It's fixed. Just got the email from them saying it was a technical issue.

Thanks for you response. impressive truth.
I am totally agree with every word you said.
I tell you one think.
this site could be what you say and as everybody know are stealing and making money for themselves not correct way etc. but there is one thing, my friend has an account on mostly all stock sites and freepik also, and making about twice bigger on freepik than all other sites together. So, yes its stealing, but make good profit for contributors.
Would you accept that your hard work have just been rewarded?
seriously,
you work and make money - we all work for money.
Maybe, for those who do not care about stealing their works it is no problem unless they making money from it?
what do you think?

what other people think?

please share thoughts.

thanks
I think you literally just said you were working with Freepik in another thread. what are you talking about. Your "friend" LOL.
yes i work with it.
and not only me, also couple of friends of mine.

And you are happy about poaching work for your site and stealing from other hard working, honest artists who rely on their sales to support their families? Seriously, I would love to hear your honest response to this.

It only works if there is exif data still embedded in the image.  Most places strip out exif data, like Facebook, etc.

VideoBlocks / Re: 4K sales
« on: May 25, 2018, 09:12 »
Never sold a 4K at SB.  And the single HD sales are very soft, as I believe, like many of you, that the growth of their member collection is covering many subjects. SB reminds me a "little" of Dissolve. They came in here wanting our work, being very involved in the discussion, and some of us bit, me included.  Now, you never hear from them in here because their end game is coming to fruition.  Every day suppliers like me helped launch their model, now we are a byproduct.

I think uniqueness is the key there. Everyday stuff like traffic time lapses, clouds, ocean waves, etc are well covered subjects; even drone footage, while cool looking, are more and more common.

Stock is more strategic than ever nowadays.  Shoot more unique stuff that is in demand and you can probably progress your income.

123 has always used 1 credit = 1 dollar.  Based on their prices, it looks like a one for one.

Illustration - General / Re: Yet another Email scam
« on: May 07, 2018, 18:35 »
Just another operation going beyond free stuff.  It would never pay off unless, possibly, they sold millions of of copies and people who actually needed art like yours happen to be readers/buyers of the book.  I will tell you from first hand experience being a book author that asking for you to pay them for your illustrations to be in their books is nothing more than a way to help fund those books.  There really is nothing in it for you except to show off that your illustrations are in a book. If that's what floats your boat then here's the chance.

SS WAYYYY down. DT down, Story Blocks decent.  123 is like CanStockPhoto....$20 or so. 123 is a complete disaster of a business. In a matter of a year or so I went from nearly $200 a month to $20 a month.  Pathetic.  I see them and DT in a race to go out of business if in fact their decline is due to fewer transactions.

Hi Mantis, this is the content from the mail:
"Spring greetings! We wanted to touch base with you to say thanks again for helping us get the Photo Marketplace off the ground.
We also want to acknowledge that we know sales are currently low, but we are making on-site changes to our user experience that will surface and promote Marketplace content -- all to get more sales to you!
To kick-start this effort, we are having a Spring Sale on Marketplace images! You will receive full price for your content -- we will be covering the temporary price difference.
We believe that this Spring Sale, coupled with Marketplace content surfacing and user experience changes, will kick-start sales back to you.".

As usual, nice communication from them, maybe even a bit naive (I use a French word, as I cannot find an English word that fit, someone certainly will suggest a more appropriate one. I am not native speaker)

Thank you, sir. It's possible I got it but I have been traveling a ton for work.  Right now I am on a different time zone so maybe I'l have a martini and call it a night...even though it's the afternoon:)

I have received an email from Storyblock today, I suppose most of you have received it too.
They acknowledge that sales have been really bad and say that they are trying to get things going again.
It is nice, and unusual these day for an agency to admit that sales are bad. I must that they always had a nice communication.
I have the feeling that their re branding from Videoblock to Storyblock has been a total disaster, not surprising.
They had managed to get a decent position on the extremely difficult video market and they lost their name for the sake of running behind a media that is way overcrowded (photo)..
I never liked the membership business model and sadly Pond 5 is going heavily that way too

I haven't received any email from them. But nice that they admit they are struggling.  However, what does that mean for their strategy? If the model is the cause we could be in for a new "terms & conditions" agreement.

good job . keep it up

Ahhh the studio rental guy (or gal).

I got 7 cents, I asked, if this was right and I got this answer:

Thank you for contacting us. We have checked your $0.07 sale with subscription and confirmed that it was a technical glitch, please accept our apologies for any inconveniences. We will double-check and add correct amount to your account within few business days. Thank you for your understanding.

So you have to bitch to get them to correct the error? It's what it sounds like to me. While they hang on to the error-driven cash over perhaps thousands of sales.

512
I would accept $200 per chocolate chip

Sales on P5 are cyclic for me.  Had a really good March but a lower February and a soft Jan.  It's been this way for me for a couple of years when I go into video. So I don't really see any changes with P5's sales patterns.  Except I did get a $125 royalty on an old picture last week. That was a nice surprise.

123RF / Re: Again late with 1099 this year?
« on: April 01, 2018, 11:03 »
At this rate I might not get 1099'd next year. This is my third month not making the $50 payout threshold.  If Google really is affecting 123, they have taken my income from the $200 a month range to the $30-$40 a month range.

