I just wrote a series of articles that were published over the past few weeks specifically directed at people like you who are new to Alamy but who have been on the micros, and it includes examples of some of my moderate-sellers on there as well. You can find the articles here:
And thanks for the article links - I wasn't aware of Great Escape and will investigate further!
Thanks
steve
I clicked through Great Escape and you have to pay them to be a part of the operation. I stopped there. Sounds like another scam to send wannabes to micro while they make their profit off of the fee you pay them. Really classic "anyone can do it and make good money."

Depends on how they define "good news". A royalty cut for photographers might be good news for 123rf since they get a bigger share.
My guess is that they create a -0 tier, pay 80% and anyone who has sold at least one file gets put into that tier

it depends in which country you live. A am living in a low income country, it is worth for me. I dont want to miss it.
Right. This has been the case nearly every time we have a discussion about low-sale sites. For me, BigStock has gone down to Canstock levels. I made regularly about $80-100 a month there, and now it's $20 a month. It makes sense though. With SS buying them I think BigStock is really more of a test site and not really used to generate primary revenue. That is SS. I doubt there is much advertising for BigStock and their slow decline in sales will end up like Panthermedia and all of those other sites that generate nothing. I'm letting my images ride because I am on the bridge to nowhere with SS. But outside of that, I would not be adding content. I am opted out on the video side, too. So if you are in a high-cost of living country, expect to not make much at BigStock. They are in the low tier for me, not middle like to poll says. Other mileage may vary, of course. For low income countries, you can earn a few dollars there but I would consider that BigStock might ultimately close their doors sooner than later (just speculating here).

Just an Fyi that if you are in the USA and you contribute to both SS and Bigstock, your 1099 will be only one form downloaded from SS. It will have two incomes on the form but you do not download a separate form on BigStock.

There is no doubt that 123 is hurting. Sales have plummeted in a very short period of time. I'm now at level 2. This month so far I am at .28 cents. It's almost laughable now, for me, anyway. The cut is perhaps only to make up for what they lost in the Google search placement debacle where supposedly 123 lost positioning. Right around when that happened sales tanked. They continue to slide for me, a testament to my whooping 28 cents balance so far.

I have similar experiences. I think mine started a bit farther back that last Aug. I wasn't making huge money on DT but around $160 a month. Their drop was not over night like some sites like SS. It was gradual over a year or two. Now I am making about $50 a month there (pic only, no vid). They are a low tier for me, just above CanStockPhoto and about tied with 123. Sad.

Now that the boards are up (for me anyway), my sales are exactly the same as when the boards went down. I get sales every day there, so my guess is that the sales side wasn't working either.

I had a dozen or so, mainly of older stuff. I just deleted the emails. Obvious sham of some sort.

I use the Kessler http://store.kesslercrane.com/time-lapse-system-tls-starter-bundle.html nice price now too.
I have the 60 inch Kessler Cineslider. it's heavy and too big and heavy to travel with. I love it for easy local work out of my car, but I am looking for a travel Kessler now. Have you huffed your slider around via plane? They do have modular designs but they look flimsy to handle my Second Shooter. Interested in your opinion.
Nope haven't traveled with it, I think I'd need a crew to do that. If you were going to rent a car then I guess it would be doable though, there are hard cases for planes.
I do have the hard case but I am looking to hike into more remote areas with a lightweight system, probably modular. The modulars I have seen other use, though, don't do well in the breeze....they are too flimsy. Thanks for posting.

I know they have had repeated bugs in their stats reporting so hopefully this will fix it. Not holding my breath!
Ha. Yesterday I had .43 cents in my account.

Applaud James for posting, but all things are relative. 100k over one year is quite different than 100k over 10 years. I have made 100k over 10 years on one site, but not Alamy. And those photographers are perhaps the exception, not the rule. Thus, they are probably one-offs. I would love to see more histogram data to see how the distribution of contributor revenue looks.

The issue here is it's 60% of the minimum sale price after the third party has taken their cut... and they've not said how much that will be.
I thought it looked OK since the prices are not too low (compared to many other sites). But I hadn't thought about it being after the distributor taking an unspecified cut off the top - thanks for pointing that out.
This is only assumed. Their site clearly says floor pricing. They do not say further erosion through heavy discounting as space suggests. Otherwise, why even have a third party pricing scheme since the prices are the same as market. Just say that there will be discounting off the market pricing. They didnt do that. They created a new floor pricing for third party. Now, i am not in the know, so anything could happen. I basing my feedback on what their site currently says.

SB says there is minimum pricing. https://contribute.storyblocks.com/faq/pricing-commission I didn't see anything about "negotiated" pricing, not that it can't (won't happen). But as their current third party FAQ is written and presented, it looks like there are minimum $$ a customer will have to pay, unless I'm not reading the email right. They state: *This is the guaranteed price floor. Pricing is variable and may be higher based on the platform or the customer needs.

The question is can you opt in then opt back out if the numbers are crummy.

Worst month of the year ... 0,36 RPD ... yes ... a disaster ...
I I cycle between $600 to $300 a month. The swings are huge. Dec was a $300 month, down $150 from Nov.

They've dropped dramatically for me that past couple of years - really since they put in their RC system. I can't believe they're as high as they are in the poll.
I've also had hundreds of images mysteriously disappear from my portfolio with no explanation. Very few sales at all the past few months - if this keeps up I might drop a level and then will have to think about whether it is worth continuing with them.
Right, I didn't even think about that. I was making $200 a month there just year ago, then about $100 until just last month when BAM!! Sales dropped overnight to the $30 range. I suspect this is a 123-wide issue and everyone is likely to drop.

For the first time in 11 years I did not make payout at 123. I am set at $50 if that tells you anything. I have about 4500 assets there, with a mix of images and video. I was looking at my PayPal account and wondering why my 123 payment was late. Then it dawned on me that I might not have hit $50. Turns out I hit $36 last month and am at $27 for Jan so far. I think I read on here that they are having SEO challenges. Their performance is on par with Canstock, which is currently my lowest earning site.

You can thank Kelly Thompson for that. Remember, money doesn't make contributors happy.
