Off Topic / Re: FREE BEER from iPAD
« on: March 25, 2015, 16:10 »
I need this iPAD! ;D

https://www.youtube.com/embed/6a8Eimr-fm0

Notice he never takes his hand off the spout- I bet he has a tube running behind his hand to pull this trick off...

you can kind of make out the black tubing if you freeze at 1:01

his right hand is always curledand fingers together, and he does everything with his left hand

still cool

New Sites - General / Re: Kozzi & Indivstock. Anyone ?
« on: March 25, 2015, 05:22 »
I see indivstock starts royalty at 38%

What kind of business cannot make a go of it at 50% when you are getting supplied the goods your selling?

Anyway 38% of no sales is still nothing

These bottom feeder agencies are no starters  not worth the effort to upload

The arms would just be another means of drawing attention of the driver, hence my viewpoint

It will not prevent stupidity or wrecklessness

PhotoDune / Re: Envato Photodune: what's the skinny?
« on: March 20, 2015, 19:17 »
Their sales are skinny

581
That is horrible

I think all railway crossings should have the barrier arms that come down, you never know the driver was distracted, but with the arms down he might have seen that and stopped

How long is the response time for canva to get back to you once you register?

I think last year Alamy sold 300,000 licences

300,000 from a collection of 55 M!

SS sells 4 licences EVERY SECOND!!

So SS sells more licences in 1 day then A sells all year
correct but you need a lot of licences to compete with one alamy licence. My rpd was around 19 dollars
Don't get me wrong
I would love Alamy to be successful, as the rpd is definitely better, but sales are far and few between, at least for me
It seems that the sales are generated more toward the Euro based togs perhaps because their content is more suited toward A clients
I am in North America so my images may not be in as much demand, hence the fewer sales

Edited to separate quote and my response

I guess we are seeing the reason why SS bought WebDam, they have big plans and strategically place themselves in the best position to reach those goals

Rinder may be one of the elite

But whoever is they will probably have a gag order put on them, at least through the initial phase, if not permanently.

This may be the way SS will "give a raise" to contributors who have reached the top tier with no further incentive til possibly now

The search is an interesting concept
The royalties are good

Regarding search , if for instance an image sells, does that qualify it to rank higher in the search?
And what about deleting images, is it possible to completely remove images from the database, and how quickly can it be done?
And what about licensing? Are there different licenses for different uses or is it one licence for all?
The only other concern is POD print on demand of it is allowed?

what about pixta and yay?

they are a waste of time - due to no sales
your better of spending time to collect returnable bottles :)

Envato / Re: Video for $5x33%=$1.65, are you kidding me ?
« on: July 12, 2014, 11:57 »
everytime we as contributers upload content, whatever it is, to sites that run a business model that is clearly not in the favor of its partners (which is what we really are, and should be considered as such) then we are taking away power from ourselves and the say we have in how, where and for how much our content can be used for.
the industry, as a whole,  is where it is today because we made it that way. And from a corporate point of view, the pressure to maintain and or increase profit margin will always come at the expense of us contributers. Until we learn to take action against these things, we are just perpetuating the spiral to the bottom.

ss stock seems to be at the high end - so cashing in for profit would not be unusual
directors and officers of a company can sell shares for any number of reasons - buying a cottage, boat, etc. so selling is not always a good indicater of where the company might be eading.

a better measure would be when insiders start BUYING shares - that is a much better indicator of something positive.

people sell for many different reasons - but there is only one reason to buy

594
Theres not a straightforward way to check that for any specific image, however if you go into the 'earnings summary' you will see various tabs such as '25 a day, el, etc' where you can click and there you will get the stats on every image in your portfolio. You just have to search for the particular image your interested in under each tab.

I got the e-mail that pretty well everyone else here did, however I have only put up 15 images to my gallery - I am leery w/o a watermark to put up any more

hopefully it will translate into some sales

heres my link - any feedback is welcome

the expense of doing trial run should lie with them - our job is to offfer our content - their job is to market, promote, and look after the transactions of sales.

every business has to 'invest' if they want to grow - thats the chance you take when you think the payoff will be worth it. if this is one of the most significant deals ever done, the potential payoff for dt will be enormous, so  they should bear the burden of the expenses of doing this trial run

it shouldn't be on the backs of the little people

Considering a still life, so with no mobile subjects.

When making long exposures the noise tends to increase.
When using higher ISO the noise tends to increase too.

The question: is it better to increase the exposure time or the ISO value?

concretely:
40 sec> 100 ISO
10 sec> 400 ISO
05 sec> 800 ISO

What will give the best result?
Or the results will be identical?

At a constant aperture, increasing the ISO from 100 to 400 will only halve the exposure time, not quarter it as you suggest above.

You can use either method and effectively negate any resulting noise by simply shrinking the image.

isnt going from iso 100 to 400 = 2 stops?  100 - 200 - 400
meaning the corresponding speed will also be 2 stops   = 40 sec - 20 sec- 10 seconds

598
its really a crapshoot these days
