I have a similar strategy. I have been approved, but I am going to wait 3 months before I start to upload. + 1.
Excellent sales strategy.
OK, I need to explain better. A picture rejected won't sell at all. I encountered a number of peculiar rejects (some accepted by iStock) in a niche where I sell relatively well in general: scapes, places, landmarks, transport, real stuff. They showed a tendency to reject all that wasn't studio models overwhite in the beginning. I'd like to see if that is rather a collection choice, or an accident. For that, the reviewers need to be a bit mellowed first. They were spoiled in the begin by the merchandise of the top guns in the industry. They might have to lower their standards a bit for the regulars, or they will get stuck at 1M images. There is also a cam problem. They accepted nearly all my 5DII things but not my D200 or DSC things. Of course, there is a huge technical difference between those cams but those older shots are/were good enough for iStock. So I'd like to see first if they will become another Crestock: top quality for peanuts, - or become a little more relaxed like DP and grow quickly. Since for now, they don't have any USP over the 10M image sites. That's the strategy: be rejected early = no sales. Be accepted later = possible sales.

on the other side, my case is special but... After seeing your "portfolio" when it was exposed here, just before your long absence, I can only agree with your last statement.

Aye, the good old days ain't what they used to be My grandma and my grand-grandpa used to say that too. According to my grand-grandpa, things were much better during World War I, people had more fun. It all ended when Elvis Presley came on the radio all the time, instead of his dear Flemish peasant songs. The Beatles destroyed his ears. After that, civilization broke down.

Thanx, I will keep this in mind. I already wrote them an email (yahoo), containing approximately the same stuff, except for the "I swear" part. I read at several places that this clause is mandatory if you want to invoke the DMCA. Actually, you can find all on Google but I thought I would up some links and docs so nobody should waste time on reinventing the wheel.

So, if someone buys an unlimited plat for 1 day, which is $15, and downloads, lets say 100 images, he will pay them 15 cents each, and contributors will still earn 90 cents from every sale, which means you will immediately be at loss $75?? Yap, the business plan sucks. There is no USP any more in any new micro site with subs. Who would buy from a site under 2 million if there is already ShutterStock? There are some good USP's around, but as a dedicated follower of Sjlocke, I won't throw those for the Google mob here.

http://axehd.com/ tripled its site value and popularity in the past 3 months. They can be phased out easily since they're hosted in the US, although they (he?) operate from an Arab-speaking country. Another "passive income seeker" that took some shortcuts.

Thanks FD-amateur for the reply, what do you think about programs like logmein? At least the IP remains the same... Never heard of it. In a way I can understand PayPal for the multiple IP login. Security got much tighter everywhere, not to mention the very strict anti-money laundring laws, at least in the West. If logmein is a remote service that logs you in under another IP, they can intercept all your traffic. What if they are not secure? I just never log in to my Paypal east of Berlin any more. To end the story: I paid my landlord in the good old fashioned inter-bank way by SWIFT. With all these exotic payment services online, we often forget the "good old" banks.

I still think it should be fair. Nothing is fair in life and death. Some people die young, some old. All contributors were created equal, but some are more equal than others. It's like that in every business. Somebody that buys 10 generators in China will perhaps get 5$ of the price per unit and he will have to deal with a sales lady in a small back office and go by bus. Somebody that orders a full container with the monthly production of the plant will be fetched by limo, received by the bowing CEO, dined and wined, and he can virtually name his price. It's unfair! It's... like that.

Tired of having my Paypal account blocked when logging from abroad... Is moneybookers less a pain in the ass? They are worse, in my experience. I have been trying to pay my landlord in the Phils by moneybookers. He signed up with a full SWIFT bank account and all went well... But he didn't get the money on his bank account. He first had to do a verification by a trial withdrawal of 10$. When he wanted to do that, they asked a valid state photo ID to be sent by snail mail. Of course, nobody has state ID's in the Phils and snail mail gets stolen or lost. He should send it with a carrier for about 10$ fee. He then got blocked from Moneybookers so the money is nowhere. It's on his account but he is blocked out. That's how those creeps get rich.

If it were my site I'd give automatic feedback to each contributor regarding good performers. Why not a "Your Best Selling Images" column? Or automatic responses to a hot selling image: "Have more like this? This is your number 5 best selling image." DT has it, right on your profile front page. Just like IS.

There are a gazillion monitors available, at all different prices, and I can't decide. Does anyone have any suggestions? Patrick is the expert on this. I'l call him to the MSG.

Could there be any legal comeback on me personally if it is used in a non-editorial way? The use of an image is the responsibility of a buyer. You never enter into the play, unless you uploaded a forged MR or PR for commercial, or the image isn't yours.

I found one last week. Only 11 images on istock, none on the other sites. But these 11 images - all of the same photographer - were better than I would EVER be able to shoot, and his models were absolutely PERFECT. So I am humbly looking for other subjects Oh come on. You are one of the few great ones fusing art with stock/commercial. As Buddha said: "man's unhappiness lies in not wanting what he has and wanting what he hasn't. The the OP: find your niche and shoot what you like. You never can predict what buyers will like and if you look at the "populars", well, that niche is taken.

To properly answer this as an independent, you'd need Lookstat with Shutterstock.

Maybe approach one of the factories and offer your services? He wants "passive income" from other people's work. I think Karl Marx wrote a novel about it.

well that is not so far from the truth either. Serban mentioned that having a good download / image ratio also helps in the rankings but I have yet to put that video up. So deleting old non selling images will improve your images search ranking. That's another secret. Put the vid up soon!

OMG more referral spam He's not even posting about photography. No port links too. It's one of those clever parasites that roam around popular forums to defaecate their spamerrals. I told you so. He's blocked since the start. What's next? Selling Aigvra?

Just went thru the QC process on Alamy. Will be selectively moving things from SS, IS and DT if there is any indication that the type of images I have would do well there. I will be moving my one big event shot there immediately. Thanks for the suggestion. SS doesn't take my Editorial any more since it's not "newsworthy", although my top seller there is an older editorial. In general, editorial doesn't sell too well on micro. I'm on DT only for now with Editorial since I deleted it from 123RF. I was thinking of putting all my Editorial in the future on Alamy but their on-site blablabla essential, accessory and other check boxes give me a headache. Racephoto is brooding on something and I hope he replies soon the PM. - Any new stock site needs a USP or it goes down the drains. A great USP would be an Editorial-only midstock site (around 50$) with exclusive images in a certain niche - let's say motor, transportation, aviation.

What does seem amateur is the deadline of September 15th, when people on vacation wont know about this. They also haven't sent an email, lots of people wont know anything about this and that's really bad. Well DT put up a very big fat notice on the front page. I can't imagine any serious contributor not checking DT at least once per 3 days or so.