Software / Re: How to shoot static timelapses
« on: March 30, 2018, 19:47 »
By the way, how do you go about previewing all those huge files from the camera? Load them all into Lightroom and wait for the previews? Shoot RAW + jpg?

If you haven't tried it already, I can really recommend a small little tool called ERawP, which extracts all embedded jpg preview files that hide inside every RAW file.

I don't shoot RAW + jpg, I just drop the RAW files into ErawP, and boom, within a few seconds it extracts all the embedded jpg previews so I can quickly look through all the images without having to open any applications at all.

It has probably saved me a couple of work weeks.  :)
To preview the 8k file I am using more end more the preview in LRTimelpse, very fast.
The main thing I need to check is if I need stabiliser, in which case I have to go through AE.
If I can avoid going to AE, I do everything in LRT (including encoding) and the process is a breeze, very fast.
If I need to go to AE, the computer get grilled , it takes forever and often the PC crashes

Fast for the original. Once you use Visual Workflow then not so fast if you want to see anything corrected from Lightroom.  I think Gunther has a huge opportunity to do a better job in that area.  You have to wait for all those DNG previews in order to use Deficker.  That's not productive. But you are correct for a quick raw preview.
Hi Mantis,
are you talking about the new version 5?
I consider the rendered preview in LRT5 for 8k files really fast compared to After Effects, where they are incredibly slow to load and can even crash my computer

If I have, say a 900 image TL in RAW, then drag it to LR, make my adjustments, save metadata to file, then reload in LRT, I have to go through visual previews before I can deflicker. That takes about 45 minutes to get through 900 images...time wasted if I just sat there. Haven't used AE, though so I only have my beer count as a comparison:)

« on: March 24, 2018, 08:18 »
I know, I know ... stupid question. But, I'm asking it anyway...  is there ANY way you can get access to your own images, other than buying them?

What are you trying to do? If you have lost files some of the agencies will allow you to download your images. If all you are wanting to do is influence DL stats then no.

1. But not iS, which is the forum we're in.

2. How could downloading without paying ever "influence download stats"?

Right on #1.

Some agencies place images in search as most popular. When you have a lot of downloads, you can change that rank. I posted that comment as a general comment, though, and not specific to IS.

Didn't realize there was a free section in VB? How does that work? How does a contributor earn from that?

They have subscribers to Storyblocks.  They pay a membership fee and can download any wholly owned content for no additional cost.  However, if they don't find what they want in the wholly owned collection, they have the option to search in the main collection (the one we submit to) and pay a reduced rate ($49) as opposed to $79 like at SS.  We get the $49.  So as they build the wholly owned collection, there is less of a need to reach into the main cookie jar and pay another chunk of doe.

LOVE your work! Too good for micro.

Arcangel is another one. You are committed to a 3 year contract.

Thanks a lot Angela for compliments and useful input. Your work is so beautiful and artistically inspired...

I agree. Angelawaye's work is really fabulous.  So is yours.

Since then it's a constant downhill.  Maybe big buyers don't trust them or something.

No... It's because of increased competition. Sellers have been flocking there because of the great commission, and they have also bought thousands of clips for their membership library. The more clips they have in their membership library, the less you will sell.

This. I recall VB being in these very forums and this exact thing was brought up.  Their response was something along the lines that this would not happen because they could never get enough clips in that collection and they needed an offering beyond a small owned collection.  Something like that.  Anyway, their  private collection is growing a lot and sales for me have softened.  I was getting 8 a month, then it would drop a month or two then 8 more, etc. Now I am lucky to get 3-4 in a peak month and 1 in between.  It was (and is) pretty obvious that this was their ultimate goal.  It will only get worse as their wholly owned collection ramps up and takes 90% of the share.

Low downloads, but I am getting some spikes in SOD, one for over a hundred. But without those, weekdays would be similar to weekends, slightly better.

Some of my new ones show with no title and keywords, some approved files are not showing at all. Wrote a ticket to SS, they said they're on it. I trust them.

Same here.  I saw this thread and just checked and low and behold my recent videos are missing, two are in the port and all effed up.

Now with the Nikon D850 I can certainly ramp the ISO and this is probably going to be my preferred way

Interesting, but doesn't ISO ramping cause "jumps" rather than flicker, since the colors change when you change ISO (gradually desaturates etc.)? I think that increasing shutter speeds (and increasing motion blur) can be a rather nice effect, but I guess it's not always ideal.

No way will be 100% perfect of course (except maybe ND filters) but it's nice to have options.

Yes. You can really never get a smooth ramp using iso ramping, but with some devices like the VIEW or RAMPER PRO they create smoothing XMP files that you are supposed to dump into the directory with your raw files.  You do get much smoother output and that is further improved by the deflicker feature in LRT. Like Uncle Pete says, it is a lot more work to monitor and adjust when you are doing dramatic light changing scenes (day to night) as I'm sure you already know. But yes, you do get obvious jumps and when that is combined with flicker from the aperture if you are not using a manual lens you have to be careful in post.

123RF / Is this why our ranks were lowered?
« on: March 21, 2018, 19:38 »
I got this via email.  It looks very suspicious as to why 123 lowered our ranks....to ensure we did not fall into the upper size bucket. I say this because it would be much harder to earn a higher ranking now. Win for 123, lose for contributors.
