I was looking for a different Internet provider and before they would show me their packages (Frontier) they wanted me to enter my social security number so they could do a credit check. Fk that.

This guy is a Facebook friend of mine. He was posting this from day one. Simply amazing what big corporations are becoming. I would NOT cave in for free content, either. Time, NewsWeek, none of them. Once one does it the snowball rolls and grows bigger and bigger until there is nothing left for those of us who rely on photography as a source of income.

I remember having to ask Envato for a report. I emailed their support and they gave me a sales report.
[email protected]
I ended up doing that, Ron. Simply amazing that we can't just get a clean 1099.

Does anyone know how to download a full report from Elements? I just got my 1099 but it is for the whole tamale of sales, not just what I earned. Now I have to go dissect everything to get my tax guy a realistic net income number. I have the CVS file from Photodune, just not from Elements and I cannot find any downloadable link nor do they split out anything on their earnings report in Elements.
Also if anyone in the USA has received a 1099 from Envants it looks like it is combined with NET Elements and GROSS Photodune. Very poor tax reporting structure.

5 photo sales in December for me
Steve
Same here. Have had 5 in Jan too and it's only the 13th. Their pattern of sales is like this though. I now expect a slow down for three months, then another spike.

Same here. I was at $200 a month, then I started seeing $130 and in the last couple of months I am making $30 a month. Something ugly is happening. Then again, which MS agency is drama free? Not many me thinks.

With GI and even IS, I am almost sure there are certain people in the Admin purposely working against contributors or some contributors. Whoever can forget that twatt Lobo at IS for example who constantly argued with every contributor under the sun, well that guy is now in the admin of Getty!! haha! dont say very much for the Getty quality-control of employees does it?
True, but why do you think they do that? "Money doesn't make contributors happy". There are a few remaining happy contributors.

You're licensing this as editorial but keep in mind that this type of shot most likely can and should be licensed as commercial.
Doubtful. Building design is often protected. There are two uniquely shaped structures in this shot. I think he did the right thing. He could submit it as commercial, see if it gets accepted then worry about it being deleted later for copyright violations.

Well put it this way, we will probably see more exclusives terminating their exclusivity. And Getty will wonder why.

Somebody wants attention.
I've moved on...
MS has dried up. Over saturated. Lots of good work...being sold for pennies.
the only thing i agree. this december is appalling despite hard work. next year will be even worse, with thousand of contributor from ukraine russia enjoying the business paying penny for producing images. if micro stock don't change and put a limit of upload or stop accepting contributor te only way to make money is yours.
There are still tons of new contributors joining to submit a bazillion images. So for the agencies this means they can continue to come up with new schemes that increase their profits and reduce contributor commissions and everything is wonderful. For them anyway. For the contributors living in places with lower cost of living who are still doing well it's only a matter of time before the drops hit them too.
Absolutely. I have been saying this for some time. Agencies will always have plenty of content even in the face of protests because of those new contributors. Thus the plans agencies come up with will most assuredly keep chipping away at royalties.

Yes but we have laws on the books today to manage monopolies and oligopolies.
Obviously these laws are not working, since as I mentioned above, 46% of Americans have only 1 cable provider. I'm one of them and I hate it. We need less red-tape, less restrictions, less permits, etc from local authorities to allow smaller operators to penetrate the market and compete with Comcast & Co. Regulations only help monopolies to remain monopolies, since only large companies can afford to pay an army of lawyers and lobbyists to deal with them. Moreover these lobbyists and lawyers are in fact the ones writing the laws for themselves. Removing net neutrality without removing all the bureaucracy needed to compete is only helping the big guys to thrive. This is a decision made by a former Verizon executive, and it proves my point. Verizon and Comcast of the world will have a blast, while smaller companies will be prevented from competing
If you believe that then lobby to get them fixed rather than pile on new government controls.
You misread me. I don't want a pile of new government controls. I want to see many unnecessary and bureaucratic OLD controls scrapped away in order to stimulate competition, instead of protecting monopolies.
Apologies sir.

Perhaps it would be better then to say: "the freer the market, the less likely monopolies are to survive"
Free market or not, the internet backbone is owned by a small number of big companies. There is not much new competitors can do about that, except rent access to the cables.
Yes but we have laws on the books today to manage monopolies and oligopolies. So the reality of net neutrality is merely an attempt by our government to taker over another huge element of our economy (like the failed healthcare called ACA) and control the free market. Other than sensible laws, the government should stay out of the economic engine business. It's just more government control. Think about it, you can make the SAME ARGUMENT about net neutrality for a lot of other industries. Companies have tiered packages all the time, every day. Should the government control them too?

