I've had a few rejected for

" We have too many similar images already. Please perform a search on the subject before uploading, to see what is already online and where to fill niches."

When I think it is a somewhat obscure subject I do a search and rarely find any let alone many similar images. I'm not talking about isolated apples or mallard ducks here.

I think DT is trying to fix a problem they have in the wrong way, but I suppose they can do what they like in their own sandbox. If it continues to get worse at some point I'll stop uploading there.

DT seem to be holding some favorite folks.. we just need to get there  ;D

Uh, why don't you just not come back?

come on Sean :)

Ingrid open one topic and a forum "newbie" decided to pick on her without any reason just to demand attention

I don't know the history.  I'm just wondering why the need  to "close an account".  Just don't log in.  Or don't come back.

there is always a lot of heat in here.. microstockers, contributors, photographers are all on the verge of a nervous breakdown  ;D

Amazing what can happen in 18 months or so. We are now down to just 59K 'new stock photos added this week' __ that's nearly half what it was before. Fewer contributors finding it worth their time against all the competition?

maybe more rejections but sure some have given up

real. she is a model, produced by the user lambada......who has an amazing portfolio....absolutely stunning images IMO

If you're crazy about balerinas ;) . Because there's nothing else to see (if we're talking about photos)

it may not scream stock, and I don't know that user at all...but her photography (composition/lighting) is gorgeous. and she shoots a lot of haute couture and other work too. I personally find it very beautiful and technically stunning.

exactly.. I would love to have a portfolio like that, inspirational stuff, everything is on the right place, the model expression, the compo, the colors, everything works smoothly, might no be stocky but sure it is a different and beautiful portfolio, real artist

it is a nice picture, the true is that DT is almost demaning this or we wont have pictures online..
I agree. If those pictures aren't good stock images then 90+% of what's on the microstock agencies isn't either. Good images IMO.

Exactly, 90% is rubbish. Mostly total rubbish.

mate I would love to see your NON stocky stuff that sell like hot bread :P

I won't bother posting it for you, you wouldn't understand it anyway ;) . Ignore back on, so pls just stop quoting me and save the time to come out with all that nonsense you always do by replying to people who didn't put you on ignore. Yet.

there are really too much people like you here (like I am the king of the world and other sucks, I love that stuff) but I wont ignore you or other

What does 'BaseContributors' mean?
Not Bronze or above. Or with people like me, No Canister. ;) Under 300 DLs
Isn't it still 250 dls/50% acceptance for Bronze?

250 for bronze
250 and 50% acceptance - exclusive option

I would be happy if the French government banned subscriptions. :)

I have been wondering for a while if there are any buyers with annual limit subscription plans, which we suppose to get from 1.7 to 3.1 depending ranking

On the subject of E+, I've now got 34 E+ slots available.  Before the price filter I usually had them all used up, but now I'm waiting to get a better idea of how sales patterns change.

Shame it's so difficult to work out sales patterns from our own sales data that iStock bother to make available to us.
Each to there own but please tell me why you bother with sales patterns. How long does it take you ?What are you looking for ?
New files are struggling to get any sort of foothold at the moment, such is the amount of content getting added to the library.I never notice patterns, i just know my good sellers keep selling  at the moment.

come on, one day IS rocks other sucks.. one day you say u love Lobo other not..??? I am confused  ;D

Perhaps Shutterstock will cut commissions to it's contributors in the future,we will wait and see.

sorry mate, that might happen but perhaps IS will do it once more first.. and do you know the last time SS decreased our royalties?? yep.. never.. they actually increased it :)

I see a lot of noise too.. but the lighting aint bad, maybe not the best exposure

1250, ISO 400, F 7.1, 100mm ??

why dont you went to ISO 100 and a lower shutter?

that means that agency are still approving pictures with cheap lens like the 18-135 zoom lens.. Stock aint that demanding so far..

