General Stock Discussion / Re: Beware Freepik looking for free work« on: June 08, 2018, 19:48 »yes i work with it.I think you literally just said you were working with Freepik in another thread. what are you talking about. Your "friend" LOL. And you are happy about poaching work for your site and stealing from other hard working, honest artists who rely on their sales to support their families? Seriously, I would love to hear your honest response to this. 503

It only works if there is exif data still embedded in the image. Most places strip out exif data, like Facebook, etc. 504
VideoBlocks / Re: 4K sales« on: May 25, 2018, 09:12 »
Never sold a 4K at SB. And the single HD sales are very soft, as I believe, like many of you, that the growth of their member collection is covering many subjects. SB reminds me a "little" of Dissolve. They came in here wanting our work, being very involved in the discussion, and some of us bit, me included. Now, you never hear from them in here because their end game is coming to fruition. Every day suppliers like me helped launch their model, now we are a byproduct.
I think uniqueness is the key there. Everyday stuff like traffic time lapses, clouds, ocean waves, etc are well covered subjects; even drone footage, while cool looking, are more and more common. Stock is more strategic than ever nowadays. Shoot more unique stuff that is in demand and you can probably progress your income. 505

123 has always used 1 credit = 1 dollar. Based on their prices, it looks like a one for one.

Illustration - General / Re: Yet another Email scam« on: May 07, 2018, 18:35 »
Just another operation going beyond free stuff. It would never pay off unless, possibly, they sold millions of of copies and people who actually needed art like yours happen to be readers/buyers of the book. I will tell you from first hand experience being a book author that asking for you to pay them for your illustrations to be in their books is nothing more than a way to help fund those books. There really is nothing in it for you except to show off that your illustrations are in a book. If that's what floats your boat then here's the chance.

General Photography Discussion / Re: How was/is your April compared to March?« on: April 27, 2018, 19:56 »
SS WAYYYY down. DT down, Story Blocks decent. 123 is like CanStockPhoto....$20 or so. 123 is a complete disaster of a business. In a matter of a year or so I went from nearly $200 a month to $20 a month. Pathetic. I see them and DT in a race to go out of business if in fact their decline is due to fewer transactions.

I haven't received any email from them. But nice that they admit they are struggling. However, what does that mean for their strategy? If the model is the cause we could be in for a new "terms & conditions" agreement. 510

Pond5 / Re: Something is wrong on pond5 sales since September 2017« on: April 01, 2018, 11:44 »
Sales on P5 are cyclic for me. Had a really good March but a lower February and a soft Jan. It's been this way for me for a couple of years when I go into video. So I don't really see any changes with P5's sales patterns. Except I did get a $125 royalty on an old picture last week. That was a nice surprise.

123RF / Re: Again late with 1099 this year?« on: April 01, 2018, 11:03 »
At this rate I might not get 1099'd next year. This is my third month not making the $50 payout threshold. If Google really is affecting 123, they have taken my income from the $200 a month range to the $30-$40 a month range.

Software / Re: How to shoot static timelapses« on: March 30, 2018, 19:47 »Hi Mantis,By the way, how do you go about previewing all those huge files from the camera? Load them all into Lightroom and wait for the previews? Shoot RAW + jpg?To preview the 8k file I am using more end more the preview in LRTimelpse, very fast. If I have, say a 900 image TL in RAW, then drag it to LR, make my adjustments, save metadata to file, then reload in LRT, I have to go through visual previews before I can deflicker. That takes about 45 minutes to get through 900 images...time wasted if I just sat there. Haven't used AE, though so I only have my beer count as a comparison:) 516

Once you use Visual Workflow then not so fast if you want to see anything corrected from Lightroom. I think Gunther has a huge opportunity to do a better job in that area. You have to wait for all those DNG previews in order to use Deficker. That's not productive. But you are correct for a quick raw preview. 517

But, I'm asking it anyway... is there ANY way you can get access to your own images, other than buying them? Right on #1. Some agencies place images in search as most popular. When you have a lot of downloads, you can change that rank. I posted that comment as a general comment, though, and not specific to IS. 518

If you have lost files some of the agencies will allow you to download your images. If all you are wanting to do is influence DL stats then no. 519
VideoBlocks / Re: Sales have peaked a little over a year ago on VideoBlocks.« on: March 23, 2018, 08:10 »Didn't realize there was a free section in VB? How does that work? How does a contributor earn from that? They have subscribers to Storyblocks. They pay a membership fee and can download any wholly owned content for no additional cost. However, if they don't find what they want in the wholly owned collection, they have the option to search in the main collection (the one we submit to) and pay a reduced rate ($49) as opposed to $79 like at SS. We get the $49. So as they build the wholly owned collection, there is less of a need to reach into the main cookie jar and pay another chunk of doe. 520

VideoBlocks / Re: Sales have peaked a little over a year ago on VideoBlocks.« on: March 22, 2018, 18:32 »Since then it's a constant downhill. Maybe big buyers don't trust them or something. This. I recall VB being in these very forums and this exact thing was brought up. Their response was something along the lines that this would not happen because they could never get enough clips in that collection and they needed an offering beyond a small owned collection. Something like that. Anyway, their private collection is growing a lot and sales for me have softened. I was getting 8 a month, then it would drop a month or two then 8 more, etc. Now I am lucky to get 3-4 in a peak month and 1 in between. It was (and is) pretty obvious that this was their ultimate goal. It will only get worse as their wholly owned collection ramps up and takes 90% of the share. 522
General Stock Discussion / Re: SS sales this week« on: March 22, 2018, 07:42 »
Low downloads, but I am getting some spikes in SOD, one for over a hundred. But without those, weekdays would be similar to weekends, slightly better.

Software / Re: How to shoot static timelapses« on: March 21, 2018, 19:47 »Now with the Nikon D850 I can certainly ramp the ISO and this is probably going to be my preferred way Yes. You can really never get a smooth ramp using iso ramping, but with some devices like the VIEW or RAMPER PRO they create smoothing XMP files that you are supposed to dump into the directory with your raw files. You do get much smoother output and that is further improved by the deflicker feature in LRT. Like Uncle Pete says, it is a lot more work to monitor and adjust when you are doing dramatic light changing scenes (day to night) as I'm sure you already know. But yes, you do get obvious jumps and when that is combined with flicker from the aperture if you are not using a manual lens you have to be careful in post. 525
123RF / Is this why our ranks were lowered?« on: March 21, 2018, 19:38 »
I got this via email. It looks very suspicious as to why 123 lowered our ranks....to ensure we did not fall into the upper size bucket. I say this because it would be much harder to earn a higher ranking now. Win for 123, lose for contributors.
