It all started in 2004 one day while at work I noticed I could submit images and sell them online. I was working in Radiation Therapy at the time doing Cat Scan/PET and Therapy. Well in 2006 video opened up and I started shooting everything I could. I ran to BestBuy and bought a Canon HV10 for $1,000.00. I learned a lot and lots of people gave me great advice and help. Now lets jump forward to 2010, by now I had around 3500 clips online and was doing well. I had a two year old and another boy on the way. It was Good Friday and in walks my boss, my job was cut and I was walking out the door. Driving home I decided I wanted to give this a go full-time! Having worked in Radiation Therapy patients always gave me advice and it seemed to have a theme. Do what you want to NOW as life is short and spend time with the ones you love. Well I wanted to be with my boys as they grow-up so I decided to jump in with both feet. My wife was supportive but the rest of the family thought I had lost my mind leaving the medical field! I got many lectures but I just kept on shooting and learning. Now 4.5 years later I am still going strong. I make more then working in healthcare, I spend time with my boys and I love life! This did not happen on my own as I had many people help me and guide me along the way! I can truly say thanks to the community and people who have made my dreams possible! THANK-YOU. I just turned Diamond Footage Artist at iStock so only one level left to go I say ignore all the negative talk and find your groove! If I can do it so can you!

I see the same trend as James. It is going to take a lot of work to stay in microstock at this time! Now more then ever you need to up your skills and push your limits to survive. Soon there will be fewer and fewer artist as there will not be any money in it for them and people will not want to go through the hassle of getting releases. I project a slow rest of the year and maybe an uptick next year but not for all artist. I have taken on other projects that pay decent in order to offset the micro side. I still wouldn't change a thing in my life as I love what I do. You need business sense to survive now and if you lack that then it will be a rough ride. There will always be a need in the market for unique good quality content.

This is just showing buyers that making a good video takes a lot of cash when stock could be a much more affordable way. I don't know why people are hard on iStock video "pictures" I understand" but on the video side I earn a good return on every sale!

Slowest day of the month for me so far, go figure but I am sure others hit the lottery which is great and am still thrilled iStock did this.

I don't see one post stating you get 100% for one day would hack anyone off. You don't need to do more then that.

The 5D II and the camcorder are a good mix for video. I use the 5D II a lot for video but it is a lot harder to use. I have clips from my Panasonic HMC150 that sell all the time and I still use it as well. I also use FCPX and love it, I know others hate it but it works well for me. www.istockphoto.com/jjneff

I think the SUB's are a good idea to try and the pricing to compete with SS is good. I think different levels is good as even SS has this with OffSet. I am just feeling positive and happy, yes my medication has kicked in.

The camera is $1700.00 US which is a great price for 4k video and 96fps 1080 and decent stills.

The real question is, is it worth the price? I don't mind spending the money if the content is good enough. Does anyone have a link?

I am ingesting Getty SXSW video's and these people could care less about the artist! They only praise themselves as if they created the images. I have yet to hear a word about how they treat those photographers who create the content they rave about. I have heard several mentions on this new "Viewer" but no word on how to protect the copyright or how they will make money from it. Not impressed

I certainly agree with the .002 per 1000 views as far as Getty goes but could we do it different? It's early in the game, I bet we could.

But if you got 20cents per view of your image at SS my bet is you would be pretty rich by now. You see I just don't trust Getty with our best interest in mind. I do like the concept here so lets figure it out.

So Spotify pays way to little for it to be worth it. With all the brain power here and the indie Symbo Sites I bet we could hatch a play like this only much better. Help me think this through.
