No, the amount was in there and looked correct, I just zeroed it out for this post. I was just amazed that they made a mistake (I hope) on the date. Their emails used to come as just plain text. Theyve fancied it up, but its an epic fail.
Another example of a cosmetic swanky change that fails to get the basics right. These seems to apply to 90% of "improvements"

Hello, We constantly work on improving the contributor experience. To that end, we are pleased to introduce AI-powered categories. From now on, you will not need to manually input the categories of your uploaded photos our AI system will do it for you with maximum precision. This way, youll spend less time on mundane procedures and more on creativity. You are welcome!
Best regards, Depositphotos Team
"maximum precision" yeah OK.

it is a dumb idea because no one reads the description when making a decision to purchase an image.
it might not be a big deal for people with small portfolios, but when you have 60,000 photos it is a big deal when you have to go back and retitle 10,000 photos just to comply with a requirement that has no effect on sales.
I have had to do this for bigstock and all it does it lead to stupid titles. "smiling young girl" becomes "smiling young girl with long hair" which has no impact on someone's desire to buy the image. it is just a waste of time.
these companies should be making it easier for people to contribute, not harder.
to say you like this idea is just stupid. why shouldn't someone have the right to make a title with 4 words? seriously you think it is a great idea to force everyone else to increase their title length, when they can do it voluntarily anyway? you are opposed to 4 word titles for other contributors?
The harder the sites make it to submit thousands of generic similars the better. If you can't be bothered to caption them properly then they are probably not worth much. No one has any "right" to submit images anywhere.

shutterstock now requires 5 word minimum for all descriptions?
dumb idea
Given how many photos there are on the site it makes sense to me to be honest.

Its the same on a lot of months it often takes two or three days
I've always been lucky I guess...or maybe with SS getting more and more flaky these things worry me more ;-).

Hi Video1977! Hit me up if you have any questions at all. Elements might not be right for you, but I will certainly shoot you straight and give you as much info as I can to help you make an informed decision. - Josh
Are you considering applications from photographers who were booted a while back?

April 2019 earnings report is out with a special Turd of the Month Award!
https://brutallyhonestmicrostock.com/2019/04/30/brutally-honest-earnings-report-april-2019-including-turd-of-the-month-agency/
Thanks for posting. I would have thought Wemark should be the turd contenders. I have uploading on hold until I see some evidence they have sold anything!!!!
Thanks! Certainly strong contenders for the next months. I'm willing to give them a bit more time though...
I believe that Steve has had a few sales on there, so that's encouraging.
Nice to know it may be possible but they have hardly hit the ground running in their bid to revolutionise the industry ;-).

Of course, we pray for a future of $0.0000001 cent RPD, but with companies investing billions for marketting (i.e. "Goog News!!!"). And that will make everybody happy
edit: there is a little MS site, (even not listed on the list on the right here ) where I do more than on Istock now, where I am a contributor since 2005. My opinion is RPD has to be highly considered.
If they sold 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 images I could live with it. Considered yes but not on its own...Which is better selling one image and earning $2.50 Rpd or 100 at 25c? One makes you feel more valued the other puts food on your plate.

Lifetime RPD of $2.50 here. If only it was the same everywhere... Nothing to blame. I wish they had more success.
Maybe if they spent more on marketing they might of generated more income with a lower RPD. RPD is a meaningless stat on its own.

I thought about offering $15.00 for the whole operation, and then following up with an eMail that says "We've got great news!"
I'd check their debts and bank charges could end up costing you more than $15 ;-). I suppose its actually an interesting opportunity for those of you that believe a Contributor run site with high commissions could compete as you have a ready made infrastructure in place.

