As an exclusive at 25% :

Jan - 2.85$
Feb - 3.00$
March - 3.07$

And a comment for lisa: the numbers you posted are very close and it is hardly a steep decline. in order to determine if it is indeed a steep decline you must calculate your average and standard-deviation for a good few months back (lets say 12). if you have no idea what I am talking about I can do the calculations for you :)

Thanks, but I own a calculator ;)

I have calculated my average RPD from the various sites every month for almost 6 years.  I also have a large portfolio and a high sales volume so there is a lot less deviation than you would imagine.

You are free to take my word for it or not.

Didn't mean no dissrespect.  Some people don't even know how to calculate an average. I take your word for it then.

adamkaz: Those numbers are AMAZING! at what percentage are you in ?

For the 10'th time, please ignore those silly sites. They mean nothing what-so-ever.  Any attempt to conclude statistical data from such sites is bound to be WRONG!

I wish more people would share REAL NUMBERS instead of very pretty charts and tables which don't really say much.

Real numbers say nothing at all unless you have all of them. I don't know how many files you have online, whether your sales are up or down. If you have 50,000 files then your result is pathetic, if you have 50 files then your result is brilliant. I don't know if your sum of money is more or less than last year (or if you have a big increase in files online or not) so I don't know if things are getting better or worse for you.

Well then just ask :)
Feb last year we made 80$
We have ~2,000 images online of which ~1/4 are from 2008 and not worth much.
And things are quite stable for us if mesured by DPI & RPI.
We are going to get a substantial boost in income soon since we are expected to hit the 30% target in the next 2-3 months.

So with 2000 images you earned $796 as an Exclusive at istock?  That comes to a $0.40 Return Per Image (RPI).  Is this what other istock exclusives are earning, any exclusives care to share real RPI numbers.  I am earning $0.50 per image/per month at istock as a non-exclusive...I have a much smaller portfolio however, I was thinking of exclusivity just to simplify my life but if these are real numbers from exclusives it doesn't sound so promising.

If you are considering exclusivity, my RPI should have nothing to do with your considerations.
A general rule of thumb is that your income will be anywhere between double to triple your current IS income.
This also greatly depends on your earning percentage canister, and so does the RPI.
I am at the 25% mark. if I was at the 30% mark that is a 20% increase or 40% increase if I was at the 35% (which I am expected to reach before years end).

Not a bad month for us. (2nd BME)
Down ~3% since last month
796$ in income as IS exclusives.

OT: How can I know exactly how many of my photos are ACTUALLY on the PP site (Thinkstock)  ?
IIRC you can put your real name into the search box.

Nop. Doesn't work.

Its obvious you get a special treatment from Fotolia.  Id do the same If I had an agency.  Its just a waste of time and money, reviewing 99,999% perfect photos.   Anyone who sells images every 10th second get the same deal;)

I do not get special treatment. I get rejections too you know.

Sure you do! the 0.001% ones that aren't perfect :)
Just kidding... I have no problem with you getting or not getting special treatment.
I actually find it motivating.

Wow, now I am really jealous...
I wonder who is the idiot that reported the bug ?

Are you the upload police?

Hell no! just jealous...

I have noticed that recently a number of non-exclusive contributors are uploading hunderds of photos without the usual IS upload limits.
At there current canister level they shouldn't be able to upload more then 18 a week!

An example to some of these contrubutors are:
http://www.istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=2986225&refnum=justme_yo
http://www.istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=950010&refnum=Garry518

Does anybody have any explaination for this ?

I agree with bunhill. If IS wants to continue to raise their prices (nothing wrong with that, if they can sell the stuff) then they should take themselves out of the microstock market and start calling themselves a midstock agency. The problem is they want their cake and eat it too. They are continuing to brand their wares as microstock, but not at microstock prices. They get the buyers in under the premise that they are microstock, then try to shove midstock and trad agency prices down their throat. And the result? Exactly what is happening...buyers going somewhere else.

There's content on IS from 1 credit, up to lots of credits.  All kinds of content.  Just like Walmart sells crap tvs and expensive tvs.  Etc.

My point exactly.

, just to keep up with rising expections of standards.

I think personally the decision of IS to attempt to raise standards and position themselves at a quality level above other micro competitors is a good one. They attract a high standard of work, in fact I'd like it to be even higher personally, and more selective. I'm less sure about things like Vetta, it should all be great with a big weeding out of the mediocre. I have a lightbox of mediocre images at IS, for my own amusement, those images should all be gone.

I agree

I totally disagree. There should be stuff available at all prices.

Sometimes I buy a cheap wine which is perfect for a sauce. Other times I am looking for something very special to serve to my friends (or drink myself). The same store done well can serve both those needs. If the really good stuff is over-priced (or not quite good enough) then I am going somewhere else. If the stuff I am probably going to cook with is not cheap enough then ditto.

That's why branding works. You can have well done store which has different ranges at different prices. It's the total experience of the store which matters.

Where exactly do they state that they are "microstock" ? couldn't find it mentioned anywhere.
And another question: where exactly is the border between microstock, midstock and macrostock ?
And my final question: why sell 1 product when you can sell all 3 of them ???

^ You become a big fry if you're talented enough, IMHO.

I sorta doubt that.  Wouldn't you agree that hard work trumps talent?

I think its both (pretty sure actually).

Software - General / Re: freeware for hard disk data recovery
« on: February 04, 2011, 07:50 »
I know this sounds weird, but if you have a hard disk that won't mount- i.e be recognized by the system, something that can sometimes help is to put it in the freezer for a half hour, take it out and immediately connect it up and see if it mounts. I had 2 days of location shooting saved by this method. My computer geek son heard of it from his freind that works in data recovery. This guy said 75% of data recovery jobs get resolved this way. The reason it works is that the little arm that floats above the disk gets stuck onto the disk, and freezing it contracts the metal to free it up. If it works, transfer all your data right away to another hard drive, because it will only work until the drive heats up again. Not saying it will always work, and only after all else fails...

Great tip!  I will try this if and when I will get a chance.  Quite curious actually.
