You could always start your own forum and implement your own rules.  ;)

I have been coming here for 10+ years. I ignore the trolls, pontificators and blowhards, and use (and appreciate) the honest, intelligent information given by those who know their stuff. I am pretty sure everyone here knows the difference.

The great thing about any forum is that you don't have participate. You can go somewhere else or start your own if it isn't doing what you think it should. I think Leaf does a great job.

^^

yes, cathy,
whether or not this forum has gone down the hole , one has to credit leaf for doing a good job.
as for lack of moderation, i need to say that i did in fact ask leaf why he does not moderate enough.
his answer was that unless someone goes over the edge, and only when someone who is insulted
emails him, he would prefer not to moderate too much.

Alamy.com / Re: New to Alamy? Read this! :-)
« on: March 15, 2016, 11:54 »
I would like to give a try with Alamy, but I have 400+ files with "ZERO" sell since May 2015 untile now in Alamy, I do have same quantity with other agencies at sametime, and they all sell good, so now I have no idea what's going on with my file in Alamy?

should I keep uploading to Alamy and give it a try?

as you can see it still "Zero" Sell since May 2015

yes, i too like to hear if there is any explanation for this. as i mentioned before, i was with alamy from the inception and had a good number in port with 100% approval each upload. but after years of
-no views
-no dls (obviously due to above)
-not listed in list of photographers

i closed my a/c in frustration, a total wot.

i know it's a bit much to assume sales would be as good and regular as ss, or even is before bruce sold out. but even fotolia and dt as bad as they were still got us payout (eventually).
it's diificult for me to believe 48% for alamy in this case, based on my past record.

if however, this is due to a lot of changes at alamy, i like to know.
but again, without actual sales, i won't be lifting off my b*m for anything below ss.

I think one reason more experienced people stopped sharing is the bad reactions they got from trying to help. I've seen it happen over and over where somebody new would ask for advice and then would either argue the advice is wrong, insult people, or just show no appreciation. Who wants to continue helping when the response to your help is abuse? Nobody.

defintely.
i guess the problem with forum goes way back to caesar...
we all know what happened to him at the forum LOL

654
i am not sure. all i know is you can get an estate or something and the agency will continue to pay you. one of the blokes who kicked the bucket , the family just closed the accounts... which is a shame because they could still collect money . shame because the fella had a good payout each month.

That's sad, and it's not only about the payouts - his art was still in demand and could live for a very long time..

yes, it's sad, Lana!  the reason i got from the family who closed the accounts was that they did not feel like leaving his work with the agency. i guess they felt it was too much work to keep on checking or perharps grief made them want to find closure with the passing of a very loved one.

it's something  no one likes to discuss, even though many contributors are of that age group
that needs to discuss estate... and afaik agencies do allow accounts to be continued if the family submits an estate form . if not, i guess, the money piles up and the agency gets 100% indefinitely...
sort of like intestate, only it does not go to the government, it goes to ss, is, etc..

(update:   correction, last sentence... no , not ss, as they pay out automatically)

655
I see myself posting less and less on this forum over time. I've done this on a number of forums...where the your interest declines over time, so you don't visit anymore.

For this particular forum, it's lacking engagement in the sense that many people don't want to share ideas, strategy and technique. There is critique, advice for newbies and then there are debates, but it never gets too deep because contributors are holding back.

I used to visit and post on videogame forums often because we were able to share strategy and techniques for defeating enemies and discovery of secrets. So we keep going back to learn and share. There isn't that kind of engagement here. If you are not very successful, you share your frustrations. If you achieve success, you don't want to share too much. It's a strange dynamic for sure and it doesn't make for deep engagement.

actually, when the forum first took hold, we had a lot of good ppl willing to share knowledge...
(lisafx, jonathan, april, mitz, yuri,dolgachov,stacy,hatman,etc...) but they all disappeared as it became territorial and lots of character assassins.
not just the old experienced , but also the ones who  disappeared included alot of the very young ones, who used to be very active here...

i remember dolgachov and yuri coming in here to say so, that's why they too got tired of being harassed... to quote leo.

yes, it has come down to almost something to have your morning cup of coffee to read when you have nothing better to do.
shame really, because leaf did a good job of starting something good,
which ends up being something not so.

656
So reading this thread, three possibilities:

 • They got tired of being harassed by others,
 • They got tired of harassing others.

 • They died.
correct... but correction item#3
 • They died.
they got tired of being tired  ;D

657
They've gone from MSG to MTH. Microstock Retirement Home.

that would not be too bad either, as they could still have a cute nurse claim the payout for them  8)

658
death is certainly one of them; i know 3 passed on.

