I was surprised to read that a couple of the photographers interviewed said that they try to keep prices reasonable. That was the last thing that I thought i would see. Thanks for the link, it was an interesting read.

How is this coming? Does it look like we'll make it to 20 people?

being a contributor AS WELL as a buyer certainly is relevant and a conflict of interest How so? Should a buyer feel better about not finding what (s)he's looking for because (s)he's getting screwed on commissions?

I'm not really sure how you would go about selling an image if you are required to give credit to the artist whose work yours is derived from. CC works well with video productions (using music and stills) because you have credits rolled at the beginning or end where you can list the artist and the license.

Take a look at my portfolio and see if there is anything that you could use. I'm not sure if you consider me having "few downloads", but I do!

I would think that camera have to have a separate battery for date/time stuff (or it's stored on some sort of solid-state memory) otherwise we'd lose date/time when we changed batteries. Not sure though.

Are we allowed to blow our own horns here? Here's one of mine spotted by the (free) model on the front page of Yahoo. It's the chef eating soup.

I have a Tascam DR-07 audio recorder which has built-in mics as well as the option to plug other mics into it. It works great and is fairly inexpensive. If you've got time, you can get the Audio-Technica ATR6250 condenser mic which has a hot-shoe mount for less than $30 on ebay.

When you are viewing sales as a table, the date is for the most recent sale for each photo.

Sorry, this is off topic, but where do you see the reasons for the rejections? You can click on the rejected page which brings up the thumbnails of the rejected photos but I see no reasons anywhere? I think it would help me to know what not to send them since I am uploading my whole portfolio as I am sure everyone else is doing too.

At both FT and DT the prices for different images can vary wildly based on their levels systems (image based at DT, contributor based at FT). And at FT you have the additional effect of their Infinite Collection. I buy from Dreamstime BECAUSE of their tiered pricing. I can sort photos by number of downloads and find great level 1 images that aren't on every piece of advertising in the world already. So I get more unique imagery for a lower price.

Also keep in mind that when it comes to microstock, images that tend to sell well are either isolated on white or they are in their own environment. An example would be a plate of food would do well isolated on white or on a nice table with silverware, a linen napkin, etc. Microstock is indeed fiction. The images that sell the best are the perfectly red apple that you would never really find in the grocery store.
Another example is think about fast food photos. When you go into Burger King the whopper looks absolutely perfect, with water droplets on the slice of tomato and everything on the burger was strategically placed. The "perfect" photo makes you want to buy one. You know in reality though when you order it, it will not look like the picture. Hope this helps!
