I know, shooting at 2.8 or wider would solve a big part of the problem, but I would get only the model's eyes in sharp focus. I don't know about the others, but whenever I try that, more than half of my pictures is rejected due to "lack of focus".

Yes umbrellas give nice soft light, but how much light do I lose with umbrellas (or softboxes). My studio strobes are only 400 and 600ws, which is enough for my studio, but that church is MUCH bigger.

This week I had great news : the oldest city in Belgium gave me permission to shoot in one of their medieval churches in December. And with "medieval" I really mean medieval - it's 700 years old! This church has been deconsecrated lately (I had to use a dictionary for that word!), but the altar, confessional and pulpit are still there. Anyway, I want to do a shoot with models there, but since it is such a beautiful church, I want the church to be fully visible in the photos, as a well lit background. Wedding shooters would of course say : shoot wide open and cranck up your ISO, but we stock shooters know that is out of the question. I 'd get refusals for "out of focus" and "noise". So the only thing I can do is add lots of light. The church has good electricity, so I can bring my 5 Elinchrom strobes and 2 Quadras, I could even rent more stuff. My main problem is : how can I get the most light out of my studio strobes, into the (dark) arches and side chapels? And what light modifiers would be the best choice for such a great building? Any one with (lots of) experience in lighting larger spaces with very high ceilings?

DST has been down for me since March, with more than 30%. Only thing is : they sell pretty well during the weekends

Kiva does not do anything in India, I asked a few months ago. Not saying they don't charge interest of course.

13% down from May, but 9% up from June 2011, so I'm very happy with June. This 9% was thanks to FT, SS and 123rf, and - believe it or not - also thanks to IS (14% up since June 2012!). Dreamstime was the BIG disappointment of the month with 27% down since last June.

Bottomline 5% growth compared to May 2011. SS played even in downloads, but did a great job with OD's. Fotolia went down for the first time this year, so the rumors about emeralds being pushed down could be true.
DST was very disappointing these last 3 months, and strangely, IS has been going up in the same 3 months (still very bad sales at IS, but better dan March/April/May 2011).
Shut 34% Fotolia 20% Dream 14% I-stock 13% 123rf 6% (going up!) Canstock 3% rodeo 3% BigStock 2% Alamy 2% Depos 1% Cutcaster 1% GLO 0,4% (WME)

On one hand I still see my best sellers on page 1 when I do a search, on the other hand, May is the first month this year that I had -15% growth compared to last year (compared to an average of +10% growth in the first 4 months of 2012). Let's see what June brings, though as a good pessimist, I expect further decline.

I am hoping that some of you fellow contributors who express yourselves way more eloquently than I will help out with getting an opt out or having the Share button removed from our images. Done. (though I'm not pretending I can express myself more eloquently )

I haven't finished my list yet, but I'm certainly not even trying to make a complete list. Just long enough to make a point.

Now, this theory only holds if the watermarks are effective. There are a bunch of worthless getty watermarks that could be easily cropped out of those garden shots.
It also only works if it is watermarked. You assume most people search their Pinterest photos at stock agencies. If a Pinterest member is interested in - let's say - food recipes, he/she will not visit Dreamstime, but recipe sites. There he'll find our unwatermarked images, and whoever clicks on those images will never be redirected to a stock agency.

But we CAN do something against it. Just click on "copyright" (right hand menu) on the Pinterest website and you'll find the on-line form.
And when my house was burglarized, I should have spent my time hunting for the burglar and then filled out a form asking him to stop using the stuff of mine he stole.
haha, yeah right. But the difference is here (I think) that the "average burglar" knows very well he's doing something illegal ...

I partly agree. But half of the images I found did not come from microstock sites, but from websites who (hopefully legally) bought from microstock sites. For instance : one image of mine (a lavender nature shot) can be found 20 times on Pinterest, and it's linked to a company selling wedding stuff in lavender colors. No free publicity for my photos there, just free publicity for the wedding shop.

I found several images of mine on Pinterest. Usually I don't bother, but in this case, in view of the popularity of the site, I thought it might be an opportunity to "help" people realize that images just can't be used freely anytime anywhere.
I am sure every one of us can find a few of their images there. I found 8 in 15 minutes. Pinterest has an easy on-line form to report infringements. Why don't we all use that once or twice. Not to make Pinterest change it's policy (I'm not THAT optimistic!), but to make as many people as possible realize that we just don't accept free use of our images. This won't harm us - it won't solve the problem either - but we might contribute just a bit to people's "education" towards image use.

Yes, in the upper right area you can click on "currency converter", fill in the correct amounts and currencies (from British Pounds to Dollars for example), click "calculate", then "review exchange", and finally "Exchange currency". There's probably a faster way, but this one works for me.

Overall down 9% from March and 11% up from last April. (this is in dollars, euros was more favorable this month).
SS, 123rf, Fotolia and Canstock did really well, BME at Canstock and 123rf. Istock, GLO and DST were very bad. Istock 60% below BME, DST 20% below April 2011.

You are so correct but even those like France with 70 years, would fall into the general 1923 is free Generalization. I'm not sure I know someplace that is over 90 years copyright. Do you? We're at 89 right now for 1923. Point well taken, first published elsewhere, there could still be copyright protection.
I thought European laws say 70 or 75 years after the death of the artist, not after the creation of the piece of art. At least that's how it is in Belgium : 75 years after the death of the artist. So if the statue was created by a very young European artist in 1910, and he died in 1960 or so, copyright would only expire in 2035 ...

I checked, but I don't have the impression that Fotolia changed anything from 2 to 1. I must say "impression", because I have chosen my 2-credit-files based on number of downloads combined with "uniqueness", and I don't have a list of them (and what I feel as "unique" can change over time).

I just got the message from my photo dealer that my 5DIII has arrived, and can be collected as from tomorrow. Now the big question is : SHOULD I collect it on a Friday 13th? You can count on it that I trip over my own feet and drop it on the way out. Or it might have the Major Flaw! or worse, it might have 3 Major Flaws!

Anyka, Having others link to your site is another way to improve SEO standing. But, it should be links from "active, high-ranking" sites. Having a magazine and a race promoter link to mine did wonders.
They link to specific blog articles. A link from MSG might work?
Well I just did, didn't I ? On the other hand, with "only" 35 new website visitors per day (local people, so potential customers), I got more than enough work coming in. Two weeks ago, I got a phone call from a Google representative, trying to sell me "better placement". I said no thanks, because better placement would mean even more work, much more than my camera and I can handle. I'm a small business, and I prefer to stay small (though a big studio like Yuri's would be nice ).

Yes, I did install Google Analytics, which means I can see that Google Search is working well for my site - people find the site and they spend time on it, and I get bookings. But I don't see traffic on the blog page (or I'm doing something wrong and I don't know how to analyse the blog separately). I'll keep writing for a few months (if only to entertain my mother ). I think blogging on the same website is always useful, even if no one is reading, because adding text on a regular basis keeps a site high-up on Google. At least that's what I've been reading on several SEO sites.

My first website www.photowitch.net (a clikpic site) was meant to attract TFP models for stock photography. The site is in English, but all text about stock and modelling is in Dutch, as I don't expect overseas models to be interested. Since January I'm a fulltime photographer, adding portraiture and other assignments to my work, so I needed a "local" website, aimed at local customers. www.anyka.be is now on-line (a Zenfolio site) and working really well, as most customers find me through Google. A blog, yes, I have a blog (in Dutch), on the same anyka-site, but I think only my mother is reading it. I only post stories about shoots on it, with the best photos of these shoots, but with zero success. Oh well, it's only 6 weeks old.
