Dreamstime.com / Re: level 0 is so sweet
« on: May 05, 2011, 03:11 »
sorry but thats sweet not DT level 0

I havent said that is fair or unfair, mainly I said that they keep on approving the same old stuff, when someone try something different (not talking about crappy pics with cats and dogs in the middle of them) those will be rejected once they keep on looking for the usual pictures that they know it will sell at least once or a little more, I do think they should be strict (as they are somedays) but perhaps looking into old pictures badly executed, not well isolated and so on

some are just trying to hard and pulling up new stuff, theres no need of it (and the more certain is getting it rejected unless it is on WHITE), again as we know stock is like having a "factory" and upload and upload without even thinking and sometimes enjoying it, again do average stuff it will get in :)

5978
sorry but I disagree with you disorderly.. perhaps you should open borg portfolios and look into them, all his pictures have a clear concept and are well executed, so I think that SS is now only interested in isolated objects and people pictures even if they arent on spot and I am obviously not talking about your work, I am just saying that agencies keep on wanting same pictures they have online and not excited about some conceptual work like borg does so well IMHO

I see reasons for some of my rejects but mainly almost everything enter these days there, I do shoot average stuff and average quality, as long as they are happy I am too :)

« on: May 04, 2011, 19:30 »
I have a D90 too, I dont see why to get the D7000 unless selling now the D90 a dont lose a few bucks.. why not waiting for the D800 that will be out in October?

I didn't even know they were coming out with the D800. I've still got my D200 and have been thinking of selling the D90. I've hardly used it and the reason being is I don't really like it. Have you had pretty good luck with the D90?

Luck? Arent we talking about Nikon? Love D90 (1 year almost with like 50k clicks perhaps) :)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS sales, whats your lowest?
« on: May 04, 2011, 17:36 »
The very big discounts require a call to sales people - they're not available from the web site.

Several people have written to support querying low royalties and so far (based on what I saw reported in the Help forum) contributor relations says these aren't a mistake. I think about 47 cents a credit is the lowest reported so far (my personal low as 48.something).

I'm assuming that when a big customer gets p@*#ed off about high prices they sell them a hugely discounted pile of credits to mollify them. Another way that the price hikes hurt contributors.

I see, thanks for sharing, this 0.07$ is a 0.4667$ credit

time for some MATH!

20k credits = 14.116,00 = 0.75 = 1.04$

this is the biggest plan, I am not getting why I got 0.07$ (6.7%) shouldnt be my huge 15% ? :)

when were the latest discounts?

another great IS move  ;D

I got only around 30$ there but I am in the same situation, stopped uploading after knowing that, a thing that no other agency does but they repeat they are doing the business properly, other agencies arent!

5989
SS used to be 24h, last batches more like 48h

FT 24h after submitted, 36h top

I never had a Canon but actually only have the D60 and from last year the D90.. I havent enjoyed the way it fits the hand (Canon), some might think the opposite of course, lately have been hearing good and bad related to Canon so I am quite confused, but in terms of quality build I really think that Nikon is better.. Canon are a too light which I didnt enjoy but in terms of lens and price Canon is quite good/cheaper

This weekend have seen a little of Zack Arias workshop at CJ studio and he put the 5D on the trash talking about the focus on low light and focus points and many things, I was thinking he was only with Nikon but he seems do work with all

General Stock Discussion / Re: April 2011 Stats
« on: May 02, 2011, 16:20 »
I have never noticed Agency files before last week, the prices are "insanely" high, why will the buyer go to those when there are tons of very good content and really similar of the same photographer at a very reasonable price comparing to Agency, I am not saying I am against that collection but it is weird if any of those got any sales (I have seen some with a few but might be placed "yesterday" after sales at other price)

5995
I just wish they would drop the categories.

+1

I dont see the problem on categories, you can even pick a few pictures and add the same category

So, buyers get 20% or more less prices in last year only because falling of Dollar...

1. Only NON US buyers. US buyers are most of the market...
2. 20% is quite a lot. in most contries the drop was a less steep.

Thats not my case, my buyers arent in the US and thanks god if they were I would have another big 10% cut! I have like 10% income from USA buyers, maybe less

Being on so many sites how would you know this ?
I sell only on IS and more then 50% of purchases are from the USA.  I know other sites have a stronger presentce in the european market, but I am sure that most of IS buyers come from the US.  The US is the biggest market in general for IP.

Not that at matters really, I don't really care from where my buyers are, a long as they keep on buying :)

Sorry but I if I say I know I guess I really know, NO? almost IS is the only agency not taking taxes from USA sales

thats a good one, so what shall we use? come on paypal is fine!!

The sky is falling. Didn't you read it in the paper this morning?  ;D Seriously though... it stinks when you're on the wrong side of currency fluctuations, but isn't that just part of doing global business? You've opened up all these markets with the internet that weren't available before. Whether you're getting paid in a strong dollar, weak dollar, euro; it's all money that wasn't available to you before.

RIGHT! :) but doesnt mean we need to get slammed at Paypal, at US currency and on agencies....!!
