BME for me.
Either I'm misunderstanding the graphic, or you've marked in the wrong place. What you have marked in red is March 2021, or am I wrong or am I misunderstanding something?

My last 100 or so uploads on AS? Not a single sale.
That's right. It has become really difficult compared to before. My last 100 uploads to AS (i.e. in the last year and a half) have brought in only 155 downloads. Half of the downloads have come from 4 images. And most of the images have not generated a single download.

There are images for free and microstock images in a competition about downloads. I think nowadays its better to give images away for free. If you sell images at microstock there is some extra work with tax. The few sales don't justify this extra work.
I don't see any problem at all as far as taxes are concerned. The microstock income is quickly determined and simply added to the main income. It costs maybe an hour for a whole year - that's all. Compared to the time it takes to put a few images online (even for free) it's not worth mentioning.

It's still a good question and it made me curious.
Here is each month's median rank, for the past 4 years (higher position = better earnings). November was the best month for me (followed by Sept and Oct), while July was the worst (followed by December)

I could imagine that your pictures are suitable for annual calendars. That could be why you are doing so well in the last quarter of the year. With me, it's probably the industry that wants to present the new products in late spring.

For me, it's always March. However, this has nothing to do with Easter motifs. Why that is so, I do not know exactly.
But I suspect it's quite different for contributors who have a lot of Christmas themes or Halloween themes, for example.

I've been lurking in this forum for a while now, and it was very depressing lol. It seems like the microstock market is a sinking ship, and I was really serious about starting to upload some of my art, but I don't know anymore. Maybe people only post when they are unhappy and want to complain and successful people are silent lol. Can anyone tell some recent success story?
Yes, it is as you write: There used to be more money to be made. But to answer your question: Even if it's not as much for me as it used to be, there's still money coming in. I have hardly uploaded anything in the past two years, but it's still worth it. It's still an interesting extra income that I wouldn't want to miss. What I can't judge, however, is whether it's worth it for someone who starts today. Because I am more than 10 years in and am therefore certainly an advantaged situation.

Now I see the banner too, Firn. And also with me no information is deposited with the link. It remains to be seen what innovations are to be introduced there.

Today I briefly had a banner in my Shutterstock dashboard telling me that there would be some exciting changes ahead. There was also a link I was supposed to click on for more information, but it only lead to the contributor FAQ page and I couldn't spot anything new there. Now it's gone again. Anyone else seen it? What do you think it will be? I really hope it's just something as harmless as the redesign of the dashboard page.
I have not received such a message/banner, Firn. But I will pay attention to it.

On February 14, I received an email confirming that my account would be deleted within the next 45 days.
I can no longer log in. I have not received my money either. Also a message about the completed deletion of my account has not been received.
I am in the process of deleting my Alamy account, and although my public profile was removed around the 45 day mark, I can still log in to the contributor dashboard. I have had several sales show up since the deletion - but as everything is billed long after the use, that isn't out of line (for Alamy).
I got paid this month for the current cleared balance, but there are more sales that haven't cleared yet, so I'm assuming my contributor account will stay active until the final payment (whenever that happens).
If I were you, I'd write to Alamy and ask what is going on with your final sales and balance.
Thank you too, Jo Ann. Since I can't log in anymore, I guess the only way will be to e-mail Alamy - just as you advise. By the way, I also had 8 sales in a row to Beijing today at shutterstock. But they brought at least 7 times $1.65 and one time $16.50. In contrast to these 3 cent net sales to China at Alamy.

I would first go into image manager and delete the images. I am not sure what their policy is on whether you can delete only a certain amount of images but if you go to the image manager and select all from a batch, then click on "OPTIONAL" as opposed to "MANDATORY" there is a delete icon on the lower right. So that would verify image deletion without closing your account.
Thank you, Mantis! My problem is that my account is deleted. I can no longer log in. I have no access anymore.

Not bad: second-best March overall, behind March 2017.
That your pictures sell well, I am not surprised and is also known to me. They are very good. That you can still increase, triggers in me the question: Do you still upload regularly?

