The first one wont be accepted because a lack of property release. The second, would proly get rejected because of flat/dull colors (bad lighting) and chromatic aberation. All this in IS, dont know about the others... IS just love to reject...

Exclusives at IS.
290 images + 2 EL's sold 825$ income BME and a huge 61% increase from last month (no canister change).

The sales trend in IS seems quite negative according to most people here... maybe its because of the crappy site ?

Frankly, mate, your sales tally for the month is pathetic given the number of images you have online ant that you are exclusive. I'm way ahead of you despite being independent. I'm probably ahead of you on iStock this month on a sales-per-image basis, too, even though this month sucks and a lot of my stuff is old. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
I am satisfied with my sales, we have a double digit growth (in %) from month to month and that is what counts for me. in contrary to what you think, I am not in any contest with you or anyone else here (pissing or otherwise). I wish you the best of luck, big earnings and may you be the next Yuri for all I cares, despite your foul language.
I must have missed something. Personally I don't object to foul language, but I don't see any in Balderick's post...
Well maybe not foul but quite rude, no ? " So stick that in your pipe and smoke it."
Well, you know, he means whatever youre smoking, he wants some. Thats a compliment!
Yeah that makes the both of us Prices here have gone up to 600$ an ounce!! now that a lot of MS pictures sold worth...

2. Some people here are old timers. the fact you sold 10,000 photos 5+ years ago doesnt mean much today. it is CURRENT DATA and figures which count, not pre-historic ones. In this example someones speedometer might be maxed out but with much much less current sales then us (with our speedometer being very low).

I didn't imply a thing, just asking a question that has much relevance.... if you drop from 50$ to 25$ your data doesnt really mean anything. if you are in the top 200 then your data has has very much validity to it!
Our port (we are a team of 2) consists of over 1,700 images, we had 262 downloads to date in January (and counting), and expect to reach ~800$ this month, partially because of 2 EL's and 2 refferals.
Vlad: did you drop a canister ?
NOTE: forgive me for any spelling mistakes.
I'm not sure what you mean by "your data doesn't really mean anything." For that contributor, using your example, his sales would have dropped 50%. No?
In order for any of you to be able to discuss your stats, you need to step out from behind the great wizard curtain and show your ports and size. You don't want to do that, you don't have much right to put somebody else down for being anonymous. I say that with all the love in my heart.
What i mean is simple, it is a very basic rule in statistics, the lower the number of samples the lower the data has any statistical meaning, thats it. I have no intention of putting anyone down, but in real life who you are and what's your track record does have a great significance. With all due respect to the speedometer, it also is quite biased for a few reassons: 1. In our case for example we started our MS business on march 2010. even if we are very very efficient and proffesional it will take us time to built a port and sales to add up. I publish our numbers so everyone can see what our data is worth or not (unless anybody thinks we are lying...). 3. some people with very high figures (vlad_the_imp for example) don't even use it. I value their opinion much more then others simply because they are "high-rollers" .

Not only a broken site, which remained broken over the New Year and Christmas, but a poor management team. I feel they have peaked as a site and for the first time in 6 years I'm starting to put together an exit strategy. I like to keep my anonymity so don't want to discuss my canister level, sorry.
I respect your wish for anonymity, I can assume you are a Diamond/BD if you are in the top 200. I just wated to know if the drop in revenue is because of a genuine drop in sales or because a drop in your earning percentage...

How big is your port ? how many sales do you have per month ? For us it was a great month. BME actually...

Yes it is possible and perfectly "legal". We have accounts (but no photos) on all big and mid tier MS sites and are exclusives at IS.

Plus for some people stock shooting, and maybe only iStock (or other) is their entire income.
All eggs + 1 basket = certain doom
Not at all. if the basket breaks, your eggs are still alive and can always upload them to other MS sites. So in our case: All eggs + 1 basket = good business decision.

That's a tough one to answer. I think on average my IS portfolio generates around 40 cents per image per month. Maybe more, maybe less, depending on the month. Of course, most of that income is generated by just a handful of images. So again, it really depends. However, using just that number would dictate an exclusive portfolio of 750 images - but then, you won't be at the same royalty rate as me, so you'll likely need more images. How about a 1,000 images, no maybe 1,200,...
Odly enough, I have the same numbers +- (40c an image). So yeah, your numbers do seem to be in order, but as said this varies greatly from port to port.

Current limits AFAIK are
Upload limits for non-exclusive contributors:
Base: 18 Bronze: 20 Silver: 24 Gold : 30 Diamond: 38 Black Diamond: 40
Upload limits for exclusive contributors:
Bronze: 60 Silver: 90 Gold: 120 Diamond: 150 Black Diamond: 200
as from last July.
See http://www.istockphoto.com/participate/contributor-lounge/contributor-news
I stand corrected.

1248 is a large number. Unless you are an image factory, 24/week is a lot to produce, week in, week out, for a whole year. Try it. You'll see what I mean. And as you move up the canister level system, you will get more upload slots. The highest amount of slots for a non-exclusive is 40/week for black diamond.
The other way to get more upload slots is to go exclusive.
Actually, somewhere I'll never be, but I have on good authority that when you reach 25,000 downloads you have 150 upload slots per week. Maybe it's just that person, but it was a question about uploads and exclusives and that's what he said. So there's your exclusive limit for anyone who cares.
The level of 150 uploads per week is for exclusive black-diamonds only. So over 200K downloads are needed for that. at exclusive diamon level (25K downloads) you get 120 upload slots. And for lisa's remark: we are hardly a factory, but our current 60 images per week isnt enough fo us.

first time I see it, honestly no value
That's because you don't have enough sales to make it relevant. You can just use your fingers and toes instead.

Given that they have mulltiple openings for App developers, it just seems like they have some incompetent IT staff. I would expect IT to be top priority for any company that deals in financial transactions online after maybe marketing. What else do they really need to do besides those two.
Maybe the top IT people from istock are still the same people who started with the company in its infancy and isnt qualified to oversee an operation the size of istock.
Posted sometime in nov. so im def not defending them but i dont think comparing what goes on at istock is the same as what happens on different sites like amazon or facebook. facebook employs (steals from google) the best geeks in the world.
Can't IS afford to do the same

Maybe someone can explain what does this mean:
Bad days: 70% 2011-1-3 86% 2011-1-4 76% 2011-1-5 84% 2011-1-6 83% 2011-1-7 95% 2011-1-10 90% 2011-1-11

I think is nice, never noticed it before. I vote stay!
You shoud add some "IS site not functioning" into the calculations factor. it seems to happend quite often.

« on: January 20, 2011, 09:36 »
Someone who knows more than me. Dose this happen because of carelessness or dose it just happen at times. I have never seen this many problems on other sites so what makes iStock different?
it happends because of incompetents, low IQ, and having no fear of getting fired.
549
« on: January 20, 2011, 09:35 »
They are indeed a complete bunch of incompetents
I agree. If I was one of the big bosses at getty/H&F I would have fired a very high percentage of the emplyees there long ago (and a much higher percentage then the royalties they pay the contributors!).

what an infantile response... who talked about rolling in money? : )
So what are you saying then? You say we don't have sales on Alamy because we're cannibalizing earnings with microstock. So I suggest that by your logic I would do much better to delete my microstock portfolios and just sell on Alamy. To which you reply that my suggestion is "infantile."
Help me out here. What the heck are you trying to say?
That you too should ignore him...