Well, like everything, it will depend on the agency and the reviewer and whether he had a punch up with his girlfriend last night.  But with a cheap zoom I think you would need to avoid all the extremes - avoid the widest wide angle, avoid pretty much every aperture except f/5.6 and f.8, then, yes, it would probably be satisfactory. Also, you can be lucky or unlucky with a lens/camera combination. If they happen to be a good match they will do better than if they aren't.

keep in mind I shoot always with high F, from 9 to 18, unless I want shallow depth of field.. the 50mm is a great great lens that I use almost always, I am ditching the 18-135 everytime I can.. but I can tell you that 50% of my IS portfolio is on a sigma 18-200 (which after shooting with a 50mm I got the feeling how crappy it is and forget about it)

I think you lose sharpness on most lenses when you go much over f9, around 7 is usually the sharpest aperture.

I guess I know what I am saying, you might know too but on studio I play with high F and it worked very nice and I do test quite often and compare results.. I am sure I am not the only one playing with high F, if I have enough light I go up if not I go down keeping the ISO always at 100 unless one or two exceptions.. the 50mm doesnt need that high F I know but I like to pump it up, I am not getting rejected for focus or other so I am not doing anything wrong at least in shooting :)

I don't know if nikon has an equivalent, but for me, if you don't have much cash, it's worth going canon just for this lens.

nikon has it too, kind of famous, the Nifty Fifty!

So to review but with my own situation... I have multiple shots (say 10) of a isolated sculpture. What would you recommend? Upload 2-3, or composite them together or just choose the best one and submit that?

DT is weird, they must have somekind of different types of reviews for different contributors.. so I would say upload all the 10 and wait to see how it goes..

I mostly use the 24-70 f2.8L for stock. I doubt if it is possible to get much accepted with a zoom "kit lens" these days, so the standard 50mm prime becomes about the only cheap option for stock. Second-hand DSLRs may be cheap but hardly anybody dumps a good, pro-quality zoom lens on the second-hand market (and I wouldn't trust one without trying it). A good zoom alone is way over his budget.

I am thinking of that 24 70 lens too but Nikon version.. But the true is that 60% of my pics were done and approved with a Sigma 18-200, about 30% on the 50mm (which I use almost all the time now) and 10% on a Nikkor 18-135 that I got months ago once was tired of the cheap sigma quality..

that means that agency are still approving pictures with cheap lens like the 18-135 zoom lens.. Stock aint that demanding so far..

5495
(mainly DT) is asking this to contributors, if we are doing them, we are accepting it.. but again?? what can we do?? leave one of the big 5 ??

No. They urge us to do this, they don't force us to.  Let them take one and reject the rest if that is what they want to do

I suppose it is possible a collage might sell more quickly, move up levels and make more money in their system than a set of individual pictures would. But I'm not convinced and the subscription option undermines that idea.

exactly but the problem is having 2 pictures online when you produce like 5 or 6 that arent similar like they say.. we are losing market for sure, that talk of the levels etc etc is great but I dont know what is better to have 6 pictures or 2 that might go INSANE!!!

IS need another collection like the exclusive ++ for your crme de la crme pictures eheh

now for real I dont know why you keep exclusive with a agency that kicked you out of the forum :P

A smart contributor would realize that spreading downloads over an excess of very similar images is not a good strategy when a sort method may include downloads as a variable.

I might agree with that in certain way but DT is going very far on this matter.. they want a picture of a subject or a bunch into a set.. thats isnt going to help stock and also our pockets

How isn't it going to help? Surely the probability of sale would rise due to the amount you can offer (sets). Of course assuming their all good quality useful shots.

I guess you havent read my comment :)

The problem of DT is that you can have 1 or 2 pictures that they will think are SIMILAR.. if you try to upload a 3rd one they will rejected (unless you are a DT honey, which there are tons of them..) thats why if we want to have different angles and such we need to create this collages which like said here are paying us 35 cents for a 40 megapixels or more, imagine stock in 1 or 2 years?? designers will look only into this "big" pictures and we will be working for 5 cents instead of 35 cents per REAL photo.. thats going to screw stock but again agencies (mainly DT) is asking this to contributors, if we are doing them, we are accepting it.. but again?? what can we do?? leave one of the big 5 ??
