I managed to see the buttons by installing the Add Data script linked here:
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=297012&messageid=5979912
It gives me the buttons, but clicking on them does nothing. Can't figure what I'm doing wrong...
Thanks Lisa, that gave me buttons now too. They don't work for me either but at least I am caught up. Will try Joann's workaround now. Thanks Sean, Lisa and Joann.
---------------------------- I in the same situation as lisa and cclapper. No time to try work around at this point

Another Bailer dragonflistudio "I love great photography and I'm the first one to say that my job as a graphic artist is easier with good photography, but this site is getting too expensive. I can do my own local photo shoots for less money. I'm heading to another website to buy photos."http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=309762&page=1

Rob, you're not exclusive any more. Am I just spacing something I already knew or is this a recent change?
Will you be uploading elsewhere? And you can't be a geezer or that'd make me even more ancient
---------------------- Wow! Your right, no crown. I don't think you spaced it. Rob welcome to the dark, light, this side Or maybe its just a new Istock bug?

FWIW, I gave the PP a fair run when it first launched just to see how it went. I opted in all that was eligible of mine, but I think only about 150 or so ever made it over there. I opted out last October and it took until Jan of this year to get all the files finally off. Over the course of last year I earned less than $100 from the PP. My understanding of the sort on PP sites is that it favors newness, so my files, being the geezer that I am, were at a disadvantage. I won't be opting back in under the updated structure.
---------------------------- Given that you've been in since it first launched, why did you decide to pull out in October? Point taken on favoring newness so likely few sales in the future. But as it seems you had little concerns about cannibalism at first launch, something must have changed your perspective. Was it the September announcement or something else?

I agree its hard to cover 'lyspe expenses. But here is one contributor who certainly covered them. :-) http://www.istockphoto.com/search/lightbox/2171221/#183a83b5
But would he have from sales on TS instead? That was the whole joke about it.
I was more responding to jsnover's point that few 'lypse attendees cover their expenses through any kind of sales which I fully agree with. Just posting the link with the exception that proves the rule.

Joke of the week from JJRD:
Posted By JJRD: The day iStock and or Getty Images disappoint me & my passion for sharing Digital Media, I will be out the door faster than a speeding bullet.
[dcdp says: So what you're saying is that nothing iStock has done in the past 6 months has disappointed you.
I think that tells me everything I need to know about where you stand.]
JJRD replies: You may think what you want.
I know what we are doing, what we are fighting for and where we stand in our global objectives, and I stand behind them."
Clearly he's lying. If he agreed with everything, why should there be any need for "fighting"? Why should he have to thank KK for "fighting"? I see he also thanked someone for a "battle" in the Vector Vetta thread.
So again I ask, if iStock has done nothing to "disappoint" why the need for battles?
Sometimes I think he is self-delusional like he really believes that what he's doing is good for contributors and could make a good argument to himself as to why cutting my commissions by 25% is in my interests. Listening to him go on about all the meetings he has and how busy he is running his massive team, sounds to me like shortly he will realize he wants to spend more time with his family and step down from his role.

http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=307512&page=1Here are the new Partner Program commissions, (retroactively) effective January 1, 2011: Non-exclusives will earn 28 per download (was 25). Exclusives will earn the following amounts per download, according to their current royalty level here at iStock: 25% at iStock - 38 (was 30) 30% 40 (was 32) 35% 42 (was 34) 40% 44 (was 36) 45% 46 (was 38) So Istock is seeking to encourage participation at the low end while discouraging it at the mid-level (cutting commissions) JJRD's comment "Thanks to you for fighting, KK." seems to suggest that KK wanted to raise PP payouts, but somebody above him needed convincing. Insert jokes about sustainability here

more unhappy buyers http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=307152&page=1"snow and race not ski... no results" Second buyer same complaint "Another buyer here that is more than a little frustrated with the search. It's been ages since the new search was rolled out, untested it seems, for countless bugs and issues that one day of actual buyer use found. I went away for awhile and came back with a mid-sized project the other day to find that none of the search issues I had originally ran into had changed, in fact some were worse. Limiting the number of search words is more than a little annoying and the "drilling down" that is supposed to garner better results was either giving me no results or the same number i had before drilling down. Adding to that, you still can't use some of the functions such as color space and the ability to exclude certain collections that were in the OLD search is telling me that iStock doesn't really care about buyer experience in using their product. I have done this particular project each year for the last several years and the search process normally takes me about an hour to find 20 to 30 photos to comp. This year... almost 3 hours. My time is valuable too. I can't justify billing my client for an additional 3 hours of design time when it's solely spent trying to find the correct images because the company I am using has a screwed up search. So in the end, I end up eating that expense. And just for iStock's info...most buyers don't visit the forums. They don't spend hours trudging through threads trying to find that one trick that is going to make the search work, they don't know that the company is working feverishly to fix it, they don't know that this isn't just the way the search is going to be from now on."

