I'm -30% when compared to Dec 08. Here's the breakdown:
SS: -45% IS: +220% DT: -60% FT: -35% StockXpert: -70% 123: -40%
On the bright side, compared to Jan 08 (my worst month last year), I'm +30%!

Perhaps this thread should be rethought - I might like it better if people posted only their own high profile placings and/or other peoples images they've run across.

For me IS seems to be back at the "pre-best match shake" level (which is very cool), but sales at DT are SLOOOW.
Ditto.

My main goals last year were to upload an average of 15 photos each week, and to reach $1000 per month in dowloads. I exceeded the first goal, and reached the second in about August, unfortunately I dropped back below $1K in December.
This year my goals are to: 1. Upload in excess of 20 photos per week 2. Learn Spanish to a reasonable conversational level 3. Travel from Guatemala where I am now, all the way to Tierra el Fuego in Argentina, without jumping on a plane for any part of the trip 4. Do my scuba diving certificate 5. Fund all of the above + my trip back home solely from microstock earnings...
Good luck everyone with your goals!
Good on ya, holgs ... you've developed a nice twist to this dot-com lifestyle!

My measure of success is how much leisure time I have combined with when and how I spend it.
Before turning to microstock I worked the typical 9-5, M-F hours. As a non-commercial photographer before that I spent a lot of my time making pictures of people when they weren't working (portraits, weddings, performances, events, ...), which means I worked nights and weekends. Success in this industry means I can work how and when I want. I cannot imagine, for the life of me, any other job that could possibly allow me this amount of freedom in my life.
Big plans this week: Hike up mountain and ski down it. Go to beach at sunrise and sunset. Drive Jeep down deep snow-covered road. Thanks a million microstock industry, I owe you big time!

Hi All
I Just want to say that the new age of digital player is so dialed in. I am one of the few old guys in stock that tracks his numbers in Macro stock business but when I look at these color coded lists and percentage breakdowns WOW!. This is definitely a new revolution. I think it rocks. This is just one of the things you are all bringing to stock, real analysis that you are not afraid to share. Bravo.
AVAVA
I take the other side of the coin. After doing microstock for two years, I've found stats like these absolutely meaningless. Yes, there are statistics that matter, but the percentage of total income from each agency isn't one of them - particularly so when total income isn't included as part of the picture. You can applaude all you want about sharing, but when it comes right down to it, almost nobody who does this for a living will share info that truly matters (e.g. total income, income split by concept/sector, keyword efficacy, ...).

I think you are failing to realize, shank_ali, that (older) non-sellers show up at the very bottom of search queries, and are thereby automatically culled: taking the time to eliminate them from your portfolio is doing nothing but wasting time.

I think the posts in this thread show that the "earnings rating" poll results shown on the right side of the page don't actually correlate to real people's information.
Yes, I've noticed this for a long time, but it's very exaggerated this month. Though the poll puts IS in fifth place (and dropping), 9 of 13 respondants so far place IS as first or second in earnings this month. Hunh? What's up with that?

I am glad they go, I hate amateur photographers supplying free photos to magazines, and magazines taking advantage of that. ...
Photographers were paid $100 per published image. They were supposed to receive a free subscription as well, but I don't think JPG ever lived up to that part of the bargain. ... As for JPG magazine, I never read it and to be honest I used to get fed up of all the forum threads from people on microstock sites asking others to vote for their images, if I entered and won a contest I'd want to know my image won on merit not because I begged for votes.
Although there was indeed voting for images, I think that was more of a gimmick than anything else. It was the JPG editors who selected images for publication, not the masses of people voting for their friend's stuff.

Well they certainly aren't in my 'Big 6'. I've never had much success on BigStock - along with CRE and SV, I cannot even manage anything close to $1000 per year there.

If your images have commercial value there's usually very little lag between uploading and selling.
That being said, you chose the worst month of the year to begin uploading your stuff - demand is generally lowest this time of year. I ceased uploading after the first week of December, then resumed so my images will 'go live' in the first week of January. It's also important to upload images when they are in demand (e.g. you're better off uploading a shot of colorful trees in late summer or early fall than in winter).

