General Stock Discussion / Re: Alert!! major flaws with new Canon M3!« on: April 07, 2012, 05:39 »
Well, as I already ordered and paid my mkIII, I initially did not like that news obviously. But then I took my 5D mk2 and did the test they suggested at DPR. It has the same "leak"! I've been using that mk2 for a long time without any problem, so I suppose I can stop panicking now.

just 1. And that's a lot, because I hardly talk here. I hate needing a dictionary every 3 sentences. I'd probably have a lot more ignorers if this forum was in Dutch.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Aha! So that's why my DT images stopped selling...« on: April 06, 2012, 00:28 »
Now this explains why my DST sales went down, but it doesn't explain why my Istock sales suddenly went up. It's been up for more than a week now. I almost thought that several DST customers had jumped over to Istock

General Stock Discussion / Re: Poll: Who has the most incompetent Inspectors / Inspection process?« on: April 04, 2012, 10:42 »
Funny. I just had a rejection at Istock :
1. Overfiltered 2. keywords rejected 3. Model release rejected (signed before the shoot date, which is IMHO something that is not forbidden) and then, the inspector added a "personal touch" : "nice image, please resubmit" ![]() As TheBlackRhino said : it's their loss. 631
General Stock Discussion / Re: March 2012 Earnings« on: April 01, 2012, 15:28 »
Excellent month, thanks to SS and 123rf. The other sites had about the same result as March last year, even Istock!!. The only real disappointment came from DST, with a loss of 10% compared to March11.
I did not reach a BME in dollars, but thanks to a better euro/dollar rate than my last BME, it was a BME in euros. 632

I think you should IMMEDIATELY report this to all agencies. That cat's contributor account should be terminated NOW! ![]() 633
Shutterstock.com / Re: How many times a day do you check your SS stats? :)« on: March 22, 2012, 16:00 »
3 times per day. First thing in the morning, lunchtime and "just before bed". I used to check every two hours, but thank God I got rid of that habit!

Yes, I got the same answer, but they're still not on-line (since December). Many of them are Spring and Easter images, so I suppose I can count these as lost ...

Yes, same problem here. First time in years I see a bug at Alamy.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Examples of blatant copycat stock-photo plagiarism« on: March 13, 2012, 16:43 »The real issue though is that there is overwhelming evidence to suggest that an accusation is enough to condemn someone and that is just not right. I wouldn't finger a pickpocket in Saudi even if he had robbed me because I know what would happen to him. 200% agree. If the punishment (by SS) is worse than the crime, I would not finger the thief either. 638
General Stock Discussion / Re: Examples of blatant copycat stock-photo plagiarism« on: March 13, 2012, 07:02 »- If I saw a fellow contributor's work being blatantly copied I would notify them, then let them deal with it. I agree that is the best way to act in those 2 situations. But what about situation 3 : "if you receive a PM of a contributor accusing you of copying"? Supposing of course you know for yourself you did NOT copy him/her, the image is earlier than yours, and you have to admit both photos are very alike. What's the best way to act in situation 3 ? You'll want to prevent the other person from contacting the stock library of course. (Or should I start a new topic for this?) 639
General Stock Discussion / Re: Examples of blatant copycat stock-photo plagiarism« on: March 13, 2012, 04:13 »They might think differently if it was their image that was copied. I am happy you agree that closing an account is too harsh - even if there is proof (through the keywords) that it was a copy. And no, I would not think otherwise if it was my image that was copied. My N2 bestseller at SS has been copied not once, but at least 7 times after me, and I have not contacted SS about it (or PM'd, or posted anything). I am not accusing or attacking you (or at least it was not my intention to), but we all know that SS never takes down 1 image in such cases, they usually shut down the account (as far as I know). If ever some one thinks I copied him or her, I hope to receive a PM. I'll immediately take down the image to show my good-will and THEN talk about it. I would do the same in cases of possible copyright infringement, or if by accident I left a logo or so in an image of mine. 640
General Stock Discussion / Re: Examples of blatant copycat stock-photo plagiarism« on: March 13, 2012, 01:59 »
Totally agree. Closing an account should be the LAST and not the first thing that SS does after an accusation. I am sorry, but I cannot agree with what Roxxstock did either. We all know how severely SS reacts to such things (even to first timers with 1 file copied), so he could have known what would happen after his post (sorry Roxxstock).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Examples of blatant copycat stock-photo plagiarism« on: March 10, 2012, 16:11 »
My number 2 bestseller at shutterstock has been copied (after me) at least 7 times, in exactly de same way, same background even. One of those 7 is MUCH better than mine (much cuter animal), but the "best match" favors mine, so mine still is the best-selling one.
I have never accused any one of copying my idea, simply because I have been reading about accounts being closed for such reasons instead of just suspending the image. I don't think I ever want to cause the closure of some one's account, ever. (which does not mean you can now all start copying my images, because I won't accuse you anyway ![]() 642
Canon / Re: Canon 5D Mark III: Official announcement« on: March 02, 2012, 12:48 »
We can say all we want about disappointing news, but I think right now this 5DmkIII might be the best camera below medium format, as far as image quality is concerned. I need a second camera as a backup, so I'll be buying this new 5DIII and keep my mkII as a backup. Even if Canon would come up with a 40mp camera half-way this year, I cannot believe these 40 million pixels on a same size sensor will provide equal image quality.

General Stock Discussion / Re: what's the most amount of money you would spend on a single shoot for microstock« on: February 29, 2012, 11:31 »
My record is 600 euros, and that was spent on clothing and props. After the shoot, I sold the most expensive costume on Ebay and got 150 euros back.

GLStock / GL stock (Graphicleftovers) uploading ?« on: February 27, 2012, 03:12 »
Since a few days, uploading is enabled again at GLO, so I started an ftp upload batch two days ago. 40 files got through without a problem, the rest got stuck. My daily upload limit appears to be 80, so that cannot be the problem. I did a second try today, and my ftp program (filezilla) told me "disk full". Sounds like a very severe problem for a stock library

General Stock Discussion / Re: Online Backup« on: February 22, 2012, 02:06 »
I tried on-line backup a few months ago and I calculated that it would take me more than 6 months for the initial backup, so I stopped. I already have 2 backups, 1 beside my pc, 1 in my safe (in the same house, so not fire-proof), so I added two more hard disks and store them alternatively in my bank safe (1 minute walking distance) - I switch them every two weeks now.
As I work with Mirrorfolder, the only thing I have to do is switch the hard disks, Mirrorfolder does the rest. It's not perfect, I know, because in case of fire or burglary I still loose 2 weeks work. 650