I gave LB a real tryout for the first time yesterday and was generally pleased. Thanks so much for making this possible.
I did have the same problem as t3mujin however of LB distributing some images twice to some of the sites, though not as far reaching has his/hers.
I actually was surprised that they were distributed at all since for all my channels I had selected I had not checked the "Automatically submit all new uploads" check box. My thinking was this would result in requiring me to take some affirmative action like clicking a "distribute now" button in order for distribution to begin. After I associated the channels with the images I'd finished prepping I wanted to take one last look before starting the process, only to find it was already underway, despite not checking the auto distribution box.
Can you let me know what actually triggers distribution? Is it just associating the channel? Given the "Automatically submit all new uploads" check box, this seems counter-intuitive. I'd really like an option of a "distribute now" button to take the ambiguity out of the system.

Well, ya knows, you've got to speculate to accumulate. So, unless you're in the clique, you have to pay $500 for a ticket.
This is the part that really bugs me. Many of the same admins and inspectors go to these events as the one before and the one before that generally on Istock's dime. Then they invite people on special assignment that they like and toss in a few randomly drawn individuals to round out the field. In my mind, these events boil down to a big party for the clique and not much more. Just look at the thread and see who's posting. Its admin, admin, admin, inspector, admin, shank, admin, inspector. If things are running smoothly I don't care if they throw a big party, but with Calgary burning, it sure seems like a lot of fiddling to me. Edited to add: It does feel a bit like this event is paid for in part by the royalties that Istock took from me...

Another unhappy buyer - http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=303462&page=1 istock, if you sort out the insane inflation and reduce prices to a level my clients (mostly charities) can afford then I'll be back. Until then I'm trying the competition.
Thanks for the help and inspiration you've given me over the years."[/color]
The later post from the OP said they didn't mind the search issues, and wasn't even complaining about Vetta and Agency (possibly not flooding the searches he was doing?) - it was based only on price. Would you rather the prices went down to the levels of, say, five or even two years ago? (this is a very serious question/issue/dilemma)
edited because I'd not yet read the rest of the thread :-)

Another unhappy buyer - http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=303462&page=1"I've been using istock for 5 or 6 years now, spending about 100 a month. I like the superior images and the fact that I've always been able to find what I want.
But I've finally had it with the prices. I started using this site back in the days when I could charge my clients 1-3 for a high res quality image. Now the same quality image is 10-50. Not to mention having to wade through images costing much more than this to find ones which are just affordable. Enough, I'm gone.
istock, if you sort out the insane inflation and reduce prices to a level my clients (mostly charities) can afford then I'll be back. Until then I'm trying the competition.
Thanks for the help and inspiration you've given me over the years."

it's just like the people who are trying to get rid of their crown... 30 day waits have turned into 45+
^^Seems like this one actually works to Istock's detriment. People are free to upload to other sites after 30 days but still being paid as exclusive.
Seriously. Take advantage of it.
-------------------------- They will probably claw back the overpayments two months from now, once they have solved that particular problem :-(

I actually would think they are low volume, high RC's per sale exclusives, since if they were high volume, they would already be gold/diamond. It is more likely bronze or silver folks who portfolio has lots of vetta in it, who now get to a higher percentage much sooner than they would have under the old system.

This is total BS!!!! They are in violation of the terms of their own agreement with serious harm to contributors seeking to sell their images elsewhere. I would be flipping out if it were me!

You are missing the big point. All you exclusives aren't so exclusive now are you? We got shafted too. Total equality at last!
------------------ Are you referring to me? If so, I'm not an exclusive.

« on: February 02, 2011, 20:32 »
Wow! This totally sucks. I'm sorry for all the people who've taken a big hit. Wonder how much Yuri lost
These are the types of things that lead to class action lawsuits.
I would also say that regardless of how other micro's dealt with this in the past, this establishes a new benchmark for the industry... :-(
PS is it possible to lock a couple of these threads? I think there are 3 discussing it now.

My gut feeling is that when KK takes the fall for all the site problems (and contributor discontent) and resigns with his $5 million golden handshake that Nick King will take over.

There are many tools (some free some not so free) which can then be used to re-apply the metadata to your local sources. Can you give links to something like that or suggest google terms to search to find them? I'd love to have access to something like that but I'm even sure what term to search for. I would be trying to get them into lightroom.

@sadstock Thank you for the great feedback, and taking time to write it all down! I value it very much, and the things you mentioned will be added.
Meanwhile, I have added words and characters counters for the metadata fields:
More stuff follow.
---------------------------------- Wow! Looks great and is exactly what I need. Thanks! Following up on the issue of needed to upload to different sites weeks apart, I understand that if I upload a file to lightburner and submit it to several sites through lightburner, after a little bit of time passes, Lightburner will delete the high res image but will retain the metadata and a low res image. My question is if I come back 2 months later and upload the image again because I want to distribute it to a bunch more sites, will lightburner recognize it as something uploaded before and match the new high res image with the old metadata? It would be great if it did, as that would really address the storage problem for me. Thanks again
