What did SS do now? It is just an awful awful Monday. Never seen it like this ...

DT does better for me than FT ... just saying

I just delete (disable) the image. If it hasn't been downloaded in 4 years I think it isn't working ...

It is nice they are finally doing something. Only 4 days until the end of the month and it is still shocking to compare this year's November sales with last year's November sales. OUCH.

I'm still not uploading anything new though. I think they are still working on these spammers and it will take a couple more months until it is a "safe" again...

Thanks everyone. Jo Ann, I think that is the case with me. They seem like a big UK company. I just don't feel right about sending a high res file without any payment.

General Stock Discussion / Buyer Wants me to Send High Res file
« on: November 18, 2016, 15:37 »
I'm opted out of extended licenses and a buyer contacted me about using one of my images for a book. I was happy to be contacted but then they wanted me to send a low resolution copy of it. I mentioned they can just use the watermark preview (which is high quality). Then they emailed today asking for the high resolution file. I said I can't send it before payment is made and they said Shutterstock gives customers high resolution images. She said they can't pay me before it is published.

It all seems very strange to me... Anyone ever had this happen?

I have so many awesome images I want to upload to SS but I know they will never be seen. I was wondering if I should submit them as Fotolia Exclusive and compare ...

I don't know where else to go but Alamy and they take time ...

SS broke my heart ... I'm not the same person anymore now ...

I'm not even uploading anymore because new images don't see the light of day...

Same here. Been doing this since 2007. NO NEW images are being sold on DT or SS ...

SpaceStockFootage what you are doing is working well for you. I don't think you have to keep defending your prices. You may never get answers to your questions. Everyone has a different technique and attitude about pricing, that is why I love Pond5. We all get to choose what works for us.

I don't sell anything at VH as they report their "share" of earning on my MISC 1099 so they don't have to pay taxes on it. Creative Market does this but they don't sell video...

If the exclusives will leave istock, there will be another flood of new, awesome images coming into SS ...

So, so many images ....

Everything you guys mentioned is very true. I have been doing stock since 2008.

But where do we go now? I feel very uneasy knowing that stocksy is my only hope ... What else is there? I wish there was a glimpse of light somewhere but I have decided to stop uploading new images, it does not good at all.

I am a "bottom feeder" according to you because 5 or so clips are priced below $25. I will be happy to report back to you the tremendous increase in the coming months...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Authentic (not)
« on: October 08, 2016, 22:02 »
My father called and asked how the (micro) business was going - I told him microstock wants more "real" images.

I get it. Customers are sick of the isolated, flat, generic files that are out there... You can spot a "stock" image in 1 second. Even as I am producing more "real" work, none of it gets downloaded. The pain is real. I'm just sitting around waiting for new images to be old ...

Pond5 / Re: Minimum prices at Pond5

Pond5 is like a department store - some items are very superior and SHOULD cost more (Calvin Klein perfume) and some are not-so-superior (Vanilla Fields) and are priced lower.

I do recognize when a video is so well done it deserves a $250 price. Cheers to the brilliant work. We are all working this microstock beast together ...

*, I need to get into the Wordpress theme market ...

I think quality over quantity matters. I started in late 2007 and only have 1540 images, but they do me well. I do stock photography because I truly love it. I don't think there is a formula that you can figure out.

I think a lot of people want to write books on how to do this microstock thing and succeed but there isn't an exact recipe for it.

It is a marathon and I'm getting stronger and better with every "mile" ... Good luck to all my runners in it for the long haul!

I'm a us citizen and last year when they counted "their cut" in my earnings, I deactivated my images. Why should we have to claim their income (share) on our tax return?

Watch out because Creative Market does this too ... Good luck!

That is why I am manually deactivating my images instead of emailing them to delete or deactivate.

If you get an error message when clicking the deactivation, just wait a second or two. I think the page needs to load again and buffer.

I'm losing about $100 a month from doing this but I have to protect the "value" of my images. Not sure how to make up the loss because new images at SS don't sell and sales are decreasing there.

I'm going to start looking at Macro and pray I get into Stocksy next year...
