the wiki that Leaf created has not been added to....

http://www.microstockgroup.com/wiki/index.php?title=Digital_Release

I have Easy Release on my phone, but seeking a little extra reassurance before using instead of paper release.

Is it safe to assume that since Digital releases are now acceptable for iStock, Getty & Alamy then surely they must be acceptable everywhere else?

Has anybody had a digitally signed Release rejected from anywhere?

Are you now using them?

Thanks

Thanks, will give this a try tomorrow.

I'm pretty new to this, but sometimes I get the impression that these people (agencies) must just get a real kick out of making contributors miserable!

Pond5 / Can't Find My Portfolio
« on: March 28, 2013, 16:26 »
I find this site really confusing to navigate and now I've completely lost my portfolio!!!

I was looking at it about 20 minutes ago, now I can't find it again - tried nearly all the buttons - where's it gone???

The only images I can see are the ones pending - which have been there for about two weeks - how long does it take?

Anybody make any money here?

Phew, this business is exhausting!!!

thanks

Hi,

Is there a list anywhere of which agencies require a unique Model Release for each and every shoot with the same model versus which agencies will accept one generic release per model?

Also, does this depend on whether the Release itself is 'generic' or specific to a shoot?

And lastly, is any of this different for Minor Models?

Many thanks in advance

Interesting posts thanks.

I'm not anti-microstock really, on the contrary, I'd like to make it work for me :)

I'd just like to understand the Math and figure out if it's really feasible to make a return especially if you fork out loads of wonga on production?

I just re-read John Lunds 2011 interview with Yuri and indeed, its not clear whether the RPI figures in question 11 (ish) are yearly or monthly.

http://blog.johnlund.com/2011/01/yuri-arcurs-leading-microstock.html

If its monthly, then clearly that helps with the Math quite considerably.

On the other hand, it does lead to yet another curios . where on earth do all these downloads actually get used?

75
Approximately, what do you think your current annual RPI is?

If Im not mistaken, even somebody as prolific as Yuri Arcus is only claiming an annual RPI of about $5 these days.

So how does that work?

Yuri pays, expensive model fees, stylists, makeup artists, location fees, travel costs, props, retouchers, keyworders, uploaders, etc etc and more.

After a days shoot, he has maybe what 50 unique images to sell?
(or more?)

Based on 50

50 images at $5 RPI = $250/year

x 5 year life = $1250

This is surely a massive financial loss!
Or is my Math all wrong?
Wheres the profit?

I can just about understand that if you keep production cost to zero (dont pay models, blag locations, borrow props etc) and still produce first class images, then possibly/maybe I can see a modest living to be made. However, and Im genuinely intrigued, how can the big boys (and girls) spend all that money on production?
