Wondering how microstock sites such as Getty/istock will be affected by the coronavirus.
The entire industry, as any other industry will be globally affected.

On the other hand since people can leave and still have work they will buy stock instead of shooting their own. Could be a boon for us.
No way, the entire global economy will be affected. Projects will be canceled in almost every industry, budgets will be cut, companies will lose business, employees will work fewer hours...I think stock sales will suffer badly because production goes down across the globe. And this is only the beginning. Even though governments worldwide are doing everything they can to contain or at the least slow down the spreading of the virus, the economy will hit a recession regardless.

I have no idea how to report it. Anyone?

Yep, that's Planet Earth material. Come on, Adobe, step up your reviewing game! How do we report this even though we're not the copyright owner? This thief might be infringing other people's material as well and it gives Adobe a bad rep.

Wow, that's a serious privacy infringement... How in the world did that release get listed for sale? Have you contacted them yet?

I'm not sure if SS allows dual ownership. agencies are able to upload images from multiple contributors but the account is under one name.
I strongly recommend against sharing your account with your friend. What is going to happen to the account if you and your friend each go their own way? What if you get into a fight or some legal issue happens between you. One of you could be shut out from using the account and lose access to his share of the portfolio.

I quit doing microstock years ago and closed all my accounts - except Alamy, I left about 300 old images there, many are just 6mp. And surprisingly I still get a sale once in a while. I'm even thinking about uploading a few new ones for no real reason.
Why did you close your accounts instead of getting passive income?

I've received all of my payouts without problems. I don't know what happened in your case, but the site is definitely not dead or a scam. Also, why are you opening multiple threads on the same subject?

Can you share the email from SS? Didn't receive it.

The preview sizes were upgraded a few years back to huge sizes. It's downright laughable how far SS is going just to satisfy customers. They have no interest in protecting our rights, battling image theft or copyright infringement.
Bugs in site code allowing downloads without payment, duplicated portfolios and image thieves selling images on some shady alternative website....SS doesn't give a rat's ass, their bottom line is all that matters.

Hi:
jonbull: thank you for your optimism man!
Noedelhap: thank you for your time and you more detailed and helpfull answer. I went over to ESP and could see the upload form but it says Istock creative image, video, etc. Doeas it mean that it will upload to Istock instead of getty or is it al the same? confusing.
Uncle P: Thank you, i answered your message but not sure if i send it right as i don't see any sent tray.
Thank you!
you would realize that for someone that not upload for years and still earn a payout, what means? that old files sell and new not..
How can you come to that conclusion if you don't upload anything new? The fact that older images still sell is not a proof that new images don't sell. Unless you actually do an experiment with two identical accounts, there's no way you can tell.

You can still upload to Getty, try https://esp.gettyimages.com . However, forget(ty) iStock. They're a mess. Unless you like $0.02 royalties for your images. They cut commissions and treated their contributors like crap, before and after the takeover. The revenue has dipped to about 10% of what I used to make and as such they've become a low-earner. I no longer upload there, it's a waste of time. Right now, Adobe Stock and (to a lesser extent) Shutterstock is where it's at. The microstock heydays are gone, but these two still manage to bring in sales consistently (but for how long?). Adobe Stock is going strong (since Adobe took over Fotolia) and although the Adobe contributor portal lacks the functionality of Fotolia's old portal, contributors are treated better than under the Fotolia management. Shutterstock seems to want to please stock holders more than contributors, they've lost touch with their contributor base and they have a terrible review policy (and a very inconsistent one at that). As far as I know, contributors don't get special ranking based on activity. New stuff only sells if you're lucky to get noticed right after getting your content accepted. Right now, competition has increased across the board, with lots of low prices and a race to the bottom. Subscriptions for footage are already a reality. All in all, my yearly revenue grew, but only 10% each year and only because of two top tier agencies. I must add I don't upload very often, but I've started uploading again since last August.

I'm not saying it's gonna get better, but Jon was becoming more useless as CEO. Shutterstock was market leader for many years, but the last couple of years SS is sinking. Fewer Enhanced License sales, $1,50 video sales, lack of communication, bad review policies...Of course Jon is stepping down. There's no way to go but down.
In a few years they will lose their #1 market leader position to Adobe Stock and then the major cuts can begin (or even sooner than we think)

My RPD on DP was $0.40 for December....I don't really like DP, but they sell reasonably well: 2/3rd of the sales consists of subscription sales, 1/3rd is On Demand.

