For my peace of mind and my ability to speak freely I'd rather not share my IS ID.

Canon / Re: Lenses for 5d mark II
December 22, 2008, 19:11
All post-AI lenses from Nikon have a manual aperture ring except the latest G lenses - (* you Nikon for making the 12-24mm lens a G lens). I have a bunch of mechanical "Nikon to EOS" adapters. I also bought one chipped adapter (sorry I forgot from where) that reports a fixed aperture of 1.8 to the camera - no big deal. I love the ability to control DOF regardless of what the camera thinks and "life view" is so much better for manual focussing than split prism or 2x magnified angle finder.
Canon rules - especially if you stick a Leica 60/2.8 macro in front of it ;)

I really like the lightjet prints from calypsoinc.com but since you have a physical object that you are trying to copy that will not work. Can't you take a picture with a MF camera under controlled lighting conditions and then send it electronically to a printer?

If money is no objective they do have a "Digital copy" service

Good luck

Well I did get my application files accepted, but only at 800x450 resolution with H.264 codec encoded mov. I realize that final submission of video files will have to be in Photo JPG so I will have that ready in 1080p. Now I just have to wait for my acceptance to come through.

I just bought THE dream video lens for the 5D II.
It's the 50-300/4.5 ED AIS from Nikon. If it is as good as it's reputation - look out high definition landscape videography. I am carefully expanding my collection of exceptional manual focus glass since that gets around the problem of not being able to choose the aperture when filming with the 5DII.
The video AF of the 5D is useless since it is not continuous - you have to press the "AF now" button to engage it. Smooth manual focus should take care of it.
Still waiting for my acceptance to IS videographer.

Thanks. What I do not understand is how does Photo-JPEG compression adhere to the h.264 codec since that is what IS apparently wants. Well I will try again.

Thanks again

I used the 5DII to create the application videos for IS. Mp4 H.264 and all the shebang, but it is being rejected for not adhering to the 1080 pixel height limit and of course I tried 1080p and 720p submissions. I am so frustrated. Which programs are you guys using to generate your application files after they re-opened the application process. Any help welcome.

Thanks

I for one appreciate this warning from you HELIX.

Just got e-mail that the 5DII ships from Adorama today - no tax no shipping cost - sweet. I did pre-order September 21st. Excited. Black spots? No black spots. The tension is killing me.

No actual delivery into my hands just yet.

My point is - my most succesful picture targets a very specific niche.  So the buyer who looks for just this image and who (used to) see it on the first page bought it to the tune of 6 views/DL. The current best match disfavors this low view/DL ratio. Since now the file is not being seen by anybody anymore - since it literally is on the last page - the view/DL ratio has no chance of improving towards the 10 range that seems to be the optimum.

Hoping for the best..........

Just saw the announcement ............

Bracing for the results ..........

I would not contribute my 5D files to the dollar bin.

According to my understanding of the announcements, istock admins are going to be more actively choosing what files go in.

I don't think whether images were taken with your rebel or 5D will be a big part of the criteria they use....

I was just stating it from my perspective - not theirs. If they "confiscate" one of my 5D images to the Dollar bin then I shall oblige - maybe ;)

If they are images never sold, it doesn't seem they will succeed at less bargain price.  Possibly the idea is to purge them, not give them a second chance.

And yes, raising prices at the moment should be done in a small step.

I just "contributed" 10 of my most overlooked files (0 DL) but in my humble opinion useful pictures to the dollar bin and within 1 week 3 pictures were DLed 1 time and 1 picture twice. They are all files from my Rebel XT days but completely ignored for 1 year at IS. So essentially I got $1.75 that I would not have gotten before. If IS charges lower prices but still size dependent - I think that is a good idea. I would not contribute my 5D files to the dollar bin.

best match change - now.
Seeing my most popular picture (already on my 2nd to last page) pushed back to second to last picture of my entire portfolio after it miraculously managed to acquire another DL is just a travesty. HOW CAN ISTOCK PUNISH FILES THAT HAVE AN EXCEPTIONALLY LOW VIEW/DL RATIO?

best match change now. best match change now.

Watch me eat my words if the NEW and IMPROVED best match algorithm crushes the remaining DLs that I am getting.

Waiting for Armageddon ...........

You definitely have a valid point, but I want the MkII because I want to get into stock video.

It's the paranoid me that request a payout when it hits 100 just in case something "unfortunate" might happen to my account - the loss will always be below 100;)

*, the "Thumbnail" quality on PBASE is quite inviting to do exactly such a thing. I guess that is why the real stock agencies work with watermarks. Sorry to hear about this scam, but besides telling the sites to remove the images. Did you register copyright for these images? That might help to recover some damages.

Good luck

When you reach gold as an exclusive i believe you can start uploading to  getty. With silvers it slightly different and although a few might get through on first applying others will need to reach 5000 sales before automatically qualifying .

Yes, gold gets automatic approval, but from what I can tell, there is nothing automatic about the silver approval. I have friends who have over 7000 downloads and have not gotten in. It only makes sense that anyone who is reasonably expecting to reach 10,000 within 90 days should be approved (since that is the waiting period to reapply), but I don't have any data to back up that assumption.

Good luck to those still awaiting a verdict!

Probably a good guess on your part. Hopefully they ease off a bit after 90 days and rejecting the majority of silver applicants.

FYI. Having some of your best selling images pushed back to the back of your portfolio is not a non-exclusive phenomenon. It does not make sense what IS is doing. Diversity is helping me personally to fight back the tide of the BME screw job. 13% reduction in DLs from BME October that saw 2 $50 sales - so a larger drop in earnings. Having lots of weekend and holiday days in the month - could account for the -13%. Who knows whats going on - but it is not pretty.

iStockPhoto.com / Dollar bin exit strategy
November 26, 2008, 20:50
In order to trim my IS folio I decided to move 10 pictures that were older than 1 year with 0 DL to the dollar bin. Apparently they will be deactivated 4 weeks after the last DL (Tick Tock Tick Tock ....). Just in case they do garner some interest, can they be returned to my regular portfolio?

Bummer - we are being judged by our current portfolio - duds inclusive. As you can already tell I was rejected by the Getty editor gods. And I had so many neat ideas. I guess I have to give my best to IS just to get a chance at Getty. Anybody have an opinion towards trimming the duds from the portfolio?

Sorry to hear that. Did they reject your application request or did you submit an application and they rejected that?

I do not get the difference. I applied through the silver exclusive link and that came back negative. they give you an additional 90 days to try again.
thanks AVAVA for the encouragement.

i am with a credit union - love it - all transactions online. They have their own insurance. You have to pay 1 buck a month as membership fee - since it is member owned. I have no worries.