Honestly the only thing that will work will be new legislation.
Make no mistake the DMCA it there to protect sites like Shutterstock, not copyright holders. It ensures that as long as they take down something when they receive a valid DMCA takedown notice they are protected. Take a look at my recent posts about Etsy. Their whole digital download section is almost completely made up of stolen goods, but they don't have to do a thing as long as they follow the letter of the law, no matter how obvious the criminality is, they even let the perpetrators re-list if they fill out a false counter notice.
Service providers hold all the cards at the moment and they pay massive bribes to politicians and wages to lobbyists to keep it that way. People have got very good at spotting BS from oil companies and drug companies but for some reason can't see through the nonsense from tech companies even though they are now some of (the?) biggest lobbyists out there. They need to bear some criminal responsibility if they are not reasonably vigilant about this stuff.
Side note. I know companies like Facebook actively avoid knowing about any abuses on the site as they fear becoming criminally liable if they know. I wonder if the reasoning with some of the agencies is the same? They may not want to have an employee go through looking for stuff in case they get sued if they miss anything. Again a reason to back any legislation that demands reasonable oversight from platform providers, the current framework actively encourages them to avoid taking action.
Your final paragraph nails it!

Its a low earner for me but these days no worse than canstock, bigstock in fact its been creeping up the last few months. Whereas Bigstock has got much worse.

I would be interested to know what happens if you ever get the chance to pursue someone via lawyer for misuse/thief of images.
I dont hear of too many successful pursuits in this area, which is why I think that many contributers are resigned to stay with micros like SS even though they have a could care less attitude.
Respect for taking a bold move like this, and wishing you success.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if any successful action would include a non-disclosure agreement unfortunately. Personally I wouldn't allow them in any circumstances.

Sounds about like what you'd expect. We are so far removed from what they are working on that they probably forget we are still around.
At heart this is really a very simple industry. They are making it sound like nuclear physics.
At some point, it becomes a bit of a magic show. They need to try to create growing revenue year over year from a market that is essentially only so large. They might be hitting that point where the only way to possibly do that is to make it magically appear or somehow convince contributors to do freelance work through Shutterstock (which might be a better magic trick).
Does anyone still get "offers" from Shutterstock Custom? I've not heard from them for a while...probably because their "assignments" were not worth considering for a nano-second so I ignored them.

Thanks for that. The quotes seem to me like the kind of gobbledygook that spills out when someone has been sold something they don't understand. I remember a time I could understand these releases now I dont really care if I can't.

When did pond5 remove the Web size files?
I think that web disappeared the day the "great news" live show was aired.
It wouldn't be the first time a site announced exciting new plans followed by plummeting sales. Sadly for me Alamy is going that way at the moment.

Yes, I got an email today, skimmed through it, and noticed the bit about changes to the copyright section. But wasnt curious enough to go read the whole thing, since they dont even enforce copyright violations. I understand how allowing random people to report violations could get dicey, but geez, in view of the LARGE number of thieves stealing and posting content, youd think they would at least take a look, especially if that report comes from a contributor thats been around awile or has a good, money-making portfolio. That they dont tells me they dont really care, they will make money any way they can.
I think the only way that copyright protection will be taken seriously is if a big contributor or agency with no stake in SS sues them for reckless negligence in their methods of validating content. I doubt it will happen though.

Is this or isn't this permitted?
I am shocked. Do they really have human reviewers? This is definitely not allowed.
A decent robot would spot it. I'm convinced some contributors are simply "waved through" the system.

A simple view of latest sales doesn't seem much to ask before a complete overhaul (which in recent experience of site's improvements means 50/50 chance it will get worse)

I've been producing stock video for a few years now and I've been generating a bit of extra income to invest in camera gear. Non of my stock footage features people or talent - but I'm starting to consider hiring models to produce more content.
How many of you out there produce stock footage featuring hired models? and do you find those clips sell better (and make more money) than those with no models or people?
I did and I found it hard to cover the costs..but maybe I'm not very good. I think you need to study the market carefully to find what sells.

The wheel of fortune didn't start. It was just taking a very long time to upload yesterday - there was no message to say that stats were updating. This morning, the page is loading quickly, but the March stats still aren't there. Maybe today, or maybe ... ?
I foolishly assumed because it was going round something was happening...should have known better of course. Expecting a bad month unless I got lucky with some premium sales
