Silly names - Offset and Stocksy both.
really? I loooove "offset" and love the simplicity of their logo. When I first heard "Stocksy" I though of the artist Banksy, which wasn't a bad thing. I also like their traditional American-esque logo.

how so? for all the whining about Stocksy being a 'closed' co-op, Offset clearly is more so, at this stage. I hope I get the opportunity to pitch some content, I love my vintage, soft pastel style for stocksy, but there's plenty of times when I shoot "straight".
Agree! I like your Sarah Moon style, soft pastels as well. good stuff! not very often seen nowadays actually. Stuff like that would also do well at Offset, so you go for it! when time comes.
is that for me? i googled Sarah Moon and I'm nothing like her stuff.

I don't want to bring anyone down. I want all sites to keep doing well.
I would prefer subs to not be full size downloads, that is wrong.

Dare anyone say that their marketing ploy and price strategy for 2013 is working...........

I think Stocksy is more offbeat, with trendy editing. Offset reminds of stuff I had to shoot for college (and still very much SS's style), full of colour and 'correct' composition and 'correct' depth of field. But I have to stay when I scroll through the stocksy work it is (for the most part) a visual delight. Less so on offset (although i've only spent 5 mins on the site, but hey, if you can't grab a buyer in those first 5 minutes with your best stuff....) the home page photo looks very instagrammy and i can't work out why they aren't showing off a dozen images on that first page? *shrug* their sandbox. But I do love the concept - it would be a great place to put stuff that isn't quite iS/SS and isn't quite stocksy.

ok i'm having a BME too - not saying much! I have more images with them than SS, iS, DT and nearly double FT, and they are still 5th.

the one thing i hate about forums is how fake and sickly nice everyone is, outdoing each other with their perfect platitudes - well you don't see that here at all, which is refreshing. But what we do have are people who are probably more touchy and nastier than what they are in real life.
For those who oppose this can you think of a way to improve the situation?

What does that mean?
I think it means at other times you can be very persnickety over wording used by others and you jump on it. your role as iS fanboy is well documented, but this is a new agency. I think it's ok to be a little excited and talk about first sales and first experiences, either here or in another thread. It's (and I mean: The stocksy board) hardly out of hand just yet. have you been over in the Symbiostock threads and bag them out too, for being happy about first sales? or is just Stocksy you dislike?

Now someone comes along with a good and fair concept like Bruce did, I personally think this deserves at least some respect if you prefer not to belong to the happy clappies... I do not mean to be offending, just my 2 cents
I wasn't being disparaging. The ethos over there is very different and quite wonderful. Everyone wants to pitch in to make the site work and there's nil snarkiness in the forums. Sure we can see flaws but those are brought up and then suggestions are made on how to improve and both admins and contributors chat freely. There's a postitivity that things can (and will) improve that's exciting to be a part of.

isn't it interesting that an image not deemed good enough for the DT collection would still get hundreds of downloads if free?

some beautiful images but.... Photographers aren't your customers, surely?

agree. I use topaz from time to time, and usually only apply the filters to certain parts of the image (so make a new duplicate layer, convert to smart filter...). For a while it was my go to place for black and white conversions too.

Thank you davidgoh - I'm one of the lucky photographers on Stocksy and I'm totally in love with the site as well. So many great talents with stunning work. It's sometimes depressing ...
lol totally agree. I personally love the style and that's how I like to edit. If you are even remotely in the current trend of portraiture you'll know that's how it's going. iS and SS make me shoot "their way" which is fine - it's like being back at college where a perfect exposure, crisp elements and correct composition counted more than emotion. My teacher at college hated shallow dof in front of the main object, so we didn't shoot like that, even though it's trendy. I'm still a stickler for perfect technique but I found it took me 2 years to shake off the limitations of the rules and start "seeing", including shadows, ignoring rules of thirds, or focussing "where I like it". Still learning, still improving.

there are tutes on keywording on the Stocksy site and it appears that some are being a little enthusiastic, despite the tutorial giving a very good "how to". There are quite a lot of non-stock photographers on Stocksy so they may need to settle down a little. I believe keywords will be limited soon, which is also a good thing IMHO.
Honestly I don't see how you can single out any site for keywording perfection. There seems to be spammers everywhere, and while the general mentality of Stocksy contributors is more unified and happy clappy, I guess there's always going to be a few (out of the 300+ photographers they now have) who have to tweak the rules for themselves.
if you do a search for "christmas" at iS on the first page you get: a dove, starry skies, a crystal ball, a VIP rope, a car with a bow, red velvet curtains, page 2 also has another 5 that shouldn't be there. SS is far better, nothing jumps out at me as being wrong until page 4.

I'm shooting an editorial on homeless people in a weeks. I might take a few model releases and see how I go... (no mexicans sorry, it's Australia. probably just white people and aboriginees)

but surely you can't read the label on her jeans, cos stock models don't wear logo'd clothes?