Shutterstock downloads minus 21.1% income minus 2.2%
I'd be happy with these numbers Shutterstock: dowload plus 5.4% income minus 37%
Adobe has been doing well though, my best earner this month, which hasn't happened in over 1,5 years. Not anywhere as good as Shutterstock or iStock during a good month, but since my Adobe income has been either stagnating or declining for months, I won't complain about a positive development, no matter how small.
I had some big SODs at shutterstock. Without them it would have been a disaster! But there seems to be a big decrease concerning ODs. I had 4 days in a row in march without a single OD! And only one day with 4 ODs.
I had no big sales on Shutterstock in this year so far. And, yes, I agree that the amount of ODs has decreased, for me actually drastically. I had 750 sales on Shutterstock in March and only 22 of these were ODs - Multiple as low as 0.15$.
Oh, Firn, I'm sorry for you! That sounds really bad!

March 2022 was significantly worse than March 2021.
AS downloads minus 21.3% income minus 15.1%
Shutterstock downloads minus 21.1% income minus 2.2%
In terms of income, shutterstock is 36% behind Adobe Stock in March 2022. In March 2021, the difference was 44.4%.
I don't know yet about istock. With the small agencies it is partly a minus of 50%.

No, SVH, no one is touchy here.
It's that you wrote that Sandeel made a mistake because he didn't keyword in English. And this statement is not correct for contributors who started at Fotolia. Many extremely successful German fotolians wrote exclusively with German keywords. They have - of course - also tried keywording in English several times. It worked. But it worked much worse than the German keywording.
How successful Sandeel was or is, I can not judge. But to simply accuse him/her of a mistake without knowing the history has been criticized by us. That's all we wanted to say.
As far as specific terms are concerned, such as Oktoberfest, Halloween, Christkindlsmarkt, Bratwurst, blue jeans and so on, you are of course right.
I'm a simple person. So you are a contributor signing up with an american company, you want to sell your photos worldwide. Right? You are given a choice to put your keywords in English or your native language. Which language would you choose? I would go for English. But you apparently do not. That's fine, I am very much pro-choice, but don't complain later that your keywords are not translated correctly.
What was your experience with fotolia? Did you use english keywords? Was that successful?
And where are you from and what do you offer?
I offer my photos to stock companies, which most of them are based in the United States and I tend to sell my photos world wide. What do you offer? And no, I was never never with fotolia but is that really important? Was fotolia German and had only a german market to begin with? In that case I retract my words but I don't think it was
First of all: I keyword everywhere in english. Only fotolia was different. I repeat myself. At that time the translation software was not very good. The most successful providers came from Germany, followed by Russia, Ukraine and - at a clear distance - the USA. Istock and shutterstock were particularly successful in the USA, and fotolia was king in the European market. Fotolia tried to take international market share from the other agencies, for example, through the Dollarphotoclub, but it didn't work. Only the takeover by Adobe changed that. As Jo Ann has already written, it was advisable (and also recommended) to use the local language for keywords at fotolia if the image material could be clearly assigned to one's own region. And that is exactly what Sandeel did at that time. Since you were not present at fotolia, you lack this knowledge. That is completely okay. But because you don't know how it was, your criticism was just not okay. It didn't matter where fotolia's corporate headquarters were located. It did matter where the money was to be made. And the market outside the USA played a very important role. I hope that it is now understandable. Today is today - there were other factors back then.

Thank you Jo Ann and Wilm. I was in fact doing very well in the German market and whenever I tried english keywords it didn't do well at all in the algorithm, because international buyers were more likely to be shown images from their own currency's area. That was changed with Adobe.
Back to the problem: thanks Mat, but right now it has completely changed again. The translation is working again, which is good, but the algorithm was obviously radically changed. For keywords to which I had several images on the first page, I now have none. I think they are tweaking things right now and hope it will become better than it was before.
Again, I can't speak to the algorithm here as I'm not aware of any changes, however I can say that if your content is region specific, such as travel, cuisine or tradition, you should add metadata in the local language assuming you are fluent. If the region is irrelevant to the content and you are fluent in English, then index in English and allow the translator to do its job. If however, you find that you need to use Google translate or are uncertain about your English fluency, you should always index in your primary language.
-Mat
Everybody seems to be a bit touchy over here However I noticed that Adobe does not always do a good job in translating your search terms. As, I assume most clients, would search therefore in the English language (to get a better result) I would say it's better to basically add English keywords and, if something is really specific, also add the native words. But maybe that is what you are saying as well but in a different way.
So for the German festival 'Oktoberfest', I would certainly add this word because if you would search under 'October feast' or 'October party' you get something totally different, namely Halloween.
But what do I know, other people seem to know better

