everybody has their workflow thats for sure, RAW opens up a lot of "advantages", sure it will take you more 2 minutes on CR and then converting but overall IMO it is really worth, perhaps a lot more helpful outdoor where we cannot control light as easy

123RF is the agency of the moment beside SS of course

Interesting.  You may be right.  I have a designer friend who only uses 123RF.  If she doesn't find what she needs there she asks me to shoot it.  She tried Istock early on, but now only shops at 123.

I say this because 123RF seem to be the only one still growing.. DT, IS and FT are stagnated

123RF is my shining star. On the verge of second payout mark in 5 month's time. I think it lies all in the niece you cater for. There is only 3 out of 13 sites I contribute to which can even hold their own against 123RF. I do not even have a needle below my avatar to point at anything in the top 3. Just goes to show.......

123RF is the agency of the moment beside SS of course

if I am using strobes I will set manually to 5600 which matches my equipment

if your strobes are 5600 or 5700 just set it to that (I have never used a gray card or other) you can go with Auto too and then in CR set to 5700 and 0 tilt, I have read a while ago about it after a talk with a stock photographer and he told me that sometimes if you set the strobes to half power or less they might not be that accurate regarding their temperature, so the gray card might be suitable

Also I have about 20 images waiting for review for many days now which is also (almost) an abnormality. I understand more are experiencing this.

Same here. 50 images waiting for review for almost a week. Reviews are usually fast so I don't know what's taking them so much time.

are you sure thats SS? I have been submitting everyday and approved less than 24 h later

« on: September 15, 2011, 10:08 »
Does iStock need a competitor in order to avoid problems with monopolies legislation? It isn't trying to wipe out SS, if it was it would be undercutting the subscription price, which it could easily do, instead of pricing at similar or higher rates.

Ever heard of Thinkstock.com...? (They ARE trying to wipe out SS, and soon when they have forced all images to Thinkstock they will begin the fierce battle. I hope SS wins.)

they will never reach SS, I do like 10x more on SS and my PP sales are like half of IS

Don't worry, they going to breath in all your pictures !!! You'll be earning some cents in return of your efforts!! ::)

Is this a prank? Maybe you should donwload some of jaffbanke's ir rinder's ebooks... I heard they are fabulous : D

The Joker - and I thought my jokes were bad

Don't need to be mean, man! If anyone are not willing to share some thoughts, simply don't do it.

Okay, sry, but here's may take on this: you just have to go on any site that can list pictures ordered by popularity, downloads, etc... Search for keywords of things that are available for you to shoot ('dog woman house' in this case f.e.), check out the best sellers, thats what you need to emulate. Asking around in forums is pretty much useless compared to that for several reasons, and a picture is worth a thousand words anyway...

lets make it serious ok? if you are going to search every single picture you plan to do, you better get another job, there isnt a picture that the market actually needs it, there are more than enough and done in perfection! so you better not shoot or just shoot family stuff!

BUT as you know and you havent said here is that stock agencies still approve apples, fishes, architecture, people and all other stuff even flowers! (I love the way everybody keep on saying that stock is this and that and they know thats not right! but yeh everybody have a strategy)

p.s: I am not saying you will get rich doing stock, most certainly you wont

You don't need to search everything unless you are naive. You look around and 'get the picture' of what is necessary in terms lighting, composition etc. It's not rocket science, is it? I also don't understand why should anyone diss doing some visual research on a subject matter, it's lot more helpful than listening to everybody's philosophy about it, that just gets most ppl confused imho. It's useless.

Agreed! I believe I have misunderstood your comment

« on: September 14, 2011, 15:41 »
for my small income there I can say they are constantly up and down, I am having around 100 sales per month but the $ changes a lot.. a few days ago I have placed the EL at 50$ (used to have at 30$) and a few days later had 2 ELs luck for sure but they are quite stagnated comparing per example with 123RF which seem to have more sales month after month, quite depressing actually looking at FT sales

dont ask advice here  ;D these guys will eat you alive, 99% are 100% right but come on you have a few "days" of stock, you are trying to see use in every picture you do and I do understand (I still do that, I am so anxious to upload that a find myself sometimes shooting crap and I know it wont be approved in the big agencies and I always give it a quick edit and upload, if you have the time why not upload it? sure you can plan a lot and shoot great stocky pics like Sean but that takes time, money and skills, we cannot get there before doing a lot of crap)

keyword and send :) dont forget the keywords dog and woman and you are set!

