Featurepics is really only a viable option if you have your own website and you want to redirect sales back to them.

I noticed that your container ship vector is selling for ten credits at iStock where you are going to receive just 20% so at the most $2.60 but less with bulk purchases of credits.
Whereas 50% of 10 credits at StockXpert is $5 so a better deal If you are going to spend that much time on a vector it might be better to just submit rasterized versions but if you have your own website. You can sell eps files at Featurepics and you can set the price $20 and receive $14 for the full price comparison check out this table 56
Dreamstime.com / Re: what happens when you submit exclusive photo to DT?« on: March 22, 2008, 13:59 »
I think you get 60% of an exclusive photo sale at DT .
Whereas at Fotolia for newbies the difference is bigger 33% (non-exclusive) 50% (exclusive) I suppose as the agencies get fussier about accepting images it may become more important if an image is only accepting at one of the major sites. Exclusivity explained 57

I just did a few calculations for new sizes and new credit prices they don't start until May 2008
Blog 400 x 300 1 credit 35c - 50c Web 800 x 600 2 credits 70c - $1.00 Print 12 MB RAW 3 credits - 4 mp $1.05 - $1.50 Ultra High 28 MB RAW 4 credits - 9.7mp $1.40 - $2 Mega High 28 MB+ RAW 5 credits 9.7 mp+ $1.75 - $2.50 TIFF Download Highest res TIFF 10 credits $3.50 - $5 A pity they choose 10mp instead of 8mp for the highest tier but a big increase for the smaller sizes web 800 x 600 1 credit 37.5c - 50c print 2mp 2 credit 75c - $1.00 highest 3 credit $1.12 - $1.50 58

In terms of rejections I find iStock tend to be more picky though recently they have been accepting images that quite a few of the other sites rejected.
One positive aspect of iStock is that if their is a minor flaw in a photo they will tell you and you can resubmit, whereas Fotolia rejections are very vague In terms of uploading FT are a bit easier than iStock. If your acceptance rate at iStock is about 50% I would recommend disambiguating after your batch has been reviewed 60

Shutterstock.com / Graph plotting downloads decline at SS« on: January 31, 2008, 15:44 »I calculated how many images were in my portfolio at the end of the month by exporting the accepted images page to Excel then did some sums. I then divided how many DLs in a month by the number of images in my portfolio that month then plotted this graph it shows November 2006 to January 2008 so for my portfolio it peaked in March and has declined every since. 64

Dreamstime.com / Re: What keyword was used to download an image at DT« on: January 14, 2008, 10:28 »
Nothing about this in the DT forum section so I thought i would mention it.
Since the beginning of the year you can now see what keyword was used when one of your images was downloaded (they are listed in the last download column) . Nothing spectacular but interesting to have a glimpse inside the mind of the buyer. I was surprised by the number of single word searches and more so by some very strange results. keyword - solar panel image downloaded - map of Ontario keyword - software image downloaded - seattle skyline with yacht 66
Dreamstime.com / Level 2 images only need 10 downloads« on: January 14, 2008, 10:17 »
Nothing about this in the DT forum section so I thought i would mention it.
At DT as an image has more downloads the price increases and they have recently reduced the number of downloads for Level 2 images from 25 to 10. Usually a 600 x 800 image will earn you 50c but if it is downloaded 10 times a buyer will have to pay more and we get $1. More details in this table part of my Microstock guide Dreamstime info 25c subscription sales will start to get very annoying when it is a level 5 images that should earn between $2.50 and $4.00 depending on size 67

If you are entering your IPTC data correctly and have the bandwidth to spare I can't see why not.
The returns may not be big but they exceed the amount of effort and they have a high acceptance rate. Its not like you have to re-order your keywords or add categories. 71
Shutterstock.com / Re: Feeding the Beast?« on: December 19, 2007, 05:03 »
You can have long term sellers at SS if you upload at the right time and your image becomes a "popular" image then if interest continues it stays near the top in the popular search and continues to sell doesn't very happen often.
I have one vector that has been DLed 178 times in 9 months at SS, 10 times at DT and none at iStock coz they won't accept my illustrations 72

The reasons behind and the comments can be read at
SS thread $10 Low Resolution (240px) formally $39 [$10 at istock] $30 Standard Definition (480px) formally $99 [$30 at iStock] $40 High Definition (720px) [$40 at iStock] $50 High Definition (1080px) formally $159 [$50 at iStock] I personally have 176 clips uploaded at SS and sales have been rather sporadiac. So now that is no reason not to upload these clips to Istock. I didn't spend that much on the camera and just bring it along when i am taking photos but it may be very bad news for those who bought HD videocameras. 73

I was selected to try out the beta version, you get to search your portfolio by keyword then .You can actually position the watermark anywhere just drag and drop.
It is rather handy for making frames (or pictures or illustrations) with a large blank central area harder to use without paying for. I know for most of us 123 isn't a higher earner but the micro sites have a tendency to copy good ideas. If only Fotolia would sort out their watermark |
