Or maybe it's related to something else, like Google indexing images that were previous bought by someone else, who puts it on their website and gets indexed by Google without the watermark. Then someone else downloads it and uses it on their website without paying Getty.
If that's the case, then it's pretty complicated. The person who download the image probably never had the intention of paying Getty in the first place. But do we place the blame on Google? I mean why stop there? Why not any search engine who can index images? I've seen my own images on search engine without watermarks, but never at super high resolution and I rely on people to know what is legal and what is not legal and I would never blame Google.

Here's what I see when I do a google search for Getty images. I get a preview of an image with a Getty watermark on it, so I don't know what they're suing for.
Maybe this lawsuit is related to something else, like people having access to a high resolution image without a watermark. But this again is the fault of Getty. It's their responsibility to prevent anyone from scrapping their website and access the high res images without paying. Maybe if they spend some time on improving their system (starting with iStock) instead of being complacent, they wouldn't be suffering in the first place.

Getty is getting desperate.
Google shows Getty images with watermarks. It's not like they remove the watermarks and let people steal images.
Google implemented bigger previews (which they get from Getty) because it's user friendly. Got forbid that a company tries to make it easier on the user. Getty only want google to show their tiny thumbnails so the users click to Getty to get a bigger preview, which makes the user experience lousy. They want to have their cake and eat it too.
Maybe they can request Google to not spider their site at all...that will take care of all the problems.

I don't get why stock website give refunds. I mean I know why; they want to be friendly to the customer, but there is no way to track if the person who got refunded is using the image/video or not. The videos have previews and if you like it you buy it.
I feel like once a customer realizes he can get a refund, he's going to take advantage of that situation again and again. And somewhere down the line, they're going to use that video that they got for free. These stocks sites need to implement a refund limit for every buyer (like 1 video per quarter), if they haven't already.

It would be more useful if Shutterstock would make the Image Gallery Stats fully functional. I wish that IGS could sort the images by sales, as it was possible three or four years ago.
You can do that now. Just click on "Total Purchases" on the table and it'll sort by sales. What they need is a search function so I can check the performance of specific images.

A grand total of 1.
I gained a follower in the first month I got accepted and never got another one.

Awfully sloppy Month. I find it hilarious and quite depressing at what we get used to as compared to 3 years ago. And "ALAMY" is now #2??? Wow.
I think someone it's trolling Alamy or Alamy trolling us. All you need is a few accounts and a few fake votes to push that number up. I highly doubt it's real. The rise was too sudden.

I take back what I said earlier. Can't upload right now and download numbers are inconsistent.

There is definitely something strange going on. My US sales started declining on the 17th.
US sales makes up a small percentage of my overall sales, so it hasn't affected me much.
The strange thing is that I've been able to climb the weekly ranks by quite a bit, despite having a decline of about 10% in downloads compared to last week. This leads me to believe that other contributors are being affected more than I am.

The whole system has been acting up in the last 2 days. Can't upload and sales are disappearing and reappearing.

Are you sure it isn't just taking a few minutes to sync the servers? It might show up after a little while.
It finally works now. I submitted twice in the afternoon and it never went though, so I'm not sure it was a sync issue.

Tried to in the afternoon, and then tried again on Sunday night. Website said the submission was successful, but there's nothing in the pending approval list.
I hope they fix it Monday morning.

Do I love getting 38 for a sale? No. But IMO that sale would probably not have existed before subs.
Why do you say that?
People who buy subscriptions obviously need images for their work, on a regular basis. I'm guessing that whatever business they're in, it existed before subscriptions; and it would continue to exist even if all subscription plans ended tomorrow. They might have to pay a dollar or two for those images, but doing so wouldn't put them out of business.
Yes, they existed, but they wouldn't be so liberal when it comes to downloading. I used a subscription and I still do. I download images I don't need sometimes, because I'm using them for comps. If subscriptions didn't exist, I would just download the watermarked images until I find the right one and only download the one I need instead of multiple. Subs are also great for contributors. For the contributors whose work has a lot of commercial value, subs are a great way to help them get their images up the search results. Without subs, new uploads have little chance to rise up the ranks.

It's worth it if you can get your images up quickly. If your images contains the necessary meta data, getting it up on some sites can be fairly easy. If you're working with vectors, the task becomes a lot harder because of different upload requirements for different sites.
I have my portfolio up on 2 sites fully and 3 other sites partially. I put all my focus on the best selling sites and I try to maximize their earnings. When I have down time, I upload to the middle tier sites. So far, it's been going well for me.

OD/SOD makes up anywhere between 5-12% of my downloads.

US sales always makes up 5-10% of my sales. I think the majority of most FT sales comes from Europe.

FT doesn't take the title into consideration when searching for images.
If the words in the title are not in the keyword section, you will never find your images.

Don't you need be either exclusive Gold or non exclusive Emerald before you can change prices?

why the third name change? It's getting hard to remember who's who on this forum.
This is the last change. Promise. The first change was because I need to be more anonymous when I reported someone for stealing my images. The second change was because I didn't know that the name Minscer was linked to some sex offender.

Brace yourselves. Videoblocks is all over the news today regarding their support for 360 degree videos.
The secret is out.

Fotolia is showing a clear sign of video sales growth probably due to the Adobestock integration. This year's growth is accelerating now. I'm seeing 3-4x sales compare to last year's same month. Please don't tell anybody about this because it will "dilute" my sales. LOL.
strange post, why the need to broadcast
I don't see the harm. People broadcast bad news on here all the time, so why not some good news as well? Have we gotten so jaded that we think a bit of good news sounds...strange?

I don't know about videos since I don't any many yet, but my images have been selling really well on FT. I'm still working to get my entire portfolio up on FT and when I do...I estimate that earnings will be on par with SS.
I'm anticipating a big week next week since a lot of images got approved on Friday.
Sounds good. Congrats!
Congrats to you as well. It's good to hear stories of success.