5316
I shoot rarely below F9 even if I am looking to do a shallow depth of field picture :)

never used noise reduction (dont know how to do it) but I dont shoot higher than 200 and if I remember you have a 5D mark II which can make amazing things even with a big ISO so you arent using the correct exposure

if you had 9 out of 10 it means these are good enough to be online, might not be about noise or other but the use of the pictures which I believe thats the more important these days on stock, if you pull 1000 studio pics I can assure you than 999 will go in, if you do them properly and might not be WOW

pictures taking outdoor and borderline subject can go easily to the rejected pile, some days dont yep

pictures locked doesnt make any sense, I do understand they had a reviewer looking at the picture and that means $

but when it come to bring level 0 and 25% royalties they dont give us 3 months so we can get used.. again they have the fork and the cheese (portuguese expression) so nothing we can do, obey and dont talk with reviewers or make complain, it wont take you anymore, actually might be prejudicial, there are "great" moves from both big and small agencies (we notice that quite often here)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Revenues observations! SS / IS !
« on: September 13, 2011, 22:41 »
Last year when SS started reporting sales it was about 53/47 USA/Foreign. Last payment, last month, was roughly 25% US / 75% overseas. Might just be me, and ELs have dropped to none for me, small OD sales. Anyone else getting a change in sales percentages by location?

Aug 09 - 14%
Aug 10 - 17%
Aug 11 - 14%

I am always between 10% and 20% of US sales

Crestock.com / Re: model profile in crestock?
« on: September 13, 2011, 17:31 »
I don't think it's only the name...

"Upload a nice, representative picture showing only the model's face.
This picture will be visible to the public. Minimum size 270 pixels."

I don't get it. My models are ok to have photos online where their face isn't recognizable so they are NOT ok with me puting up a "nice, representative picture" of themselfs. Why does the site need this??

it is just a pic, other agencies want it to, canstock per example, nobody will see it, just to help you out assigning pics to MRs

Dreamstime.com / Re: Have just asked to cancel my account at DT

there will be always a second, third or even 4th type of contributors for agencies

I have questioned myself about all the crap going on some if not in all stock agencies but in the end there is just one question, what do you want from stock? if you dont want to be upset, depressed or other negative stuff just step out and find other industry, if not give your best everyday or at least every time you pick the camera to do some stock pics, in the end they will pay off despite all the negative spirit on this or other forum

Today seems quite dead but so far doing about 20% better then last month (which was horrible) but I still consider it slow (low RPI).
MS is a tough bussiness!

LOL now it is tough? I remember you saying that in a few weeks you would be over Sean  ;D

5324
you seem to be the only one on microstockgroup saying that over and over about them.. might be true for sure but in the end I believe you are losing money and a lot for sure.. if I did 20$ last month I believe you would do 5x that for sure, you should really contact them and take your doubts with them

I'm sure you're right. But I'm not willing to ignore their past in order to make some money with and for them. I've had to contact DepositFiles many times in the past and request removal of my images that were being illegally distributed, and I'm not about to get involved with DepositPhotos just because that site is a legit operation. There are clear ties between the two sites, particularly as they relate to the site founders, as well as some super shady activity regarding the true location of the company, which was all followed by threats in this very forum from representatives of the company against anyone who pointed out the evidence. Those aren't the sort of people I'm willing to do business with.

Obviously I'm in the minority here, and most folks are ok with doing business with them. I won't interfere with discussions about DP anymore.

no no my friend! I appreciate every effort you have done on the past regarding them, my only point is the money you are actually losing, I really think they should come here and talk openly and explain, before now and after, everything! the problem is that not many agencies do that

I was on a designer forum and saw this.
