Avoid at all cost!

General Stock Discussion / Re: AI: suffer it or ride the wave
« on: December 17, 2022, 13:38 »
There's a new nsfw AI generator called "Unstable diffusion" and it's already making waves in the art community. You should check Artstation, everyone is outraged their work will be scraped and used for porn. Adding NOAI tags won't be enough

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe stock keyword mess
« on: December 08, 2022, 11:08 »
Thanks for the help people. Mat, the keywords in my dashboard appear as submitted but in my public profile and the search they are different, as you suggested. Thanks for clearing that out. Some keyword suggestions are absurd though. For example I see "mobile phone" on many of my scientific illustrations :o

Adobe Stock / Adobe stock keyword mess
« on: December 08, 2022, 09:57 »
I just noticed that the keywords of my recent images/videos don't appear correctly on the customer's side - major keywords missing, keyword order off, completely irrelevent keywords added...
Could you guys check your recent submissions to see if it's widespread or only me?

Wow, they somehow managed to lowball Freepik. All at our expense of course

Gotta love the contrast in this thread - one side is making a rational argument, weighing the pros and cons for a well thought out decision. The other side doesn't even care to read, keeps repeating the same over and over, throwing a tantrum like a 5 year old, then claims authority ;D. I hate the fact that I'm in the same business with the second type, it's the type that will proudly facilitate the agencies to make it worse for all of us. And there are so many like him...

Feels more like january than october. Obvious decline all across the board in what is usually the best selling month of the year

At 8$ it's a no for me too

Haven't been aware about that particular ToS change but nothing surprises me anymore. We seem to be living in some weird mix of Brave New World and 1984. I can safely say we're outpacing Black Mirror at this point. Most people don't seem to notice which is another proof that the boiling frog syndrome is real

Freepik are ruthless bottom feeders, don't count on their goodwill. Maybe you should at least consider consulting with a lawyer about recovering the money earned through the stolen portfolios.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy sale for 7 cents
« on: September 21, 2022, 03:46 »
I have opted out in april and still had more than 60 of these today. There's even two sales with only distributor deductions so the total is less than before the sales :o
This madness has to stop. They don't even respect their own rules

Nobody's killing anything. Results are out there for everyone to see and those that are cherry picked are mildly impressive. Technology displacement will make some jobs redundant eventually and will create new ones, like it did many times before. So please stop with this doom and gloom clickbait nonsense

Pond5 / Re: Pond 5 Sales & Discounting
« on: July 20, 2022, 02:30 »
It has been discussed over and over again. Pond5 sets different prices for different markets/countries. Use a proxy and see that for yourself. Nothing to do with discounts. People choose to believe in the strangest conspiracies even when the explanation is right before their eyes. Not defending pond5 btw, what they do is highly questionable.

"This is the fault of everybody not caring for his business and teaching others = competition tips and tricks"

Science, technology and by extent modern civilization are built upon sharing knowledge. What you propose is just absurd.

I opted out on first of April and, again, I had yesterday 10 distribution sales... I asked them couple of weeks ago why am I still having these sales...

Quote
Hi Sebastian,

The image was downloaded by our distributor before youd opted out of the Distribution scheme in April. Many of our distributors have long lead times and the sale has only just been reported to us.

Kind regards

Ellie

So, for how long I will still receive these "distribution" sales... I have no idea...

 >:( >:( >:(

I was about to file a complaint when a saw your post. Let's see how many months it'll take to clear those pre-april sales.
0,01 out of 0,05 sale is simply outrageous. I have more than a hundred of those for june. Alamy really had our best interest in mind when they made a deal with those distributors, didn't they?

66
The way I see it Adobe was forced to follow suit in order to keep its position. I don't think they like giving huge discounts more than us. I'm sure they'll be losing big too. Videos are not images when it comes to sales volume so no, no matter how big a discount you make you won't sell dramatically more videos. I don't think even corporate is delusional enough to believe otherwise.
All that said I'm still pissed, I just had another 2,8 video sub

I wish I was exclusive like I wish I had a noose around my neck. Seriously this must be some variation of the Stockholm syndrome where you fantasize to become a hostage

They're barely even trying nowadays. This is as low effort of an announcement as it gets. If you read it with president Camacho's voice it's actually funny.
And yes, if you're still with 123rf and the likes you deserve this kind of treatment

For those still seeing the new design, try clearing your browser cache and cookies

What I learned from this is that istock actually pays 10c for non exclusive video! To anyone providing for them at those prices, how can you look at yourself in a mirror?

Not only it's worse but it's on purpose. It's meant to obfuscate info and make people visit the page less often. Sadly SS completely turned their backs on contributors

72
That's interesting. Marques Brownlee got access to the engine and did some testing:

The example images they chose look decent. The actual results are far less impressive. The technology is amazing but it's not replacing or "killing" anything in the near future.

Buying off competition. I just hope pond5 won't share Bigstock's fate. Also we have a very weird situation where part of pond5 content is available on Alamy so Shutterstock is de facto an Alamy partner  :o

https://blog.pond5.com/14237-pond5-launches-global-partner-program-with-adobe-stock-integration/

and AdobeStock.

I can see one massive monopoly/cartel looming ahead.
That's 5 years ago and I wasn't even aware about it