In all relevant searches are the same as always. Never mind your Coronavirus editorials, or change the official name every day, the World Health Organization. You are placed on the page, 3, 4 and 5 of new files. If they have any quality, directly to page 12.
If they change their name now, they return the same images to Relevant in the new search. It is impossible, Valentine, Christmas, Coronavirus, Carnival, Hallowen, Black Friday, .......... Customers flee from the old tastes of SS. Finger to the screen, doctors and food scattered around the table, like a table for the irrational animals, the market is already saturated. Today's customers are from the 21st century
Maybe, the new CEO of SS puts order, maybe he can no longer, that is, worse than the previous one. We will see it.
His brain tells them, that the client leaves for the same reason in his arguments, All photos are the same.
They, their neurons, of Galactic Gods, do not recognize that the relevant page is similar. Spam in the new, to launch to your tastes, the tastes of the 70s of relevant image placers. Conclusion, if you want something different as a client, you must go to modern agencies. Since the Similar Content is promoted by the agency itself, diverting quality and modernity towards the competition.
The examiners head out of the course like a football stadium, without understanding Spam's difference from valid and necessary collections. However, they will continue to hide these images and offer Archaic and Prehistoric Dandruff to customers, without variety in the possible tastes of a global market.
If you are not of the classics of your taste, if you sell, it is because customers are looking for you, since SS does not offer more than a certain taste of images, of course, as customers surely say when leaving the company, Similar Files.
Without modifying your files, they will surely end up being accepted, if they are valid, at the time a reviewer examines you with common sense.
One Of the most brilliant Posts I've read In a lot of years. Thanks.
Really? Maybe it's just me but the broken English in that post read like a lot of incoherent thoughts and mumbo-jumbo. I get that English isn't his first language and despite the language barrier he's trying to convey his message, I can respect that, but 'one of the most brilliant'?

Hyperstock was conceived as Pond5s answer to the growing number of unlimited download subscription sites that have proliferated over the last year or so. Like it or not, there is now a large buyer base that is only interested in an unlimited content subscription product. No, it is not TV/film or big budget advertisers but a growing group of social/digital producers that produce content frequently but on very tight budgets. This is so stupid. It's like saying: "well, people who work a minimum wage job can't afford to buy a Mercedes, so let's give them a Mercedes against a lower price point. Other car salesman are doing the same..." What car company would ever think like that? It would grossly devalue their product. Sometimes you just have to accept you can't have it all if you're on a tight budget. Why does Pond5 have the desperate need to cater to lower budgets? My two cents: if you're a content creator, and you can't afford a certain price for footage or photos, then maybe you're just fresh out of luck. Start saving up money, do something else and come back when you have budget. I don't want to sacrifice my livelihood and sell my content for pennies just so you can live your dream life of being a Youtuber. I'm not doing this for charity.

When I visit the Hyperstock website, it says COMING SOON...I can't search the database or anything?
Pond5 took it down late last night after seeing angry contributors.
Wow...they would only do that when they knew they were wrong. Goes to show Pond5 has zero integrity left. I have no idea if my portfolio was on there, but if it was I'll give them hell on social media.

Alamy has never been relevant to me in terms of sales, so whatever. Especially since the greedy commission cut last year -considering this buyout it was nothing more than a cash grab by management- I don't really care what happens to Alamy.
I expect them to go the same route Getty has. We won't benefit from the new management, that's for sure.

Dont remember all of them, but shutterstock required ITIN number about 10 years ago from me.
Only if you didn't register as an Individual...otherwise your foreign tax identification number was sufficient. I didn't need an ITIN 10 years ago.

As I said before in another topic, it's indeed a must-have for Adobe. It's been requested for years now (even when it was Fotolia) and AS simply never implemented it.

I hope so, they have no reason to exist. They don't offer anything new to the market, they have proven to be greedy and desperate, their review times are infinitely long (or don't review at all unless you ask them to) and their sales have fallen off a cliff.
I say get rid of it, weed out the bad players in the game.