The algorithm apparently changed a huge deal today, at least for me. My older files from the Fotolia times are keyworded in German, the newer ones in English. Now when I search for something, the translation doesn't work anymore. It means that my older, all times best sellers are not even considered by the search when the buyer uses an English keyword. This wans't the case until yesterday, because I happened to check something and it worked fine. Now even if I sort by downloads, any best seller with thousands of DLs is just not there. Can anybody run some tests and confirm this? Mat from Adobe, can you help please? I really hope something is temporarily wrong and this is not intentional. Thanks.
So you upload your photos on a American stocksite and you decide (because you are given the option to do so) to keyword in the German language. That was a fault to begin with. Always use English keywords and place native words if that would help sales in your own country or other ones (with their specific words).
Jo Ann is right - your statement is incorrect. In the past, Fotolia was very strongly focused on the Central European market. For contributors whose images were recognizably from the German-speaking area and thus also appealed very strongly to German-speaking customers, it was important to use German keywords because the translation software from English to German did not work very well. So if you had German cities or German architecture in your portfolio, for example, you were well advised to use German keywords. This is a historical fact, which was also very often discussed in the Fotolia forum at that time.

Shoot new world order, transhumanism, central banks, social credit systems, loss of personal property. More bioterrorism. Frankenfood made from soy, disappearance of beef. Plant-based food. Big agriculture.
Very good ideas!
Maybe also People carrying microchips under skin.
The microchip implants (and the nanobots that "slit the bloodstream from the inside"), which some people are convinced of, I never understood anyway. People are afraid of the total surveillance and control by Bill Gates. Before they go on demonstration, they have paid their drink with credit card or by electronic cash, so that everybody knows what they have bought. Then they got into their car, which transmits their entire movement profile to the manufacturer. In their pockets, they all have their latest-generation smartphone, with which they monitor their sleep, pulse and blood pressure, with which they share all their data with Mark Zuckerberg and make it available to him, through which they have their chats monitored, allow movement profiles, reveal all their habits, have conversations listened in on, etc. And which, as far as radiation is concerned, is certainly unhealthier than wearing a mask, which is supposedly so harmful to health. We live in strange times...

I just sent an e-mail to 123rf support asking if this is possibly a bug. 10 days in a row without a single download - that is completely impossible from my point of view!
If it stays like this, I will have a test purchase made.
Nothing happened so far. No answer. The bug still exists. No downloads since first day of March - impossible. But at least the payout came in today.

Stop thinking... This is really a great idea that moves humanity forward. Thank you for this great tip. We are on the brink of disaster. For all of humanity. Because a few idiots think they have to impose their ego. And so the rest of the people should not think about it. I like to repeat myself. The West is certainly not as great as it pretends to be - no question. For many years, for example, I have been annoyed by the question of why the rating agencies have so much power and why they apparently only exist in the USA. Which, in case of doubt, can decide the economic future of each state on the planet. That is not in order. Because that can lead to fierce abuse. I'm also not at all convinced that the West always informs its citizens correctly - there are lies in our countries, too. But in this current situation, one fact should be completely out of the question: Russia attacked Ukraine. Not the other way around. Russia wants war and a subjugated Ukraine. And there is no political, social or economic right to it!!! There is exclusively a personal interest of Putin, who - for whatever reasons - wants a place in the history books and a satisfaction of his vanity and his personal desire for power. Is that worth a third world war?