What happened to their ports? That's why some agencies doesn't have auto pay option.  ;)

i am not sure. all i know is you can get an estate or something and the agency will continue to pay you. one of the blokes who kicked the bucket , the family just closed the accounts... which is a shame because they could still collect money . shame because the fella had a good payout each month.

the other two, no one said anything. their children did not contact me to say anything. they just stopped writing.

i guess we have to kick the bucket to find out LMAO

659
There are three certainties in life. Death, taxes and microstockgroup defection :D

death is certainly one of them; i know 3 passed on.
as for the younger ones, i say they might still be here under a pseudonym,
after getting all the s-load of personal assasination or got chased off with a pitchfork , as someone
described it.

all in all, it is the personal ASSassination that drove many away from here

660
such a shame. used to be a great site. Have no Idea what happened. I wrote last week asking them to lower there payout amount to 50 instead of a 100. They said no way. well Pretty soon it's gonna be should I waste time uploading anymore?? Gonna be NO WAY.

Sad. Im out also. Almost 11 years down the drain.

for the way they have been going 10 bucks would be more like it, since ss has it down to 30.
ss i am sure has paid off 90% each month, while these guys are sitting on a lot of other ppl's money...
even at 10-90 dollars a piece

661
The current editorial content would compete with other contributors' submissions (assuming editorial reviewing has escaped the train wreck that is reviewing for other content), but the archive content (the 30 million) probably doesn't compete with SS contributors as much as Getty's archive editorial.

And I assume AP's own site continues to offer plans just as before?
http://www.apimages.com/

interesting. this being the 2nd editorial conglomeration with ss.
this going back to what (older comment i made) about those credential sports event photographers
i mentioned at a motor race event who sort of hinted they had some special arrangement
in editorials (no curation for editorials), although they were sort of hushhush to the
full details with ss.

is this a sign that ss is slowly moving out of commercial and into full editorials???
maybe it's time we get shooting editorials for ss 8)

662
As almost everything has dried up (for me) on DT in the last few months it's an easy call to make. Even if they "punish" those who opt out with lower search position,  the drop won't hurt anything like as much as it would have in the past

so true. even if they banned me, my loss in being with them earnings per year
is made up by a handful of days in ss. it has already come to be almost laughable ...
but as pixelbytes said before, why delete your dead port, it's already there.

663
lol,
step by step into the sewer, comatosetime!!!
history of what they did to bring them lower and lower down the right column...
-fb likes
-rejection of 2 or more similars
-persistent email to donate no sales in 3 years images
- ... oh well, you know the rest of it!!!

i suggest a name change next,.... to ....  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz microstock agency

Great, you are right about systematically procrastinating new uploads and keywording.
I only get motivated and push myself to do it after getting large sales ;)

red...   i think zerotalent says it all. it really doesn't need anything more than what i red out
... for many of the contributors who joined you from the inception but after 2,3,4 years without a sale
or even worse, single digit views, closed their accounts of lots of images
uploaded to you with closed to 90% , many 100% approvals.. of hi-res much larger than 8MPetc.

increase the percentage to the right of this page and you will see us coming back.
until then ...  it really does not matter with how much you give us, or even how troublesome the editing system.
the trouble is all moot if you only have the sales .

« on: March 06, 2016, 11:43 »
It's fascinating to watch that poll these days.  More fascinating still is the spectacular drop from 3rd to 6th place for DT in less than a year.  How does this happen?
DT have been working hard to lose contributors and buyers for years with their unfathomable similars rejections.  They had a good opportunity to be bigger than istock for non-exclusives but they ignored that.

so true... isn't it? serbian was c*cky too ,,,
that plus that "this is not the type of image we want" or something like that  to LCV.
looking at it today, they rejected almost 70% of it due to similars,
and the rest due to LCV.... taking only the HCV according to their curation
which came to almost one dl per month, if you're lucky

so, no, not the least surprising they are in 6th. wait for it, they will drop even below
into low earners like bigstock

Newbie Discussion / Re: Best camera for beginner?
« on: March 05, 2016, 15:15 »
Many agencies accept images from smartphones. Might be a good way to try stock without investing too much. iphone, a good samsung etc... with good light should be enough to get you going.

Or buy a used camera from friends who are upgrading. For photos even a four year old camera is more than enough.

read my thoughts, though i did not voiced it in my suggestion, since i am not a mob camera convert. in fact i don't even own a mob.
but yes, using the mob will actually put you in the trend want list. agencies do , crazy or not believe it, they seem to be steering this direction.
evidence is in all the local newspaper etc that have fired their photographers and are using mainly
free mob photos from the readers. cheapskate as usual, but you cannot deny the harsh reality.
..it's like the way of the dinosaur all over again..
from film to digital, from wedding pros to my cousins' cousin's a photographer and do weddings,..
to the utterly ridiculous movies with shaky camera becoming now the current rage  even up to
the totally amateurish ads being using by famous manufacturers etc .

grab the chance, it may not last, .. and when the time does come for pro cameras to be needed,
you will be an expert photographer by then, and would have saved enough money for a good pro
system.  if this trend of mob camera and amateurish bad photos does not end,
well, you did not waste any money on an investment you did not need.