I'm looking at the graphs to the right and noticing a lot of green, up-pointing arrows. Do those graphs not indicate rising sales? Maybe I am misreading the chart?
You are looking at the results of the voluntary monthly poll. I don't place much faith in it because it's overly complicated and too arbitrary. By 'complicated' I mean there are five categories for each site. By 'arbitrary' I mean that a score of '10' might mean $100 per month for one person and $2000 for another. Click on the 'More Poll Results' link at the bottom of the list or here to see what I mean. The RPI figures are probably a better reflection of earning potential, but there are problems with that poll, too.

Sorry to learn about your StockXpert woes, but this was a good month at StockXpert for me - my second best, in fact, with earnings and DLs double those of Dec 07. To answer your anticipated questions, epixx, I'm opted in to everything, and subs accounted for only 30% of my StockXpert Dec 08 earnings (64% of DLs).

Who you are is glaringly obvious and if this is your attempt at remaining incognito by continually drawing attention to yourself in every which way possible I'd really go back to the drawing board if I were you. And "IF" this is the same person who PM'd me yesterday in a state of abject terror I trust you'll understand why I haven't bothered replying. It's not a new ID you need mister it's a shrink
Sorry, you're mistaken.
I'm very sure of who you are, going_underground, but I'm at a loss as to what you said to get into trouble. I must have skipped that thread. Maybe it just goes to show that if you don't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all.

Yea I got a wonderful Christmas gift this year. Yesterday our landlords bank came to the door and told us we have 72 hours to move. Seems that for the last year I have been paying the rent but the landlady has failed to pay the mortage. So today for Christmas I am moving
Man, that sucks. The people at that bank definitely need a talking to ... who's in charge there, Henry Potter? (reference to the film 'It's a Wonderful Life') ... hope it all works out for you.

Tough choice: for me it's currently SS, but StockXpert typically beats them.

Sharply,
I didn't know you were a Vancouverite. I sit with the Cap Valley with a good view of Grouse. My wife is up doing the Grind tonight. I expect a popsicle home anytime soon.
Pete
Hey Zeus, I used to live in North Van (on the flank of Seymour), but had to relocate to South Vancouver for my son's school (in Ladner). He'll be finishing high school next year, and I can't wait to get back to the North Shore! I have a season's pass at Grouse this year and plan to get up there whenever it's not cloudbound. The Grind is closed for winter - I hope your wife isn't going up there regardless: it isn't safe!

... Disabled a few, and then this
This image has been rightfully reported as having bad keywords and an editor approved the needed corrections. At this time you can add more keywords only through the key-mentoring system.
shows up beside every single image in my portfolio. So, all of my keywords were ok till the moment I decided to disable them. Well, gimme break, the fair agency.
This happened to me a while ago too - I think it's a bug in their system. Send achilles a note about it and it'll be fixed soon enough.

So you've resumed uploading, perrush. Why not, huh - it's too cold to be cycling! (big huge grin)

None of the above until they start charging more for mine work and paying more. You can make more begging on a street corner.

Given the lowered demand for imagery in the coming weeks, are you adapting your uploading strategy to suit?

... Dreamstime has rejected a few (every one actually) of my images when I added a model release to it if the image had only an arm or hand in it, I'm confused about that I would think a model release even when not 100% necessary would still be good.
I've had a few of those as well - a rejection for "Model Release not required" doesn't make sense to me either. As far as sites that allow images that show people but without a MR is concerned, they all accept them even though oftentimes it's at the whim of the reviewer.

Hi Shank_Ali,
I am only replying to what was asked of me by Zeus, isn't this his site. ...
Nope, it's leaf's site - he's currently away on a travel adventure.

... it is the lack of consistency that this company provides. Once again thanks for the support.
Best, AVAVA
I agree 100% - a lot of the rejections I experience at IS are nonsensical. They'll accept image A and B from the same series, but reject C and D. They'll accept isolation A and background B, but will reject image C which is comprised solely of isolation A on background B. Like I said before, it can be maddening ...
