aren't they busy enough just dealing with all the extra uploads? and now this? I hope they've hired more staff, or put in free coffee machines...

they're reading the fine print in their license and wondering if they've breached it...

There are other 'real' people that wouldn't have a problem if their image was used to illustrate an article about bad doctors.
sure they may be 'real' but they usually are a) much younger b) better looking c) better dressed d) tidier than real doctors.

I get Tom's point, he wants to use real people. Leaf's solution is pretty clever.

^ must be exclusive with their agency

as much as I appreciate their desire to keep the team player mentality strong, this type of person has not clue as to standards across all agencies, do they?

i've got plenty of shots of inside beauty salons, my home, restaurants... never needed a PM. I did have a few shots refused (although to my amusement, half accepted, half refused for needing a PM, I even switched out the giant poster in the BG for one of my own images). I did some mother's day stuff i my bedroom with "original" artwork by Husband on the walls. clearly the inspectors agree with me, it's not worthy so they let it through. lol

will it also end up like Apple, every time I go into iTunes I have to waste so much time with unwanted updates and whatnot. We can only guess, and I suppose we are all assuming the worst.

of course it will.
it's a public company, they must show growth and profits every quarter to shareholders.
it's the same sh-it seen already in every other SaaS (software as a service) operation.

well that's an exaggeration. I use an online subscription accounting program, no ads or annoying updates. that's cos the accounting world has no clue how the internet works. by comparison, $19.95 for a program like Photoshop Vs accounting software that is rubbish and annoying to use @ $29.95/month.... makes Adobe look v reasonable.

Personally, I am not "afraid" of new technology at all.  But I also have learned the difference between what is necessary to do my job and make money, vs. the need to be on the cutting edge of everything all the time (bragging rights).

Yes I don't appreciate being told I'm "afraid" of change. I'm not afraid of technology, but I use it to suit me, rather than have it dictate how and when I must change my systems.

562
keeping up?!!! why should we continue to learn new things cos some designer has to make new features to justify his/her job?
these ppl aren't even working in our industry, they are designing stuff they don't actually use themselves, but rather designing things to make photoshop appear more impressive. Every time Apple makes a change to iTunes or the iPhone anyone over 30 groans. Why do we have to keep learning all this rubbish when we only need 25% of the functions? And they go and move those functions around to make it look like they are innovating.  It will get worse as now they'll have to justify this new system and roll out updates and changes all the time, rather than with each upgrade. And think about the neverending tutorials we'll have to endure with each tweak. ugh, looks like Adobe employees just saved their jobs.

We aren't fooled and we aren't impressed, just annoyed.  It will actually interfere with my work I reckon. Not to be mean to those who love all the new features, but I just want to get my work done.

I buy a lot of lifestyle stock and I rarely use models isolated on white. What I am always looking for are natural looking people, not posing, not looking at the camera. I want to see an instant of real life captured. I want great lighting, and artistic flair. As the boomers age, there is definitely a growing market for good looking, active older people. Shopping, golfing, eating, drinking, biking... It sounds cliche, but I need those images all the time, and most of what is available is awful.

Stocksy...?

you can report wrong keywords, can't you?
These seem to go in as 'needs review', meaning the keywords aren't being checked at ingestion. Files I wikied well over two years ago are still unchanged, some lightboxes I submitted for batch wiki, as was asked for by Team Keywords haven't been looked at from as far back as March 2010, and a small sample of older ingested 'needs review' agency files haven't been changed in over a year, so ...  :(

How can they ever hope to improve best match if they allow this?
Why are these people so appallingly bad at keywording anyway?
what makes them think someone looking for "france" will change their mind and buy a polar bear? they should drop keywords down to a max of 20.

if only my olds had "the look". I tried some shots last time we were all together, with their new caravan no less, but it just wasn't good enough.

567
Im not really a fan of this at all, but the only perk I can see is the 2 licenses thing, 1 for desktop 1 for laptop.

But a question on this - does anyone know for sure if you can have 1 license Mac and 1 license PC under the same subscription?

My wife still has a PC :(

if you could have one a pc and one of a mac that's a +1 for this new system.

568
I just disappointed that now we effectively are "renting" the software. The only perk would be if, like a gym membership, I can take 3 months off from time to time without penalty.

569
well, may this story serve as a lesson to all the RF fans.

as for RM, it's not becoming a "small niche" as many here think, sales are relatively stable, it's the sale price that is lower compared to years ago, also because they do many Bulk deals, the ones who got fockd by micros were those shooting the sort of images that are now best seller in the micro RF agencies but for anything a bit more obscure RM is still the only option.

what's worrying is that even millionaire hollywood studios are using micro images and probably also micro videos and micro audio !
I thought you said earlier you'd turned over a new leaf and weren't going to be the RM fanboy, especially here?

When I see yet another doom and gloom thread about sales over on SS I purposely remind myself that the regular forum scribblers probably add up to less than 5% of the of the active contributor base - and that any day now someone else will start a BME thread.
well I won't start one... but I'd say that things are going just fine at SS. :D

« on: May 07, 2013, 17:52 »
I did notice that I had to redo my info, had a chuckle at the strongly worded "you can only choose this name once" for portfolio webaddress thingy. seems like if i'd wanted to change I could have this week. I refilled in the fields as briefly as I could. I did note it seemed I couldn't get my status to 100% unless I filled in a response for all the social media, which I don't have. Today I can't even see that bit on SS, meh, just get on with it. How important is that stuff really?

123RF / Re: What's the best uploading method for 123RF?
« on: May 07, 2013, 05:54 »

The reason why we need releases to be files in this basis is because we can actually search for the number of people within the photo and also show the "More images of this model" section.

Alex.
well other sites also do this, without the same tedious upload. (although admittedly, with the irritating categories)

however, news of change and improvement is good.
cheers, :)

573
lol, where I live that's about $1.2M. are you sure you're not exaggerating just a wee bit? :)

Here's how you can quickly attach and manage your model releases: http://www.123rf.com/guidebook/c05s02.htm

Any other questions? Please get in touch with us: [email protected]

Thank you!

Alex.

thank you Alex but "quick" is a subjective term. Have you compared your process to your competitors?
Your way involves going to another screen click click click click click click etc etc, instead of attaching release with the upload.
it's probably the worst part about your upload process, which overall is pretty good (+100 for not having categories!)

^ interesting point. They've created Lr to sell to those who can't afford PS, but now that's a moot point? you'll pay the same to have a single application.  Presuming ACR is still bundled with PS then it's a far better option to have that combo.