You can solve everything by getting the top of the line iMac for a pinch over $10,000

Not sure if you are talking to me or rinderart, but for now I have taken my images offline from SS until they fix their code. If they don't, I will close my account. This problem isn't new, they have had plenty of time to deal with it. I am only at two sites now, SS being one. Free images being advertised (by people posting links even on this forum!) means cutting into the decent sales I have on the other site too. And yes, it's like playing whack-a-mole with thieves, but I will take action with my portfolios as I see fit. Sales have dropped drastically at SS (it is no wonder) so it's not like my taking action is hurting my sales any more than they have already been hurt. I don't really care whether you or anyone here approves of my business, it is my decision. Since I have started in micro in 2005, I have taken a lot of stands, but I never do it because I think I am going to cripple one of these million-dollar companies... I am a nobody to them. I do it for my own peace of mind.
Let me try a different way of my view. I don't see how cutting my income in half, just because someone might give away one of my images, is a better way to work and earn. I also don't see any direct effect from these free sites, anywhere. You and some others are saying, just because there's a threat that someone could steal a small image, you'll shut down your account? What about the people who steal from all the other agencies, will you close all of them?
Since you say you are only on two and hint that the other is nearly as good or better than SS, please tell me. I think that's what I need. I could use a second good agency as FT is 1/3rd of SS.
That's not a good point, you should speak your voice and take necessary actions whenever needed.
He just told you what his position is. It's not to cut off his nose to spite his face. Besides that, what would you recommend?

My thread here is not for getting more contributors. Finding buyers is more important. He is only for opinions and possible advice. On my web site you do not lose extended licenses. There is also a rights managed license option that can be chosen by the seller. It does not depend on me that prices on the market are falling, but they remain at a stable level. Analyzing the level of payments for sellers, I see that they are more advantageous than competitors. Only the level of the maximal subscription lags behind some competitors, but I'm working on it. I am thinking of introducing a percentage for sellers at 60 percent and differentiating this from the level of sales. It was between 40 and 60 percent? But I am not entirely sure how it will grow and generate more costs, it will be necessary to lower this percentage. It will not be nice. Maybe it's better to stay at this level?
Slippery slope. Getting buyers with no product won't work. And just to clear this up...if you don't already know, this is mainly a contributor forum. You are getting feedback from a contributor perspective. If you want to keep shouting that this thread is not for getting more contributors, perhaps you should find a buyer forum somewhere that will give you the answers you want to hear....or not.

Just got the termination notice, I don't know if I have a balance or not. I was already on IS when they pulled the switch and dropped us into Thinkstock. A payment would be nice but I don't think there's anything coming. I haven't written to them in years and don't have an account. I get the feeling that this was sent to everyone who ever had an account there?
Do you still have your StockXpert login? I kept mine and I have a balance each year. This year it was $150, last year $360. Might be worth looking into, but if you have a balance they will pay you anyway according to their email. I went ahead and requested payout anyway, through StockXpert as I do each year.

I don't see too many images there but when I do it is a fair 50% and since I can set my own prices it's worth it for me to support a fair trade site like P5.

Great month at Getty, Blend, Offset and SPL! but so and so in micro. Left Canstock and next will probably be FT! I havent got any more time to just keep uploading and uploading. Drains me of energy! Anyway wish you all a good December!
It really makes me wonder how somebody that affirms to supply images at Blend Getty and Offset is also supplying to Canstock ?? Doesn't make any sense at all.
Many years back I joined Canstock mainly because a friend who used to be here introduced me to Duncan! ( the owner) and we became sort of friends!....did that answer your question?
Did he buy the beers?

When they cut the royalty rate I pulled my files from marketplace (left them on 500px in case things changed - they haven't). When my free awesome membership (for participating a survey on watermarking) was up I just let it be the freebie as I didn't see any value in the memberships.
I wouldn't pay them anything unless you really like having a portfolio there (unless you've had tons of contacts via their directory listing, I would value that at all).
I know some people don't think alexa rankings have any value, but those for 500px have been down this year and those for marketplace have plummeted - for example last August, marketplace global/us was 34,148 / 47,659 and this month it's 161,234 / 181,179. By comparison SS is 292 / 381
Well. Money wont make 500px happy.