"Dreamstime is the best curated image collection in the world, with more than 41 million online images, which are taken out of nearly 80 million submissions"

funny,...
that doesn't do anything about getting dls, though.

and with this new offer, i guess we would reach payout once every 2 years instead of once every 4 years,  8)

sort of the new comatosetime dreamstime REMtime

Yea, but where are you guys going to go next time you need an essay written?

LOL,... i am still clueless of what happened??? i guess that is the blessing of being
a computer-dummy...
maybe i was not important enough to get spammed.
or just living in a region where essay service do not traget ;D

It was some bot posting the same post with different titles every two minutes.

wow, thx 4 the info, sean, pixel,...
yes, it must have my sleepy time that i missed it .
amazing how some genius can know how to do that (sabotage)
and yet not use their knowledge to better use.

if i could understand even how to do as you say "a bot"...
i would do it in such a way to my advantage and not piss ppl off .

guess that's the difference between a hero and a madman

Newbie Discussion / Re: Best camera for beginner?
« on: March 03, 2016, 12:47 »
the best camera for a beginner is no different for the best camera for someone who is an advanced .

what is mean is, your learning will go very fast from clueless to advanced with a good camera that
allows you to learn the basics and then switch to all the priorities..
auto.. shutter priority.. aperture priority...etc

any new camera you buy in the semi-pro category should be perfect for you until you become an expert.
the thing to remember is get a body that does not need to be upgraded until you become an expert.

remember that you can buy the top of the line with all those bells and whistles which you won't use
anyway,  just to look like a pro ...
or you can buy something that is not the best-est and the biggest ,
so you can lay aside the money you wasted for lenses... and other things like studio lights, etc
as you progress.

i would say, get one of the lower mid-pro cameras of the past. find the one that was the
most popular till this day. something that is now reduced to about 50% of what is was new.
you can find many in the nikon, canon, pentax, olympus, etc like that.

remember, cameras are cheap... lenses are the thing that is expensive.
so you're better with a not so expensive body but an excellent lense which will cost more
as it is the lense that make the picture, not the camera.
the camera is just the brush...
the person behind the camera is the one that makes the picture great.
but if you have a top of the line camera and the cheapo lense.. it would do no better
than a mobile phone camera.
it's the same with playing a guitar. all the pedals and gadgets are garbage
if you cannot know how to play guitar.

iow, get a camera you can grow with, something you can keep for many years,
and one body that can use the best lenses without becoming redundant.

hope that helps.

no, seriously,..

you have already been met by 2 of our gate-keepers.

and now the sphinx asks 2 questions:

1) how many images of marijuana do you have right now???
2) why would i need 4 approved to join you when shutterstock only need 1/10 ???

i know it is difficult these days to start a new stock platform, given the years that we have been introduced to many variations of the stock messiah to redeem us from fotolia, istock, ss...

pls, before announcing your descend into earth to walk amongst us common human beings,
you must first register at the door , first office to the left registrar of stock messiahs

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT has died for me
« on: February 28, 2016, 10:53 »
I just put my request in to DT to drop me as an exclusive contributor.  I'm planning to fire the operation back up and start shooting new photo and video footage, but to make it even remotely possible to make money on it,  I'm going to have to join SS and IS and upload there as well.  In addition, going forward, I plan to do some shoots and retain the whole of those in my own personal library of images, which will not be made available to any of these agencies, and will be available only through direct licensing with me.  Still waiting on DT to come through with my request but it has only been since Thursday (Feb 25th).......

totally useless....another contributor? 1 million images week added...we need other contributor in ss and is? i hope sorry for you they stop adding contributor...is completely useless

Is it really? Are you out of your frigging mind?? Why don't you ask everyone to stop uploading to SS so you could have it all to yourself?

LMAO , so what if we all did. it won't make a difference to anyone's earnings. ..
anymore than after sean or yuri quit is or ss.

675
Dreamstime.com / Re: DT has died for me
« on: February 27, 2016, 11:23 »
Honestly I don't care. One less agency to upload to.

I still leave my port to make a payout every couple of years though.

If the same happened to FT or SS, then I'd be worried.

Welcome in my club.
 ;)

LMAO and me makes 3 !!!
as i said before, i make more with ss... (as bad as everyone of us make them sound to be here
every so often)... in one month than i make with comatosedreamstime in a couple of
years.
what more the PITA emails i still get every month saying "you have images with zero dl in 3 years
" or whatever crappola they send me is the biggest PITA.
if there is zero dl in 3 years for any images it is dreamstime problem not mine..
why ask me to give it away for free ???

back to ss, even if i have any images, which i don't, with 0 dl in 3 years, ss would never
be a PITA like that, because they do something about it, like that undiscovered or whatever
they call it.  they know it's not a call to do such an idiotic thing..."give away your work for free
since you got 0 dl in 3 years!!!! *for fark sake
